Gud Wife 30
Catherine stormed off, determined to catch up with Mary. She couldn't believe Maximus was willing to defy her this time. Meanwhile, Maximus stayed seated at the table, thinking his grandmother wouldn't actually take any action regarding Mary. But if she did maybe it would be a relief-his house would finally return to normal.
'Grandma, you asked me to pay the bill, yet you didn't even order anything to eat,' he thought, a mocking smile crossing his face.
As Catherine made her way toward Mary, she pulled out her phone and called Peter.
"Hello, Peter dear! I need a favor..."
"Grandma, what is it this time? I can tell by that tone you want me to do something. Feels like you want me to get rid of someone," Peter replied, his voice laced with sarcasm.
"You silly boy! Is that how you greet your grandmother?"
"Oops, sorry! Hi, gorgeous grandma!"
"That's better!"
"Alright, now what favor do you need?"
"Oh, yes! I need a place to stay."
"Grandma, I'd love to host you, but my place might not be up to your standards. Plus, there's always a party going on here. If you don't mind the noise, I've got no problem."
"Peter, it's not for me. But you know what? That's what I love about you! You never say no to your grandma."
"Do I even have a choice? Haha, just kidding! You're always welcome at my place, whenever you want and for however long you need."
"My dear Peter, I'd love to come take care of you. You're too skinny! You need a mother's touch. But unfortunately, this favor isn't for me."
"Oh? Who's it for then?" Peter asked, intrigued.
"It's for a beautiful young lady i
my care. Can you believe she was staying with Maximus, but he's
asked me to take her out of his house?"
"Grandma, what's that all about?" Peter rolled his eyes.
"Well, we had an argument over Alexia. He tried to use her as leverage, wanting me to fire that woman from the company in exchange for letting Lupita stay with him."
"And obviously, you didn't accept, or you wouldn't be asking me for help," Peter said, resigned.
"Exactly! I find it disgraceful to use this girl to make me change my mind."
"So, I guess I don't have much of a choice?" Peter asked, now more intrigued.
"No, Peter. This is serious-it's life or death!"
"Grandma, everything with you is life or death! You scare me sometimes, even more than Grandpa ever did," he said with a playful tone.
"Come on,
son! Help your grandma out. This girl is like a little rabbit, all alone. She's only 18 and has no family nearby. It breaks my heart to see her so lonely know you'll take good care of her. In fact, I think you can help me with something else too..."
"What is it, Grandma?"
"I want to give her some freedom. At Maximus's house, she's been cooped up unless she's with me or Emma. You know your brother-he'd never take her out. I hate that she's always locked inside. You could help me get some papers for her to have a new identity."
"That's it? Really? You don't need me to get rid of a body this time?" he asked sarcastically.noveldrama
"Peter Palmer! When have I ever asked you to do that?
"Oh, Grandma, you just sounded like you were going to ask me that! What you're asking is easy. I'm in Valeria right now, but I need to head back home today. So, if you want me to take her, it has to be today. Tomorrow would be tricky because I have some meetings."
"Okay, okay, I'll let Mary know right away!"
"By the way, what name should I give her?"
"Sorry?"
"Her new identity-what name should I put on the papers?"
"Oh, that! Hmm... I've always liked the name Angela. If I'd had a daughter, I would've named her that." "Alright then, Angela Palmer it is."
"That sounds perfect! I love it!"
"So, legally and illegally, she'll be your daughter."
"Well, maybe give her the name of one of our aunts instead."
"Got it, I'll think of an aunt to give a daughter to."
"Peter!"
"What? I'm just saying she needs a family, right?"
"Do what you have to, but I want this girl to be free."
With that, grandmother and grandson ended the call, each knowing what they had to do. Catherine still
needed to break the news to Mary. She felt a pang of guilt, especially after the girl had confessed her attraction to her stubborn grandson. But she wasn't going to back down with Maximus.
As she neared the bookstore, Mary spotted Leopold, Catherine's chauffeur and head servant. Chapter ansio
