My Darling, My Dearest

Chapter 443 Join The Company

Chapter 443 Join The Company

Austin thought that it was something simple, so he didn't think about it too much. He didn't expect that the task assigned to him was to meet Rachel.

From time to time, Austin would look up at Rachel and then down at the coffee in front of him, sipping once or twice from his cup. He didn't know what to say at all, and the atmosphere around him became a little tense and awkward.

As time passed, the customers in the cafe had already left one after another. Seeing that the two of them had been sitting silently for quite some time, the waiter came up to them and politely asked, "Hello, would you like another cup of coffee? You've been here for a while, so your coffee must be cold by now."

"No, thanks." Since Rachel couldn't drink coffee, she ordered a cup of warm water, which was similarly cold as Austin's own drink.

She turned her head and looked at the lamp posts flanking both sides of the street. She smiled and said, "Austin, I'm sorry to keep you here for so long. Let's have dinner one of these days. I have to go."

"Okay." Austin didn't know what his boss was up to, but Jack expressly told Austin that he couldn't say anything before he set out to do his task. He felt uneasy about the entire thing.

Rachel stood up to leave right after settling the bill. She couldn't believe how stupid she had been.

When Austin had appeared, she should have guessed that Jack wouldn't come. Why in the world did she spend so much time at the coffee shop waiting for someone who didn't intend to appear? She looked like a complete fool.

Rachel wandered aimlessly on the street, and then she somehow found herself in front of Jimmy's shop. The shop was already closed, with the accordion doors already pulled down and locked. Taped in the middle of the accordion door was a red slip of paper with the words "For Sale."

Stunned, Rachel took a step back. She turned around and was about to walk away when she saw a figure standing on her way. She looked up and saw Jack, for whom she had sat for a long time waiting in that cafe.

She looked at him impassively and stepped around him to go on her own way. Jack grabbed her wrist and asked, "Why are you looking for me?"

"It doesn't matter anymore," said Rachel in a low voice. Nobody could have told what she was feeling at that moment. Jack was at a loss what to do. He had asked Austin to meet up with Rachel to see if she would surrender to him. He didn't take into account how she had never been that sort of person and never would be.

She pulled her hand away from Jack's grip and continued to walk forward. Over her shoulder, she said, "Jack, if you don't want to meet up with me, then don't make a promise. Don't waste both my time and Austin's. I'm a nobody. You don't have to waste your time on me."

A taxi pulled over just as she had finished speaking. Rachel got in the cab and told the driver her address. Her mind wandered to Jimmy. Things had happened, and she tried to think of other ways to assuage the guilt in her heart.

Following the disappearing vehicle with his eyes, Jack could feel his eyelids twitch and the corners of his mouth pull downward. 'Is Jimmy really that important to her?' he wondered.

Austin was on his way out of the cafe when he caught sight of Jack, so he walked over to greet the other man. As soon as he came close, he nearly regretted approaching him and wished he could

sneak back to the cafe. He was seriously contemplating doing so when he heard Jack call his name. "Austin."

Austin wiped the expression from his face and asked, "Mr. Fu, what can I do for you?"

Jack closed his eyes briefly. When he opened them again, his eyes were filled with self-doubt. "Did I go too far?"

"What?" Austin asked, confused.

Jack looked in the direction where Rachel left and said in a cold voice, "Why do I feel like I'm becoming more and more childish?" Austin only stared at him blankly.

Jack had been thinking of how he looked at and reacted to things. As long as Rachel was involved, things easily goaded his temper and made him act like a child.

Austin fell silent and said carefully after a few moments, "I think that you shouldn't concern yourself how outsiders see you. The point is, do you think you will regret your actions in the future?"

Jimmy had purchased a large amount of supplies from his dealers and had to send customers the goods that they had ordered. He had invested all of his savings in the business and ended up losing a lot. Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.

At that point, it was impossible to run the shop.

Rachel stirred her hot milk with a spoon and asked hesitantly, "Have you ever thought about what to do next?"

"Not yet," Jimmy replied, his lips twisted in a bitter smile. "I'll think about it later."

"Well, once you've made a decision, whatever business you will be doing, count me in. Let me invest in it."

This was the only way to help Jimmy out that Rachel could come up with after thinking it over for a few days. She knew that Jimmy would definitely disagree if she broached the subject of returning the money that he had lost.

She had no choice but to offer to become an investor so that Jimmy's financial pressure could be slightly relieved when he started a new business.

