Chapter 0519
Chapter 0519
It was not like she had done anything wrong to him.
After finishing the meal, Alex took the initiative to clean up. Candice also helped out and went to take care of Ellis.
Just then, Hanley's call came in. "Are you still having fun? I checked the weather forecast over there, and it says it's going to rain today."
Candice was feeding milk to Ellis. She replied, "We already came home this morning." All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
"Is it because of the weather?"
"Yeah. It's inconvenient with the rain."
Hanley smiled. "That's good. I was worried you might catch a cold in the rain over there."
Candice heard the concern in Hanley's voice and replied softly, "I'm not that prone to catching colds, you know?"
Just as she finished speaking, there was a sound at the door. Candice looked up and saw Alex standing there, holding a cup of water and looking at her.
Candice frowned. Alex's gaze fell on her phone as he spoke gently, "I heated up a cup of milk for you. Drink it before going to sleep."
Candice hesitated, but Hanley asked. "It's late. Are your colleagues still at your place?"
Candice stared at Alex, mumbled a response, and then made up an excuse before hanging up.
When she looked back at Alex, her face showed displeasure. "Who told you to come over? I said before, don't come into the living room unless necessary."
She got up to close the door, but Alex handed her the cup. He lowered his eyes, his voice tired. "I'm sorry, I didn't know you were on the phone. You've had a tiring day, and a glass of milk can help you sleep."
He held the cup out to her, pursed his lips, and said, "I'm just trying to be helpful."
Candice looked at the cup of milk, raised her head, and met Alex's shining eyes.
She reached out to accept the cup, but she did not drink it. Instead, she looked at Alex. "I've emphasized before that you can't be too close to Ellis."
Alex responded stubbornly, "I’ll leave after you finish the cup of milk."
Candice looked at the cup in her hand, closed her eyes for a bit, and decisively walked to the kitchen. She poured the entire glass of milk down the sink without any hesitation.
The milky liquid flowed down the drain, and she turned on the tap, washing the cup silently.
After washing the cup, she looked at Alex and said, "Please don't do these unnecessary things anymore. It's wasteful, and I won't drink it."
Alex was stunned. He watched Candice's actions without hesitation, a pained expression flashing across his face, his eyes filled with bitterness and sadness.
But quickly, he forced himself to hold back and nodded, saying, "Okay, I won't do it again."
Candice started walking to return to her room. However, as she passed by Alex's side, he suddenly grabbed her wrist.
His hand was trembling, and his thumb gently rubbed against the side of her wrist. He asked her, "Are you engaged to Hanley?"
When he asked this question, Alex himself did not realize the fear in his voice. He could not forget the sight of that photo.
In the photo, Candice was smiling so happily, and she and Hanley looked so harmonious.
So, even though he had asked Lauren about it, he could not help but want to hear her answer personally.
Alex did not let go of Candice's wrist. He asked her, "Candy, you have to tell me. Are you together with Hanley?"
Candice's eyes were calm. "What if I am?"
Alex tightened his grip on her wrist, causing Candice some pain.
He stared at her and said slowly, "If you are with him, break up. If you are married, divorce him. But Candy, you won't, will you?"
