Chapter 423 Matthew’s Lie

The man who answered the phone glanced at Freya Kaufmann and said, “A local Kundin

woman.”

Matthew’s expression turned serious. “Let her take the call.”

Although the man was somewhat surprised, he still handed the phone to Freya and said, “Someone wants to talk to you!”

She took the phone through the protective net and placed it to her ear.

On the other end, Matthew’s voice sounded anxious as he spoke, “Freya?”

She felt a sense of relief upon hearing his familiar voice. “Matthew, are you in this town?”

There was heavy breathing on the other end of the phone. “I am! I brought a lot of people to find you. Stay where you are. I’ll be there soon!”

She smiled and hummed agreeably.

Then, she handed the phone back to the man in black, who now seemed more pleasing to her eyes. Plus, since Matthew had brought his men along, she felt a great deal safer now.

A speeding black car stopped next to her car in less than 10 minutes.

The car door swung open, and Matthew’s tall figure stepped out of the vehicle.

She looked at that familiar face and felt a warmth in her heart. Finally, she had a friend in Kundin.

So, she opened the car door and got out. “Matthew.”

He looked at her and walked up to her before reaching out to embrace her tightly.

She quickly tried to push him away. “Let go.”

Alas, he only held her tightly, making her feel uncomfortable.

“No, I won’t.” His voice was muffled, and it seemed as though he was crying. After a while, he sighed and murmured, “I finally found you.”

Freya felt a bit awkward. “Let go. It’s not appropriate for you to hug me like this, especially considering our relationship.”

He buried his face against her neck and took a deep breath before straightening. It was clear

that he had composed himself as his face showed his trademark gentle smile.

“Why is it inappropriate? Radley isn’t here. What are you afraid of?”

He had returned to his usual carefree and unruly demeanor.

She chuckled and retorted, “I called him. He’s on his way here. If my calculations are right, he’ll arrive in about an hour.”

Matthew’s eyes gleamed in grievance. “You remembered to call him but forgot to call me and your brother?”

Freya smiled beatifically. “I was worried I wouldn’t be able to escape. So, I wanted to make sure it was truly safe before informing my family in order to prevent causing unnecessary worry.”

As they spoke, Matthew took Freya to his car. Before they got in, she went to retrieve her stolen phone.

She had been talking to Radley prior to this. Unfortunately, the stolen phone was old. So, even though it was fully charged, there was a significant drain when they were on call.

Hence, the phone had run out of battery and automatically shut down.

“Let’s go to the capital,” she said to the driver. Radley was coming from the capital, and there was only one route to the capital. So, they would surely bump into one another on the way.

The driver glanced at Matthew and started the car only after receiving his silent agreement.

The convoy set off grandly.

Matthew kept asking about what happened after her disappearance on the way to the capital.

Freya told him everything, and his face darkened when he heard about Jamie controlling her with Icy Sea.

“What are you going to do now?” he asked.

Freya’s expression turned complicated. “I’ll go to the rehabilitation center in my country.”

In truth, she was also hesitant on what to do next. She knew what she was like when she had an episode.

Jamie was such a villain that she hated him even when she was sober. Yet, when she was suffering an episode, she had the impulse to beg him for mercy.

And this was just the beginning. Whenever she had an episode, Jamie would inject her with

Icy Sea. If things dragged on and she received no relief, she genuinely felt that she might actually go down on her knees to beg him with tears streaming down her face.

Her hand on her knee tightened at that thought.

Before, she only wanted to escape. Now, she had more to consider. If Radley and Braxton. saw that side of her, how heartbroken would they be?

She didn’t want to show her vulnerable and miserable side to Radley.

Matthew pursed his lips tightly and scrutinized Freya’s expression.

“See, you’re hesitating. Why don’t you return after you’ve been rehabilitated?”

She turned her head to look at him, clearly in a dilemma.

He continued, “I know some experts in this field that I met in Mutrya. They also run. rehabilitation centers, and I can guarantee that they’ll do their job right.”

Freya still found herself hesitating. “But I’m afraid that my brother will worry. Plus, I don’t know how my mother is doing now.”

Matthew smiled. “I’ll inform your brother and mother. Once they know you’re safe, they should feel relieved. Besides, you can still contact them even if you go abroad. Video calls will do.”

Freya pursed her lips. “I have to see Radley first. The distance between us is only about an hour’s drive. I just had an injection of Icy Sea when I left. So, I won’t have an episode so

soon.”

Matthew’s smile faded slightly. “You might not have the heart to leave after seeing him, and I don’t think he will let you go so easily.”

Freya fell silent, her eyebrows furrowed tightly. She had a white-knuckled grip on her knee, causing her fingertips to turn slightly pale.

She didn’t want Radley to see that side of her, but he had been looking for her for so long. It would be far too selfish of her to just walk away like that.

She weighed her options before turning to Matthew.

“Let’s meet up with Radley first. Then, we’ll head straight to the capital.”

Matthew’s eyes gleamed with an inexplicable emotion. “Are

you

sure?”

Freya’s throat was dry as she continued, “I’ll look for you after that. Please don’t let my mother and brother visit me until I’ve gotten rid of addiction.”

Matthew nodded. “Alright.”

The convoy continued their journey, and she saw lights ahead about half an hour later.

It was a convoy of vehicles speeding toward them.

Her heart was flooded with a wealth of emotion. Radley was here!

Her eyes welled up with tears as she quickly got out of the car. Meanwhile, the leading vehicle of the opposite convoy had also stopped. The car door swung open, and Radley’s tall figure emerged from inside, striding toward her in large steps.

She wasted no time rushing toward him.

“Radley,” she exclaimed, throwing herself into his arms like a bird returning to its nest.

The familiar scent of the man made her feel safe as she relaxed into his embrace. Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

Radley’s voice was hoarse as he spoke, “Frey, I’ve finally found you.”

Under the headlights, the two embraced while Matthew’s gaze grew increasingly melancholic before they turned ominous.

After a while, Freya wiped away her tears and smiled through her sorrow.

Radley had already pulled her close, asking, “Are you hurt anywhere?”

She shook her head. “I’m fine. There isn’t a scratch on me. Don’t worry.”

She surveyed their surroundings, “It’s too conspicuous for two convoys to stop here. Let’s head to Kundin’s capital and spend the night there. We can leave tomorrow.”

He nodded while holding her hand as they got into the car, refusing to let her go even for a second.

She leaned against his shoulder, gazing at the faint stubble on his chin. “You haven’t shaved?”

Radley’s eyes flickered as he replied, “I’ll shave once we get home.”

Freya’s call brought a glimmer of light into his gloomy life. How could he possibly be in the mood to shave when he was so desperate to finally meet her? In fact, he couldn’t bear to waste even a single

second just to reunite with her.
