Chapter 0516
Chapter 0516
Alex's expression was not too good. He squatted down before Candice and looked at the left foot she had raised. He then stood back up with a darkened expression. "What were you running for just now?"
Candice turned her face away. She had walked over here because she did not want to see Alex.
Alex let out a breath, and Candice felt uncomfortable hearing his impatient breathing. She decided to speak up. "Can you not appear in front of me?"
Alex's eyes turned cold upon hearing this. He stared at Candice for a while but soon lowered his eyes.
Just when Candice thought he would turn and leave, he directly picked her up horizontally, his voice muffled. "You're injured, so just behave."
The sudden weightlessness made Candice very uncomfortable. She rebuked him softly, "Put me down!"
"You're injured."
"You don't need to worry about me." Candice's voice was chilly.
Alex's footsteps halted. The scent of cedar on him was very faint but clean and refreshing. He held Candice tighter and said after a while, "I'm sorry."
He looked down at Candice, but she looked away coldly. She seemed unwilling to be held by him.
This realization made Alex feel a tinge of bitterness in his heart. Perhaps he should have said this apology to Candice long ago.
Being held by Alex, Candice could smell the familiar scent on him. Human memory was terrifying. Although they had not been this intimate for a long time, just his scent and warmth could evoke the deepest memories she had hidden away.
She got annoyed on this rare occasion and could not help but mock him, "You left Erica behind. Aren't you afraid she'll be angry?"
Alex paused, then explained in a muffled voice, "There's nothing between me and her."
Candice sneered, and Alex added, "Erica's grandfather knows our family. He once asked me to take care of her."
"Take care of her in bed?" Candice felt like a hedgehog covered in thorns. She desperately wanted to find some evidence to prove something, her tone sharp and sarcastic. "You seem to have taken care of quite a few people well, even Sonia and Nina."
After Candice had finished speaking, she chuckled sarcastically again before Alex could respond.
Then, she heard Alex's voice. "It's raining."
She looked up instinctively and indeed saw raindrops falling, but it was not heavy rain yet.
However, Alex had already carried her away from where they were just now, finding an empty small wooden house.
He put Candice down and then took off his coat, draping it over her shoulders.
Candice watched him do all of this coldly, not reacting at all.
Even when Alex draped the coat over her, she moved aside, letting the coat fall to the ground.
Alex stopped, his pitch-black eyes looking at her deeply. His voice was low and firm. "No."
"I didn't sleep with Erica, nor with Sonia or Nina. Nor anyone else."
Candice asked him back, "Is that so?" Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
She clearly showed her disbelief with clear disdain and sarcasm in her eyes.
Alex remained silent for a moment before saying, "I've never had feelings for any other women."
"Do you think I'm stupid?" Candice looked at him expressionlessly.
If he had no feelings for other women, then when he repeatedly targeted her for Sonia, was he just playing her for a fool?
Candice looked at him and said word by word, "I'd rather that you truly liked Sonia."
That way, she could at least comfort herself. She was not as foolish as to be played with by Alex so hopelessly.
Alex closed his eyes and spoke with great difficulty, "Whether you believe it or not, I've never liked anyone else, nor have I had any relationships with anyone else."
Candice looked outside at the forest gradually fogging up, her voice very soft, "I don't care."
She really did not care anymore. She used to care too much, which was why she had ended up living like this.
Without love, one would be without burden. Now, she preferred not to think about anything, and things were much better that way.
However, as soon as she finished speaking, she was forcibly pulled into his arms. Alex held her chin and looked into her eyes, his panic growing. "Don't not care, Candy, you can't not care."
The look in Candice's eyes just now made Alex panic.
It was too empty, almost as if the whole world could not hold her and that she would disappear in front of him the very next second.
Alex felt like he might be going crazy. He could not stand Candice looking at him with such indifferent emptiness. He would rather see her eyes full of coldness and annoyance, like now.
Candice reminded him, "Let go."
The rain did not last long, and the fog dispersed when it stopped.
Checking the time, they had been out for two hours, and Candice did not dare to stay outside any longer.
However, in her current state, it would be troublesome to walk back.
Alex's tall figure squatted in front of her. "I'll carry you back."
Candice frowned. After their conversation had stopped just now, she had not spoken again.
Without turning back, Alex continued, "Little Berry is still waiting for you. If we don't go back soon, it might rain again."
He deliberately mentioned Ellis and did not dare to look at Candice's reaction. His whole body was tense.
Candice hesitated. When she heard the name "Little Berry", she frowned subconsciously. But she felt it was pointless to correct this with Alex.
Besides, he was right. If they did not return soon, it might be more troublesome if it started raining.
The picnic area was a bit of a distance away. Candice leaned on Alex's back, feeling his broad back and steady pace.
He carried her steadily, but Candice did not dare to move at all while on his back.
Alex remained silent until they were out of the forest and could see the tent.
Only then did he say, "During the game, what I said was true. I did something wrong, so you can be as angry as you want. But Candice, you can't deny me the chance to make amends."
Candice replied sarcastically, "Why?"
Why did Alex feel that he was wrong and that she had to give him a chance?
Did the world revolve around him?
Alex was silent for a moment. "I'll do whatever you want."
"I want you to stop appearing in front of me and disrupting my life."
Alex's lips curled with bitterness and self-mockery. He stopped walking, paused for a moment, and said, "Candy, you can't be so domineering."
Candice felt that Alex was extremely self-centered. He could treat others however he wanted, but when others treated him the same way, he would accuse them of being domineering.
However, such things did not exist in the world.
Candice did not speak to him anymore.
Due to the sudden rain, the original camping plan had to be canceled, and everyone hurried back to the hot spring hotel.
Because Candice had injured her leg, someone had to carry her up the stairs, and everyone's gaze fell on Alex.
