Chapter 0507
Chapter 0507
Oscar spoke earnestly, "I've seen your granddaughter. She's adorable and bears a striking resemblance to Mr. Alex."
"Granddaughter?" A hint of disdain flickered across Daniel's face, almost as if he found the notion amusing.
He glanced at Oscar and declared, "I will never welcome Candice and her illegitimate child into my family!"
Oscar responded, "Mr. Alex seems quite attached to her. I heard that when his daughter was hospitalized, Mr. Alex was by her side throughout."
Daniel's gaze grew even darker at Oscar's remark.
Oscar remained impassive, almost as if the conversation held no significance to him.
Candice was preparing to leave the country, so Yana took her to dine at a friend's private kitchen.
Yana's mood was sour. She questioned, "How long will you be away this time? Work is already dull, and now, I won't even have someone to share meals with after work. How am I supposed to cope?"
Her expression was filled with sorrow, almost as if Candice had broken her heart and disappointed her.
"It's just a business trip. I'll be back eventually."
"But you won't return to Dorrington, will you?" Yana sighed. "I never realized how quickly time passes until now. In the blink of an eye, you've all left."
Candice listened to Yana's words, feeling a pang of bitterness.
She didn't want to leave Dorrington either. Who would willingly leave their homeland if given a choice? But circumstances had forced her hand, first with William and now with Daniel.
Seeing Candice's silence, Yana finally understood the reason for her departure and struggled to find the right words to console her.
She recalled something and mentioned, "My mom told me that Mrs. Elysian has moved back to the Sui family. I just found out she wasn't willing to get married in the first place. My mom said she used to be very gentle. Thinking about it, which woman could endure her husband's infidelity for years and still keep silent? Anyone would go mad."
Candice listened silently. She hadn't been close to Helen, so she wasn't particularly worried about her.
Helen had been harsh to her before. Candice didn't see herself as a saint that she would sympathize with Helen. If she did sympathize with Helen, who would sympathize with her?
After the meal, they went to a nearby mall, where Yana insisted on buying clothes for Ellis.
Children grow every day. Ellis was adorable and sophisticated. Yana wished she could dress her in every piece of children's clothing available.
Candice let Yana take the baby for fittings. However, the crowded mall made her feel inexplicably anxious.
Her intuition was usually right. When she glanced in a certain direction, she spotted a man in a suit watching her.
Clearly, that man had noticed her too. He walked directly toward her.
Candice's guard went up immediately. She looked at Yana, who had just come out of the fitting room with Ellis dressed in a cute little duck outfit.
"How about this? My fashion sense is good, right? She’s too adorable," Yana boasted proudly, but the man had already approached.
He stood next to Candice and conveyed, "Ms. Renault, the Chairman wants to see you."
"Where is he?" Candice asked, holding back her nervousness.
"He's at the hotel."
Candice nodded and gestured to Yana with a glance. She said, "You two can go ahead. I'll be back soon."
"Ms. Renault," the man reminded her from behind, "the chairman also wants to see your daughter."
Candice's expression turned dark and declined, "She needs to sleep and doesn't want to see anyone."
While Daniel wanting to see her was one thing, she couldn't bring Ellis along. Knowing Daniel was planning something, she had to ensure her daughter’s safety.
The man in the suit remained firm. He reasoned, "Please don't make this difficult for me."
Yana spoke up sharply. "What do you mean by not making it difficult for you? Are you planning to kidnap her in broad daylight?"
"I wouldn't do that, but I can't say if the chairman will send someone else," he replied.
His words were a clear threat, leaving Candice looking grim.
Daniel was determined to achieve his goals by any means necessary.
Prompted by this knowledge, Candice hesitated before agreeing, "Alright, I'll meet him."
After her decision, she took Ellis from Yana. Perhaps exhausted from the ordeal, Ellis clung tightly to Yana's neck and refused to let go.
Candice whispered soothing words to her daughter, mindful of the crowded mall and background noise. She softly instructed Yana, "You can go ahead. If you don't hear from me within two hours, please call the police."
Yana's eyes widened in understanding. She realized the seriousness of the situation as she watched Candice take the baby and follow the man.
At Aether Corporation, Sawyer entered the office with a grave expression and greeted, "Mr. Elysian."
Alex had been in a teleconference regarding company issues and had been staying overnight at the office lately. ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
Sawyer relayed, "The Chairman has sent someone to fetch Candice and Mulberry."
Pausing the meeting, Alex's gaze turned serious as he questioned Sawyer, "What did you say?"
"The Chairman has arranged for Candice and the baby to be taken to a hotel."
"Who informed you about this?"
Sawyer replied, "Oscar did. He just called me and warned me that if you want to ensure their safety, it's best to head to the hotel immediately. He mentioned that the chairman is extremely angry."
The tension in the room intensified, leaving Alex with no doubt about the seriousness of Oscar's message.
Oscar's decision to inform Alex suggested that he and Daniel might be planning a trap that could put Candice and Mulberry in danger because of Alex's involvement.
Without wasting any time, Alex left the office immediately.

The night was tranquil when she arrived at the hotel. A man opened the car door for Candice, welcoming her inside.
Candice felt a slight relief that Daniel hadn't chosen a secluded location for their meeting. She experienced a brief sense of safety from the worst-case scenario while in a busy hotel.
Upon reaching the top floor, Oscar was already waiting. He greeted her with a forced smile, saying, "Good evening, Ms. Renault. It seems fate has brought us together once again."
Candice responded coldly, cutting straight to the point, "Mr. Sanburg, it's no coincidence that you arranged for me to be brought here. If this is fate, then it's certainly a peculiar one."
Her emphasis on being brought there against her will made it clear that she had no interest in engaging in pleasantries.
Oscar remained composed and explained, "I misspoke. But, Ms. Renault, there's no need to be on edge. The Chairman simply wishes to have dinner with you."
With that, he opened the door to reveal a spacious dining hall.
Candice hesitated briefly before stepping inside.

Meanwhile, a Maybach pulled up at the hotel entrance. Alex emerged from the vehicle and walked purposefully toward the building. His expression was serious, and his eyes betrayed a storm brewing within him.
