Charmaine's heartbeat quickened.

Taking deep breaths to steady herself, she couldn't stop the question from slipping out once more. "So, you saw them picking on me and stepped in on purpose?"
Emyr found her slight retreat amusing and ruffled her hair. "Yes"
The rhythmic pounding of her heart filled her ears. Charmaine wasn't sure why she felt so out of sorts today.
Was it because of his sudden appearance? Or the way he naturally shielded her?
Something about the entire situation felt different-not just her reactions, but Emyr's as well.
His repeated, straightforward admissions of favoring her, the unguarded warmth in his gaze... there was an unspoken depth to it all.
Before she had time to process her thoughts, the convoy pulled into the parking lot at the mountaintop Hearing Celeste's lively chatter outside, Charmaine snapped back to reality.
"We're here. I-I'll get out first!"
Without waiting for a response, she quickly pushed open the door and hopped
out.
The little fox in his arms darted away, but Emyr didn't seem to mind.
Watching her hurried reaction, he mused that sometimes, Kane's so-called terrible ideas actually worked.
The wind at the peak was strong. After a few moments of letting it cool her flushed face, Charmaine finally felt more composed.
It had been a long time since anyone had treated her with such care, and the warmth of it left her feeling a little shy.
Besides, someone as remarkable as Emyr being this close to her ... well, there wasn't anyone else quite like
him.
"I shouldn't overthink it."
"Huh? What are you mumbling about?"
Celeste approached just in time to catch her murmuring.
Charmaine exhaled deeply, regaining her composure as she accepted the hot coffee Celeste handed her. "Nothing."
You two are sweeter than a first love! Charmyr is the best!" Celeste grinned mischievously.
Charmaine nearly choked on her coffee. "Charmyr?"
"Yeah! It's a mashup of your name and Mr. Emyr's. Isn't it great?”
She gave Celeste a long, unimpressed stare. "Shipping anyone only leads to disappointment."

Chapter 292 Charmyr
* Panris
Keystone Peak was a well-known camping destination near the city. Even though it wasn't a holiday, quite a few visitors had come for the trip.
Most of them had opted to hike due to the weather, and since the scenic area staff hadn't had time to clear the roads, those who drove up ended up stuck halfway.
By the time Leah and the others finally arrived, nearly two hours hard passed.
The class had covered the expenses for the camping trip. After Charmaine and Celeste confirmed their registration with the scenic area staff, they had already pitched their tents in the assigned area and started preparing food.
While they enjoyed their downtime, the rest of the group, exhausted from the long journey, arrived looking completely worn out. Too drained to even set up their tents, they simply collapsed onto the wooden planks.
Even Leah and Veronica, who had opted for a sports car ride and tried to do a good deed to maintain their dignity, weren't in much better shape.
"This is disgusting. My shoes are covered in mud," Leah grumbled, unable to tolerate the mess. "Veronica. let's go clean up."
Veronica glanced in Emyr's direction and hesitated. "I'm exhausted. Why don't you go ahead first?"
Seeing through Veronica's real motive, Leah scoffed before turning away.
Once Leah left, Veronica approached Emyr, only to be blocked by his bodyguards
a few steps from the secured area.
On the verge of tears, she called out, "Mr. Emyr, it's me."
Emyr shot her a sideways glances.
Tears immediately spilled down her cheeks as she spoke in a wounded tone.
"I waited there for over two hours, carried the luggage, and got completely filthy. I've never gone through anything like this before."
Emyr's expression hardened, his gaze turning sharp as he remarked, "Compared
to what you've suffered before, this is nothing at all."
His words caught Veronica off guard. She had only been focused on gaining
sympathy. "I-I don't remember. I want to, but I just can't."
She regretfully gripped her head in frustration. "I'm so useless!"
Without another glance at her, Emyr turned away, showing no sympathy or
concern.
His cold indifference stung, leaving Veronica seething with both anger and disappointment.noveldrama
