Chapter 970
As autumn was wrapping up, the northern regions were already feeling the chill, but Newport was still holding onto its summer warmth. Selena was getting closer to her due date, and Everett was treating her like royalty, making sure she was comfortable and happy at all times. He was like her personal assistant, always attentive and caring.
Everett had streamlined his life, cutting out all unnecessary engagements and rushing home from work every day to be with Selena. Nothing could shake his resolve to be there for her. Even Jaime, who had known Everett in his more cynical days, was amazed. Who would've thought that the once indifferent Everett, who scoffed at love, would turn into the most caring husband?
Love really does have a way of changing people, even those who think they're immune to it.
Jaime, however, was still a committed bachelor, and seeing Everett's
transformation only strengthened his belief that he would never submit to the so- called "prison" of marriage.
As the sun set, painting the sky with vibrant colors, Everett arrived home at Moon Bay right on time. He walked in, immediately asking, "Where's Selena?"
Ava, the housekeeper, took his briefcase and teased, "You're so attached these days, sir. I hardly recognize you!"
Everett, unfazed, shot back with a grin, "Grandpa always said that a man who spoils his wife is destined for success. So, I'm just doing what I must."
Ava laughed and replied, "But technically, Mrs. Selena hasn't agreed to remarry you yet. You're jumping the gun a bit, don't you think?"
Everett was momentarily at a loss for words but decided not to dwell on it. In this household, his status wasn't much higher than that of the family dog, and he was well aware of it.
Not wanting to drag it out, Ava finally relented and said, “She's in the backyard, soaking up the sun."
Everett was off before Ava even finished her sentence, leaving her chuckling to herself.
Out in the backyard, Selena was cozily wrapped in a blanket, gently swaying on the swing, enjoying the soft breeze. The wind played with her hair, and the sunset cast a warm glow on her, making everything seem just right.
Everett's heart felt full as he watched her, thinking that this was what happiness truly looked like. He quietly approached, wrapping his arms around her from behind and planting a soft kiss on her cheek.
Selena, pleasantly surprised, laughed lightly, "You're home early today."
Everett knelt in front of her, "I've got something important to do."
Selena raised an eyebrow, curious, "Oh? What's that?"
With a deep breath, Everett knelt on one knee and presented a ring, "Ava teased me about not having an official title, so...I want to make it official."
"Selena, will you marry me?"
Selena looked down at the pink diamond ring, a flicker of confusion crossing her
face.
"This pink diamond...wasn't it part of a necklace once?"
Everett nodded, "Yeah, have you seen it before?"
She had. One Christmas, she had
flown to France to share her big et
news of being pregnant, only to see Yasmine wearing the necklace that symbolized true love.
Hearing this, Everett paused, then let out a small, resigned laugh.noveldrama
"So you thought I gave the pink diamond necklace to Yasmine and misunderstood
everything? No wonder you never listened to my explanations..."
Everett sighed, "I had bought the necklace for you, but plans got delayed. Later, I had the diamond removed and set into this ring for you could never give something meant for you to someone else."
Selena was just as taken aback, "Then...what was Yasmine doing with a pink diamond necklace?"
What do you think?
