Lenora and Zachary Chapter 516
Chapter 516 A Grudge
Inside the car, the atmosphere was quiet and still.
Taking advantage of the brief pause at the red light, Zachary turned his head to glance at Lenora.
She leaned back against the chair, turning her gaze out the window, leaving him with a view of the back of her head.
From the moment she got in the car, she had maintained that posture.
She didn't utter a single word to him.
Zachary touched his nose.
As they were passing through the downtown food street, he cleared his throat and tentatively asked, "Do you want to grab some late-night snacks?" Lenora remained silent.
Zachary didn't ask any more questions.
The car pulled into the underground parking garage of Nova Residences.
Without uttering another word, Lenora unbuckled her seatbelt and tried to exit the car, but the door wouldn't budge. She turned her head and glanced at Zachary. Zachary leaned in and asked, "Nora, are you still upset?"
"Open the door. Let me out," Lenora said indifferently.
Zachary seemed to turn a deaf ear, closing in on her even more. His large hand gripped her chin, and he gave her a peck on her lips.
"You..." Lenora glared at him angrily, rubbing her lips a few times.
"If you're still upset, I'll keep kissing you."
Lenora's eyes widened in surprise.
The two of them locked eyes, caught in a stalemate.
Zachary leaned in, intending to kiss her once again.
Quickly leaning back, Lenora pressed herself against the car window, a blush of embarrassment on her face. "All right. I'm not mad anymore!" she declared.
Zachary raised an eyebrow, his gaze landing on her ears, which were flushed a deep red. He then flashed a half-smile.
He knew then she wasn't angry but was instead embarrassed.
Lenora glanced away, murmuring softly, "Open the door quickly. I need to go back."
"Let me take you up there."
Zachary unlocked the car, pushed the door open, and stepped out. He then walked around to the other side and pulled the car door open. His hand hovered over the top of the door, ready to prevent her from bumping her head. Upon reaching the entrance of the eighteenth floor, Lenora cast him a glance, saying, "All right. You can go now."
"Aren't you going to invite me in?" Zachary looked at her.
Lenora shook her head confidently. "Why should I stand on ceremony with you?"
After she had spoken, she promptly shut the door.
Zachary glanced at the door in front of him and couldn't help but let out a wry smile.
Just as he was about to turn to leave, the door before him swung open again.
Zachary looked at Lenora's face, taken aback for a moment. "Having second thoughts?"
"You're overthinking it. I just wanted to let you know that I'll be heading to Fairlake on a business trip in a few days."
Zachary paused, raising an eyebrow. "How long will you be there?"
"One week."
"Have Flynn and the others follow you."
Lenora hummed in acknowledgment and proceeded to close the door.
Zachary was rendered speechless.
After being discharged from the hospital, Harrietta had to return to kindergarten.
As soon as Harrietta arrived at school, her friends swarmed around her, curious about where she had been those past few days. Once they got their answers, they then expressed their concern about her health. The teacher took even greater care of her.noveldrama
After school, Harrietta lined up with the others and the teacher to the entrance. Her large eyes darted around as she looked for her driver. Yet, she inadvertently caught sight of a familiar face before she could locate the driver. That person's eyes were deep-set, with a soft blue hue that was captivating. His stature was tall and imposing, further emphasized by the immaculately tailored suit he wore.
It was the foreign old man whom she had seen in the mall the previous day.
Meanwhile, Lenora was in the midst of her dinner when she suddenly received a phone call.
The incoming call displayed Delilah's name.
After the call connected, Delilah's anxious voice rang out. "Ms. Wilkin, is Hattie with you?"
"No." Lenora felt a sudden jolt in her heart and put down her fork. "Has Hattie disappeared again?"
Delilah felt a growing sense of disappointment and urgency. "Yes. I'll immediately get in touch with Hattie's father and the police. I won't bother you any further. If Hattie comes to your place, please let me know!" "All right."
Without another word, Delilah immediately hung up the phone.
Lenora had lost her appetite, but considering the child in her belly, she forced herself to eat a little more.
After a few minutes, she called Zachary.
