My Mirror Image by Maybe Not (Candice And Alex’s)

Chapter 0493

Chapter 0493

The girl glanced around and found an excuse to leave.

Alex suppressed emotions and slowly shifted his gaze to Ellis. For the past three days, he had been replaying the scene at the hospital in his mind. RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only

He heard the little girl calling Candice "mom," and heard Candice responding in a tone of unprecedented gentleness.

The scenes would appear in his dreams every night. Whenever he closed his eyes, Candice and this child would appear.

Even more crazily, he dreamed that this child called him "dad".

Alex didn’t like drinking, and he despised alcoholics even more. But in order to hear the word "dad" a few more times, he let himself get drunk for three days.

He thought that as long as he fell asleep, he could hear it again.

And then he indulged in that dream...

Alex had felt like he was going crazy as he allowed himself to sink into such absurdity for a near impossible possibility.

Now, he looked at Candice, his eyes carrying some expectation that even he himself didn't realize. However, Candice casually glanced at him, as if they were truly unfamiliar, then stepped back two steps, and said coldly, "If you have something to say, just say it."

Alex said, "I'll take you back to the hotel first."

"No need." Candice frowned slightly, looked at the sky, feeling that it was indeed going to rain, and she became a little impatient. "If there's nothing else, don't waste my time. It's going to rain."

He stubbornly looked at her. "I can take you back."

"I told you I don't need it, can't you understand?" Candice replied crossly.

Ellis seemed to be awakened by their conversation. She moved a few times in Candice's arms, and Candice became even more impatient.

She looked at Alex, her tone cold. "I have no interest in the questions you want to ask, I have no obligation to answer you, and we haven't had any contact for a long time, so you'd better not bother me anymore. It's really annoying."

Candice thought that with these words, someone as proud as Alex would leave.

To her surprise, he didn't move at all. Instead, he looked at her in silence.

Instead, he asked in a low, hoarse voice, "Do you have anything else to say? I'm listening." His tone was calm, without the usual sharpness, as if no matter what Candice said, he would go along with her.

Upon hearing this, Candice couldn't help but sneer. The depth of her eyes became heavier, and she imitated Alex's previous tone, saying, "Alex, don't you feel like you've lowered yourself now?"

Alex's pupils suddenly contracted. He watched as Candice turned and walked away from him.

It did rain on the way back. Yana's friend didn't dare to drive, so Candice did instead. The girl sat in the back seat with Ellis in her arms.

As they approached the traffic light in front of the hotel, Candice saw the girl glancing at her for the third time through the rearview mirror. She said calmly, "If you have something to ask, just say it."

"Well, I'm just a little curious, you and Alex..." The girl seemed apologetic. "Sorry, I didn't mean anything. It's just that I have a friend who just started working at Aether Corporation this year, so I've been paying attention. I'm just curious, did you two used to date? Why does he look so wronged?"

The girl's words were actually quite tactful. She probably wanted to ask if Candice dumped Alex, because of how he had looked just before.

Candice's eyelashes drooped, her voice as usual as she replied, "Not really, he's just my former boss."

"Oh, so you two had a crush on each other." The girl nodded, deeply convinced she was right. "But Alex is ruthless. It takes courage to date him. My friend said he looks scary with a stern face every day at the company. And I heard he had a fiancée before, but it seems it fell through."

-

Candice had to stay in Dorrington City for two more days as she was worried that Ellis might have a fever again

Yana would come over after work, and Hannah also came once, but didn't stay long and left in a hurry. It was said that the Baldwin family was in chaos recently, so her return might have something to do with it.

Jackson called to express concern, but he had been in Solaris recently and couldn't come back.

Since Candice went to South City, she hadn't seen Jackson again. Usually, they only contacted each other through phone calls and texts.

She joked about whether he was planning to build a career in Solaris. He paused for a moment before replying, "It's not impossible. If there's a suitable opportunity, I'd also like to come to Solaris."

Candice remembered Bella, but she didn't ask.

-

On a sunny Friday, Candice felt bored staying in the hotel, so she decided to take Ellis out for a stroll.

She didn't expect to bump into Sonia.

To be precise, she ran into Sonia supporting a middle-aged man with a limp. The man smelled of alcohol, his clothes were not in good condition, and because of his limp, he seemed shorter than Sonia.

Although it looked like she was helping him walk, it was more accurate to say he was grabbing onto Sonia's arm. Even though they were separated by a traffic light, Candice could still hear his loud voice.

"What's wrong with me drinking? Drinking is better than you, a hen that can't lay eggs! Damn it, you sick bitch, and you're not even a virgin! You should be happy that I was willing to marry you. Don't forget my mother gave your family two hundred thousand as dowry!"

His words were slurred, and Candice guessed it was because of the alcohol.

Candice remembered what Kayla had said before, that Sonia married. This man was probably her husband.

Candice had no sympathy, especially not for Sonia.

Sonia also saw Candice. She stood there blankly, looking even thinner than before, her face no longer pale but sallow. Her cheekbones had sunk in, and in the span of a year, she seemed to have experienced something that had worn her down like this.

Compared to Candice's indifference, Sonia's reaction was much stronger. She instinctively lowered her head and, before the traffic light turned green, tried to pull away from her drunken husband.

But she was pulled back, and her husband cursed loudly. "Are you blind?! Are you trying to kill me, and then take my money to find another man?!"

The scene began immediately.

Candice frowned and decided to walk back with Ellis.

On the way back to the hotel, there was a supermarket with a children’s ride shaped like a tiger at the entrance, and Ellis pointed to it, wanting to play.

Candice had no choice but to accompany her to play. Just as they started, a few people came out of the supermarket entrance.

William, where are we going to have fun later? Do you want to go to Everdeen Mountain? I heard there are some new cars there, it's really exciting."

"How exciting can it be? Can it be more exciting than my car?" A disdainful voice rang out.

When Candice heard it, her whole body suddenly stiffened.

William Zanford.

How could he be here?

But the ride hadn't stopped yet, and Candice couldn't take Ellis away, so she could only turn her back to William and try to be inconspicuous.

But Ellis was enjoying herself and laughing non-stop.

William hated children the most, and he impatiently cursed and looked over. His gaze fell on that slender back and his eyes narrowed slightly.
