Chapter 890 Charity in the Snow
“Don’t worry, the child will be fine,” Tom whispered to Nina who was sitting on a bench.
His voice drew her back to reality and she looked up at him smiling.
“I can’t believe you saved our family, I haven’t said thank you to you yet.”
“Don’t worry. You don’t need to thank anyone,” Tom replied.
Hearing his words, Nina didn’t know what to say, so she just nodded and continued to focus on her daughter.
Not long after, Kasen Paul and Ariana were pushed out of the operating room by a nurse.
“Mom and Dada!” Nina screamed, running towards them with True Paul in her arms.
The surgery went well but Kasen Paul and Ariana were asked to spend a little more time at the hospital so they could be helped to fully recover from their injuries. After exchanging pleasantries with Nina, the couple two returned to the ward.
After being sure her parents were okay, Nina knew she had to finalize their hospitalisation procedures. She was about to carry her daughter downstairs to book a ward when she saw Tom standing in front of the elevator door as soon as she stepped out to the corridor.
“Are your parents okay?” Tom asked. He was afraid of what Kasen Paul’s reaction would be if he saw him, so the former had kept his distance.
Now Nina could smile. “My parents need to be hospitalized, I will go downstairs and go through the hospitalization procedures.”
“I’ll go with you,” Tom offered, trailing behind her.
Nina thought for a while, considering that it was inconvenient for her to run up and down with the child. So she nodded with the conviction that Tom could help out in some way. It turned out, with the help of Tom, the hospitalization process was indeed completed quickly.
The two then came back to the door of Kasen Paul’s ward, with the child being rocked in Tom’s arms while Nina went in to persuade her parents to rest early. A few minutes later, Nina came back to the corridor, only to be surprised by the sight of Tom humming a nursery rhyme.
“True Paul has a fever, right?” She asked, joining him on the bench.
“Well, yes. I felt her shiver a little when I touched her head.” Tom handed the child back to Nina as he spoke.
After a while of not-so-awkward silence between the two of them,
Nina began to notice that it was getting late.
“Tom, you can go back to rest now. I can take care of my parents myself,” Nina asked.
“How do you plan on doing that when you need help?” Nina wanted to argue but she could tell he had a point. “Whether we are lovers or friends, I think I must protect you, so I can’t leave you at this time when you need me the most.” His tone was serious and he spoke without holding back.
“But you also have your job, and you will have to go to work tomorrow!” Nina protested.
“No, I already quit my job,” Tom replied with a casual tone.
“What?!”
Nina was stunned for a moment. She clearly remembered that before giving birth, Tom said that he would work harder and that he would take care of their mother and daughter. Although things had changed and Nina could no longer accept the care of Tom, she did not expect him to quit his job. Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
“Why? Are you dissatisfied with your previous job?” Nina asked in confusion.
Hearing her inquiries, Tom sighed.
“There is no reason. It’s not that I don’t like it, I just don’t want to do it” Tom said, shrugging as if the matter wasn’t something worth making a big deal of.
A long time ago, after he broke up with Nina reluctantly, he vowed not to find a girlfriend in his life. In the following years, he had gone to the western region as a teaching supporter. During this period, even if a lady showed attention, he would never reciprocate the same.
Tom never wanted to let Nina down. He wanted to guard her even if he couldn’t have her and she was married and bore children to someone else. That’s why he returned to the city when he heard that Nina had a new boyfriend, who was not only from a good family but was also a well-known actor in showbiz.
The first time he had come to know about Harley, Tom had felt even more inferior. He hid in his rented apartment, praying that Nina witness nothing but goodness with Harley.
But, unfortunately, the good times did not last long. Sylvia announced the news of her pregnancy on the Internet and caused an uproar, which led to the breakup of Nina and Harley. After he reunited with Nina, Tom rekindled his desire to reunite with her. Only as time passed, he found out that Nina’s heart seemed to be no longer long for him and she had truly fallen in love with Harley.
Learning about Nina’s new love crushed Tom. He quit his job and began using alcohol as a means to escape from his problems every day. However, she couldn’t tell Nina these thoughts, so he joked to lighten up the already tense mood.
“I plan to go on foot, first travel all over the country and then travel around the world!”
“Really?” Nina asked in disbelief.
“Yes, that’s why I quit my job. So I could have enough time to prepare in advance for such an adventure.”
Tom kept making fun of Nina’s questions and they kept on chatting till dawn. By the time they finally dozed off, with Nina with her baby in her arms, and Tom beside her, it was half past six in the morning,
Suddenly there was a voice in front of them, and the two were awakened by the voice at the same time.
“It’s dawn!” announced the nurse who was pushing a cart into the ward to change the medicine for the parents. Nina hurriedly handed the child over to Tom and followed her into the ward.
Nina went back to the corridor and saw that Tom was interacting with the baby with expressions, and a small smile formed on the corners of her lips. Since last night, Tom finally saw Nina’s heartfelt smile, and he was very happy. he handed the child to her and stood up.
“You take care of the child first, I’ll go out and buy breakfast for you,” Tom announced and stormed off without waiting for Nina’s approval.
About 20 minutes later, just as Nina was feeding the baby milk powder in the ward, she suddenly heard someone knocking on the door outside.
“Is that a nurse?” Ariana, who was lying on the bed, asked weakly.
Nina’s first guess was that Tom was back, so she replied with, “I’ll go out and see,” before strolling towards the door with a look of uncertainty.
Holding the child who had just eaten enough to open the door,
Nina saw Tom carrying his breakfast, sitting alone on the bench, panting.
“Thank you for your hard work, Tom, and thank you for going out to buy breakfast,” Nina said, Walking up to Tom. “c’mon. Enough with the thanks,” Tom groaned, handing the parcel to Nina.
Rolling her eyes, Nina accepted Tom’s breakfast but planned to hire a hospital nurse during the day, at least it could save them a lot of stress. She then walked into the ward and brought breakfast to Kasen Paul.
“Mom and dad have breakfast, Tom went out to buy it for you!”
