Chapter 14 Hearing Loss
Shortly afterward, Vivian knocked and entered, “Mr. Hale, I’m sorry but no appointment can be made. They’re all making excuses for not coming, either on a business trip or having signed contracts with another company.”
“I see. You can leave now.”
Adriana waved and sent her away.
She should have known that no one in Waverly would ever go against the Alston family.
She just didn’t expect Peter to be this vile.
Hesitating again and again, she eventually picked up her phone to call Peter.
“Beep beep …” The call wasn’t answered until the fourth beep arrived, “Who’s speaking?”
Adriana took a deep breath to calm herself before speaking, “Peter, if you wanna be mad, be mad at me. Do you have any idea that there are hundreds of staff in my company who might lose their jobs?”
“I don’t think they are my problems to solve.” Then he hung up the phone.
Enraged by Peter’s attitude, Adriana kept calling him for several times, but no one answered.
All of a sudden, Adriana was like a cat on a hot tin roof.
Having just returned from abroad, she’s not familiar with the business, with few connections in the industry, so she had no one else to turn to other than Peter.
Within one day, Hale Cobb Law Firm was in complete chaos. There had been seven backbones of the company handing their notice, but Adriana didn’t response to them.
She was on the verge of collapse, under the pressure given by Peter.
In the end, she made a decision of going to Horizon Global herself.
However, she saw Peter’s car coming out the moment she arrived.
Without hesitation, Adriana decided to track him down.
She followed him all the way to a bar called Night Spot.NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
Just when she was about to go inside, the doormen stopped her.
“I’m sorry, but we are under Mr. Alston’s strict instructions that you are not allowed to come in.”
Standing in front of the bar, Adriana started to fidget.
Apparently Peter had already caught her.
While she was harassed and about to give up, someone behind her said, “Adri, why are you here?”
Adriana turned around, pleasantly surprised to see Alvin.
“Alvin! It’s you! What are you doing here?”
“Well, Peter invited me.”
“Really? Thank god.” Adriana congratulated herself on her luck, then she drew him aside and asked quietly, “Alvin, could you please help me get into the bar? They won’t let me in.”
“What happened?” Alvin was rather confused.
“It’s a long story. I’ll explain to you some other day. Please, I really need to have a talk with Peter.”
She implored in an aggrieved tone of voice, with her hands clasped in front of her chest.
“Sure thing.”
Alvin smiled and reached out to tousle her hair, “Come, I’ll get you in.”
He raised his arm, beckoning Adriana to hold it.
Adriana soon cottoned on, immediately took his arm and said, “Hurray!”
When the two of them walked towards to Night Spot, the doormen tried to block her way again, but Alvin scolded them, “Anything wrong? She’s my girlfriend.”
“Your girl-girlfriend, Mr. Grant? Oh, come-come in. This way.” The doormen had to let her in, for fear of being reproached by Alvin.
Having managed to get in, Adriana made a V sign towards him.
As they walked into the bar, deafening music began to permeate into their ears. Under the blaze of light from the neons, there were hotties performing pole dance while young men and women filled the dancefloor with wild dance.
The smell of nicotine and alcohol was a bit pungent.
Adriana put on a frown, and went to Private Room 606 with Alvin, where there were two robust bodyguards standing in front of the door. They were both expressionless, deterring any passers-by.
Adriana felt glad that Alvin was here, or she couldn’t stand a chance of meeting Peter today.
“Is Peter in?” Alvin asked the bodyguard.
“Yes, Mr. Grant. Come in, please.” The bodyguard seemed to be quite familiar with Alvin, so they walked straight into the room.
The private room was pretty large, where there were dozens of people hanging out, and two sexy girls in skimpy dresses dancing on the platform. They were all having a blast.
When the two of them entered, all eyes fell on them, and the singing, dancing and talking all came to a stop.
Peter was sitting in the middle of the sofa, with a woman in a tight V-neck dress putting her arms around him, whose fingers were gently caressing his chest flirtatiously.
Adriana was brought up short by the scene, then frowned at once.
It dispirited her even more that he was hanging out with these bargirls.
Glaring at Peter, she didn’t realize that she was also holding Alvin tighter, “I should have known that you’re a womanizer. You don’t deserve Theresa at all.” She had raised her voice, but the music was too loud.
“What a pleasant surprise, Mr. Grant.”
“Your new girlfriend? Kinda hot.”
“Girl, what’s your name? How did you meet Mr. Grant?”
“Come and sit with us, girl!”
…
Several men in the room started to hit on her.
Adriana released her grip on Alvin, walked to the middle of the room and grabbed the remote to turn off the music. Then she stood in front of Peter, “What do you think you are doing, Peter Alston?”
The bastard got her into this mess, and now he’s living it up.
Peter enjoyed quite a reputation in Waverly, while no one dare to defy him. Now that a girl from out of nowhere jumped out to lecture him, everyone stood in silence to see how it might go.
“Tut-tut, what a crazy bitch. Any idea who Mr. Alston is? You are risking your neck, idiot.”
The bargirl in Peter’s arms was resting her head on his shoulder intimately. She looked glamorous, but her words were vulgar.
Peter was still lying in the leather sofa lazily, with his legs crossed and a glass of brandy in his hand. He stared at Adriana with interest and contempt.
“Ma’am, are you suffering from hearing loss? How am I supposed to call out his name if I don’t even know who he is?” Adriana couldn’t hold back her anger and said.
Irritated by her words, the bargirl looked gloomily and sputtered, “How dare you …”
“Do you have the slightest idea that he’s got a fiancée and a child?” Adriana looked at Peter with a scowl, “I thought you just had a bad temper, now I know you’re so indiscreet about your private life. God knows what Theresa sees in you!”
What an asshole!
