Chapter 98
Chapter 98
Kanan helped me calm down. He waited until the brush of cool night wind took away the flush from my
teary eyes and cheeks, and then he led me back to the ballroom. From NôvelDrama.Org.
"Come on. I have to introduce you to a few important people." He grinned as he pulled my hand
towards a group of men, drinking champagne and talking.
"Prince Kanan! So good to see you!" One of the men called out and reached his hand forward.
Kanan shook his hand with a courteous smile. "Mr. Parson, I'm glad that we can finally meet. It's been
a while."
Mr. Parson looked like a handsome, brown-haired, and brown-eyed man in his forties, wearing a black,
fitted tuxedo. He had an aura of prestige and elegance around him. His movements and gestures
resembled those I had seen in old British historical movies. The man nodded politely, as if he was
trying to hide the fact that he was carefully scanning my features while doing that.
"Mr. Parson, may I introduce Lady Lilith." Kanan gestured at me with a wide grin.
"Pleased to meet you, Mr. Parson," I said with a little bow.
"The pleasure is all mine, Lady Lilith," Mr. Parson chuckled. "I've been looking forward to meeting you
in person. I've heard a lot about you."
Kanan swiftly passed a glass of champagne to me and Mr. Parson, and a minute later, we were
engaged in a conversation about his business. I had learned that Mr. Parson was the owner of a huge
international development company. He invested big money and he earned sums with an insane
number of zeros. I began wondering why this incredibly rich man had been so eager to get to know me,
but something was telling me, I wasn't going to like his reason…
"Do you know what every businessman hates the most?" Mr. Parson asked suddenly.
I replied, smiling. "I'm not certain, but I will gladly hear an answer."
"Businessmen hate limitations, and right now I am limited. It's not because of greed. I merely love my
work, and some territories are restricted to vampires like myself." He smirked and gazed at me
meaningfully.
I could tell where this conversation was leading to. "Restricted… You mean that you are not allowed to
make investments within the packs' lands?"
"Exactly!" he exclaimed, his grin widening.
"Mr. Parson… is there a reason why you are telling me this?" I glanced suspiciously at him.
Suddenly, his expression changed, as if his mask had fallen off. As his eyes gave a calculated and cold
stare, his bright grin turned into a cunning smirk.
"You are a bright and intelligent woman, Lady Lilith. Don't tell me you cannot answer this question
yourself," he chuckled.
"If you wanted to meet me because I am the daughter of two Alphas, I hate to disappoint you. I am
nothing but a human," I tossed, slightly annoyed.
Mr. Parson laughed as if my response amused him. "You are a sweet joker, Lady Lilith," he snorted and
then stepped closer to look into my eyes. "No human can defeat a Royal Army warrior, and Kylo was
one of the strongest. He could even fight alongside purebloods and was no match for you."
I gulped. A nervous smile appeared on my face while I stepped back away from Mr. Parson. I had
never realized that Kylo had been this strong. He had certainly been the best warrior I had ever fought,
but I thought that there was a great distance between Kylo's strength and the purebloods'.
"I might be stronger than a typical human, but I am still a human only," I stated and looked at Kanan,
who listened to our talk silently.
He gave me a faint smile, as if he was trying to calm me down and listen to what Mr. Parson had to say.
"Dear Lady Lilith," Mr. Parson sighed, giving me a warm smile. "You are like a perfect ambassador. You
are a wolves' daughter, marked by a vampire king. You should negotiate the terms of cooperation
between the two races. The war costs money, and it is bad for my business, while I think you might be
our recipe for peace."
I burst out in hysteric laughter. "With all due respect, but you have no idea what you are talking about. I
have never belonged to a pack! The only wolf I could consider part of my family is most likely dead, and
no wolf would ever respect me! I am their eyesore!" I called out, clenching my fists.
"You are wrong. You might have been an eyesore when you were weak. The wolves and we have one
thing in common: we both consider strength to be something that brands your social status. You matter
more if you are strong, and currently, you have the whole Royal Army to speak for you," Mr. Parson
smirked.
I opened my mouth, but I couldn't find any reasonable argument that might prove him wrong.
Nonetheless, there was no way in hell that anyone could talk me into willingly discussing anything with
the wolves! I could still hear Derek calling me a traitorous bitch inside my head.
"No matter how good your arguments are, they won't work. Werewolves would never respect me. I am
nothing to them," I chuckled bitterly.
"Well, I wouldn't say that…" Mr. Parson snorted and tilted his head, showing me a direction.
My eyes followed where he pointed, and I saw Alpha Draven, standing against the wall with his arms
crossed over his chest, his eyes locked on me. I gulped. His gaze was intense. The moment our eyes
met, I couldn't breathe. The possessiveness coming from his eyes seemed to be saying "don't even
think about touching my property". I would like to say that I found his stare disgusting, but the strange
shivers I felt while looking at him claimed otherwise.
"I dare to say that the leader of one of the two strongest packs is very interested in you," he snickered.
I smiled awkwardly. "He's only interested in me as an item he bought but isn't his," I muttered under my
breath, but I believe Mr. Parson heard me and chose not to react as he did.
"Certainly, I can sense hostility as well." He discreetly gestured to the other side of the ballroom.
There was a blond-haired, tall guy, narrowing his dark-blue eyes at me. The amount of venom he
emitted seemed familiar. I bet this was Beta Kane, my father's second-in-command. I had never met
him, only heard of him. My father used to treat him like his son, a child he wished he had. It wasn't
surprising that he shared his Alpha's spitefulness, and he must have carried it deep in his heart. Yet, it
was puzzling that he didn't approach me, and just kept staring. If he had more than one percent of my
father's arrogance, he should have ignored conventions and used the opportunity to curse me or mock
me just like Derek had done. Of course, I was glad that glaring was all he did.
"This must be my father's Beta," I explained with a wry smile.
"Then, my advice to you is to side with the other guy," Mr. Parson claimed confidently.
"I don't think it would be easy," I launched nervously.
"Nothing is easy, Lady Lilith, but I think that you are perfect for the job. I am not the only one who is
tired of this mutual hatred between races. And I promise, if you show your worth and help build long-
term peace, you will have my full support and the support of many powerful semi-nobles." His widening
eyes and confident smile proved that he meant what he said.
"But… I don't know how… I spent most of my life running away from werewolves, not sweet-talking to
them." My laughter became hysterical.
"Then perhaps you should stop running, Lady Lilith," he stated, much more serious and decisive than
before. "It is time for you to find your alpha genes within you. Once you learn to use them wisely, we
will make you our queen."