Zachary had already learned about the situation from Delilah and understood why she was calling. He reassured her, saying, "Don't worry. Stay at home and take care of yourself. I'll definitely find Hattie." "How did Hattie get lost?"
"She left on her own."
Lenora didn't know what to say in response. That little rascal!
Zachary said, "Don't worry. Hattie is a smart girl. She won't be in trouble. It might just be a misunderstanding."
"All right. Let me know when there's news," Lenora said.
If she were to go there, she wouldn't be of much help. Zachary was far more capable than her.
After finishing her meal, Lenora took
her laptop and started working in the living room. This position allowed her to keep an eye on the entrance. Her phone was placed next to her laptop, and she was ready to receive any incoming messages at a moment's notice.
She was worried about Harrietta, which affected her work efficiency. She would occasionally pick up her phone to check on things.
An hour had passed since Delilah had called her.
At that point, it seemed unlikely that Harrietta would appear at her doorstep again.
Lenora couldn't help but wonder where Harrietta would have gone to.
Another hour later, there was still no news.
Unable to contain herself any longer, Lenora called Zachary. As soon as the call connected, she asked anxiously, "Any sign of Hattie yet?"
"Nothing yet." The voice on the other
end of the line exuded a hint of fatigue. Zachary then comforted her by saying, "Don't worry. The police and my people are on it. Matthew has been informed as well. Hattie will definitely be all right."
"All right. I'll wait for your update," Lenora said before hanging up the phone.
Zachary was Harrietta's father, and presumably, nobody would be more concerned about Harrietta's whereabouts than him.
When Sophia returned from outside, she saw Lenora sitting in the living room. Out of curiosity, she asked what was wrong. Lenora replied truthfully.
Sophia plopped down on the couch and said, "I'll wait with you. Hopefully, everything's okay with Hattie."
Although she had developed a strong distaste for Isla at the moment, which inadvertently led to some resentment toward Harrietta, she still saw Harrietta as an innocent child. She didn't want anything bad to happen to her. "Have you had dinner?" Lenora casually asked.
"Yes."
It wasn't long before the ring of a phone echoed.
Without thinking, Lenora picked up her phone.
Glancing at the dark screen of her phone, she realized the ringing wasn't coming from her device.
Upon seeing that the call was from Zephyr, Sophia couldn't help but pout before answering it. "Hello?"
Zephyr uttered directly, "I've finished writing the invitations. There are no additional guests to include. They'll be sent out tomorrow."
After giving it some serious thought, Sophia made sure she hadn't overlooked anything. "Okay. Did you write everything yourself?" "Yes, and my hand is still aching from it."
"I told you it wasn't necessary, but you insisted. Who can you blame now?"
"I went to the wedding banquet hall this afternoon..."
The two of them were discussing the details of their wedding.
In the end, Sophia ran out of patience. She frowned and sighed before saying, "Weddings are such a hassle. You handle the rest..."
She even muttered under her breath, "It's not like it's a real wedding anyway..."
Zephyr was rendered speechless.
"Zephyr, where are you? Why do I hear chaos on your end?" Sophia casually asked.
"I'm at the square right now. I'm going home soon."
"Oh. Bye, then."
After hanging up the phone, Sophia stretched languidly, complaining to Lenora, "I have to wake up at three in the morning on the wedding day. Isn't that going to exhaust me?"
Lenora reassured her with a smile, "You only have to work hard for a day to get the company. Just hang in there."
In front of a square of a prestigious
five-star hotel, Zephyr ended the call and slipped his phone into his
pocket. He strode directly into the grand lobby of the hotel. After checking in at the front desk, he headed straight to the top floor.
He arrived in front of a certain presidential suite and gave the door a couple of knocks.
Half a minute later, the door was opened from the inside.
A young foreigner saw him and gestured for him to enter. In fluent Uprian, he said, "Caesare, your timing is perfect. Mr. Wilson is waiting for you inside. Please, come in."
Zephyr walked in, only to find Bjorn seated on the living room couch, right by the floor-to-ceiling window.
Harrietta was seated beside Bjorn.
Harrietta caught sight of him, blinked her eyes, and called out, "Uncle Zephyr."
