Chapter 0491
Chapter 0491
Candice looked at the door. Sieg and Alex came in one after another. Sieg paused and narrowed his eyes. "Candice, why are you here?"
"Why can't I be here?" Candice replied.
"I've already said, there's two hundred thousand on that card. Is that not enough to solve it? Should I give you four hundred thousand?" William didn’t care much. On the contrary, he was very irritable because of his bad mood.
Candice pursed her lips. She didn’t expect Alex and William to be together.
But she couldn’t just let the matter go.
Candice decided not to think too much. Her voice was cold. "Young Master Zanford, when we were in South City, I told you that an apology requires sincerity." She glanced down at the bank card by her feet, mimicking William's arrogant manner, lifted her chin, and then kicked the card aside. "Originally, this matter could have been resolved, but since it's like this, let's forget it."
Her words were a provocation to William. No one had ever dared to trample his dignity underfoot like this before.
His expression immediately became furious, and the alcohol only made his anger worse. He picked up the ashtray next to him and threw it at Candice. "Who the fuck do you think you are, daring to come and teach me a lesson!"
His movements were so fast that there was almost no time for anyone to react, but someone reacted even faster than him, pulling Candice back.
Alex only managed to grab one of her arms, his strength was great, and Candice was pulled back so hard that she almost fell. The ashtray shattered on the ground, narrowly missing her feet.
Candice's face turned pale. William sat to the side, raised his middle finger at Candice, and spat out two words. "Fuck you!"
Candice felt that William wasn’t mentally normal, and it turned out she was right.
Outside the office, Alex told her, "Don't provoke William, he has intermittent mania."
"I didn't know." Candice was still frightened. She’d had only a few encounters with William, how could she know he really had a disorder?
However, after the panic subsided, she felt more irritable. No wonder William was so reckless. With his family’s backing, he was fearless. And when people heard about a disorder like that, they’d avoid him. No one would dare argue.
Candice pinched her temples, only then did she notice that Alex was still holding her, but now it had become her wrist instead of holding her arm as he had been originally.
Candice pursed her lips, and broke free from Alex's hand. "I'm going back to the ward."
Alex paused in place, wanting to follow after her. Candice had intended to stop, but before she reached the door of the ward, she heard the sound of Ellis crying. Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org
It was a heart-wrenching cry that made Candice's heart tighten.
She couldn’t care less about Alex and Sieg, and pushed the ward door open. Yana happened to be carrying Ellis out.
When Yana saw her, she said, "You finally came back. As soon as Baby Mulberry woke up, she kept calling out for her mother. No matter how I tried to comfort her, she wouldn't stop crying. I was just about to go find you."
As if sensing it, Ellis' crying immediately turned into sobbing when she saw Candice. She threw herself into Candice's arms, still murmuring, "Mommy."
Yana sighed with relief. "It seems that only her real mother will do—"
Mid-sentence, she suddenly saw Alex at the door. He was looking at Ellis in Candice's arms, his usually calm face filled with disbelief, and even a moment of blankness.
