My Mute Wife

Chapter 66 Plotting an Escape

It was past midnight, but the bar street of Lan Kwai Road in J City was lit up.

“Why do you want to see me in this late hour?”

Tina played with the wine glass on the table, her sharp nails sliding over the glass.

Edith said, “You asked me to entrust someone to find out where Victor is now for you, and I found out two days ago.”

Tina blushed and said sharply, “Why didn’t you tell me so earlier? Where is he now?”

“A factory in the northern part of F Continent, which should be the farthest overseas factory for your Howard Group, and your father sent him over there to work as a worker.”

“Give me the exact address.”

“I’m afraid it’s useless to give it to you.” Edith frowned with a complicated expression.

“What’s wrong?”

Edith flipped out the photo album on her phone and pushed it to Tina.

Under the lights of the bar, the phone screen was illuminated sharply, and it was a death certificate from an overseas identification agency, with Victor’s name written on it.

Tina’s pupils contracted violently and she grabbed the phone incredulously.

“Two days ago, the people I entrusted with brought back news that when Victor was on his way to pick up raw materials, he encountered local stragglers who robbed him at gunpoint, and by the time he was found, he was dead.”

“Impossible,” Tina’s lips moved, her face creepily white.

She immediately dialed a number, her voice extremely cold, “Harry, where is Victor now?”

“I don’t want to hear that, tell me where he is! Or I’ll make you get the hell out of the Howard’s Group tomorrow!”

Not knowing what was said on the other end of the phone, Tina’s eyes darkened little by little.

With a loud bang, she smashed the phone out in anger, and Edith screamed in shock, covering her mouth and looking at her in horror.

And the next second, Tina’s tears flowed down.

For a long time, Edith regained her composure and said comfortingly, “I am sorry, it is my fault, I should not have invited you to my father’s birthday banquet, maybe then you would not have been seen by Lexie, and Victor …”

Tina’s eyes were red, “Lexie …”

Glass after glass of whiskey gulped down as she pronounced the name over and over again.

Blood for blood, and she wanted the person who killed Victor to bury him.

The early morning sun shone through the cracks in the curtains.

Lexie woke up from her dream, and as soon as she opened her eyes, she saw the intricate pattern on the ceiling, and froze for a while before hearing the sound of water coming from the bathroom and she gradually woke up.

A moment later, the bathroom door opened from the inside and Lexie scrambled to close her eyes and rolled over onto her back.

The soft footsteps came closer and closer, finally the man took a seat by the bed.

“Tired from last night?”

As a few simple words fell, Lexie’s eyelids jumped, her face turned red, she opened her eyes stiffly, embraced the quilt and sat up cautiously.

Alan said indifferently, “I thought you could pretend for long.”Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.

His hair hadn’t been blown dry, and droplets of water flowed down, leaving trails on his chest.

Lexie didn’t dare to look directly at the man at all at the thought of last night.

Alan put on his shirt and gave her a look, sneering, “You can’t even pretend to sleep, what is Peter’s point of sending you here?”

With those words, he got up to leave, but was pulled by a hand that reached out from under the quilt.

Turning back to see the red-faced little woman, most of her face buried under the covers, her eyes were watery.

Alan frowned and said condescendingly, “You want me to stay with you?”

Lexie shook her head in panic, her slender fingers pointing at his shirt with care.

[Your shirt’s buttoned up wrong.]

Alan was stunned, and lowering his head he really saw two buttons tied in the wrong place, and the hem of his shirt was not tidy.

After a moment, a voice sounded in the room, “You do it.”

Lexie froze for a moment, and under the man’s oppressive gaze, she stiffly stretched out her bare arms, one hand clutching the quilt for fear of dropping it, the other reluctantly going to help him unbutton it.

Alan looked at her bare shoulder in the air, his dark eyes gradually contracting.

“Are you seducing me?”

Lexie’s hands paused and she shook her head.

[No.]

“No?”

Following Alan’s gaze, Lexie lowered her gaze and clutched the quilt with a startled cry, her face instantly blushed and buried in the quilt.

For some reason, seeing Lexie’s embarrassed look, Alan was in an inexplicably happy mood.

He re-buttoned and got up to leave.

“It’s early, get some more sleep if you’re tired.”

His low voice was magnetic, mixed with ease that echoed through the room for a long time.

By the time Lexie came back to her senses, Alan was already gone.

This seemed like the first time this man had spoken to her in such a calm tone, was he concerned for her?

Lexie was stunned.

The sound of a vibrating phone came from the bed.

Seeing the words ‘Myles’ pop up on the text message, Lexie snapped back to her sense.

In the Library, Myles pushed the cart and walked through the bookshelves, helping Lexie place the books high up, “Better on your feet?”

Lexie nodded, [Yes.]

“How’s the stuff packed?”

[There’s nothing to pack, it’s almost ready to go, I’m just worried about Grandma.]

Grandma’s health was not quite stable enough to handle the long distance.

Myles said, “I’ll take care of this, I have a friend’s private hospital that should be able to help, when the time comes, just arrange for Grandma to go over to the hospital in advance, just conceal the information or whatever.”

Lexie revealed a hesitant look, [I’m afraid it’s not quite possible, if you arrange for Grandma to live there, the chances of concealing it are very small, and Alan will easily follow that to check you out, and then you will be implicated.]

“I’m okay with that.”

[No.] Lexie shook her head with certainty, directly rejecting Myles’s proposal.

She could accept a small favor like Myles requiring information for her, but really having him to get involved, she didn’t dare to take such a big risk.

Myles knew he couldn’t convince her, “But according to what you said, the Howard Group is so powerful that, no matter where you run to, he can find you, and if you take Grandma with you, there’s no such possibility to for you run away. Alan sooner or later will suffer retribution.”

Listening to Myles’s indignant cursing of Alan, Lexie suddenly frowned.

She didn’t actually fully agree with Myles’s assessment of Alan, that man was scary, but he did help her out a few times.

“Lexie, what are you thinking about?”

[There is a way.] Lexie returned to her senses.

“What way?”

[He has said he only trusts the dead except those he can control.]

Myles was stunned.

[As long as I’m dead, he won’t come after me or make things difficult for Grandma.]

Lexie shoved the book in her hand onto the shelf, her gaze calm but sure.