Her offer stunned Jimmy, who asked doubtfully, "Rachel, you are a doctor, and you make enough to support yourself, correct? Why do you have to go into business? It's too risky."

"There are many great opportunities to make money, and I want that, too," Rachel recited the same rationale that she came up with that morning. She smiled and added, "As a doctor, I get the same salary every month. I make enough to feed myself, but it's a bit difficult for me to improve my lifestyle with just that.

My child will be born soon, so as a mother, I need to expand my income so that I can guarantee a better future for my baby."

Taking a sip of the milk, she joked deliberately, "Jimmy, are you afraid that you won't be getting a large dividend if you make me a shareholder? Is that why you don't want to pledge me a share of the investment?" Jimmy's face turned red all of a sudden. He waved his hand and said, "What are you talking about? How could I refuse you?"

"Then it's settled."

Rachel felt like a stone lodged in her chest was lifted away. After she said her piece, her mouth felt a little dry, so she picked up the milk in front of her and drank it up in one gulp. "The milk in this

shop tastes really good. It's sweet."

"Do you want another glass?"

"No, I'm good," she demurred, indicating her empty glass.

Rachel glanced at her watch. It was getting late, so she stood up and bid goodbye to Jimmy. As she sat in the taxi, she felt uncomfortable—it was as if the milk she had just drunk was sloshing inside her stomach. She thought that it was carsickness, so she rolled down the window. A gust of cold wind blowing on her face instantly made her feel a lot better.

At home, Julie looked at Rachel, who was changing into her slippers in the hallway. She frowned and asked with concern, "Miss, are you not feeling well? You don't look too good."

"I'm okay, I was a bit carsick earlier. I'll be fine after a rest." Rachel gingerly sat down with one hand resting on her belly. She felt nauseous, so she quickly stood up and hurried to the bathroom. Julie heard the sound of the door closing, followed by retching. She knocked on the bathroom door, asking in mounting alarm, "Miss, are you okay?"

After emptying the contents of her stomach, Rachel straightened up and pulled two sheets of tissue to wipe her mouth. Her eyes met Julie's worried ones as she opened the bathroom door. She flashed a weak smile at the other woman and said, "I'm fine. I was still feeling a bit uncomfortable from carsickness. I feel much better after vomiting."

"But you have never been carsick before. Do you feel sick anywhere else?" Julie's brows were deeply furrowed. She reached for the landline phone and said, "Should I call the doctor to have you examined?"

"Julie, don't. I'm a doctor myself." Rachel sat on the sofa and slightly leaned back to rest her head. Even now, she still felt a little dizzy.

This particular bout with carsickness seemed really serious.

However, Rachel was afraid that Julie might worry too much, so she didn't say anything. She just closed her eyes and waited for the dizziness to pass.

Julie noticed the color bleed from her face, leaving her even paler than before, and felt afraid for her. "I'll call Lea to accompany you."

Still shaking her head, Rachel said, "You can't. Her pregnancy's a bit delicate, and her baby is not stable. She needs to rest at home. It's just carsickness, so it's no big deal. There's no need to let her know."

Just as she finished these words, bile came up to her mouth again. With a hand clamped over her mouth, Rachel rose to her feet to head back to the bathroom. The room suddenly swirled around her, and her body was shaking. Julie immediately reached out to support her and walked her to the bathroom. Rachel clutched both sides of the wash basin to support herself.

She had already digested her lunch and had nothing but milk since then. She had also thrown it up earlier. She stood hunched over the wash basin, and nothing else was coming out.

Dry heaving was even more uncomfortable.

Rachel's pale face had become flushed, alarming Julie. She stepped out of the bathroom and took out her phone to call the family doctor, but nobody answered it after a long time.

She could still hear Rachel pitifully heaving. Before she could think of her actions, Julie had already dialed Jack's number.

At that time, Jack and Scarlett were on their way out of the community.

Full of excitement, Scarlett sat in the car, straightened her dress, and flashed Jack a happy smile. "The wedding is being held at the hotel. Let's go there now." "Okay." Jack nodded his head, and then leaned back and closed his eyes.

Inside the car, only the sound of quiet music wafting from the speakers could be heard. Suddenly, Jack's ringtone sharply broke the relative quiet. When he saw the number on the screen, he answered the call without hesitation. "What's the matter?"

After a few moments, he said, "Okay, I'll be right there."
