Mission: From Divorcee to Millionaire

Chapter 30

Selena pursed her lips, a hint of uncertainty in her voice. "What if I was just making a fuss over nothing?"

Callum shook his head with certainty. "You wouldn't."

Her eyebrows rose in surprise. "Really?"

"You're just not that kind of person," he replied with a knowing smile.

Selena was taken aback. This was only their second encounter, and they barely knew each other. How could he be so sure about her character?

Sensing her skepticism, Callum continued gently, "Sometimes, you just know."

A warm sensation spread through Selena's chest. It was amazing that even after such brief meetings, he could see her true nature.

Most people, including her husband Everett, would side with family over fairness. Even if Everett had witnessed the earlier incident, he'd surely have backed Rebecca.

But Callum was different; he valued fairness over family ties.

He was a real breath of fresh air in their social circle and so much better than that jerk, Everett!

Selena's appreciation for Callum soared, and she said sincerely, "Thank you for believing me."

...

A sleek black Rolls-Royce Cullinan rolled up the driveway, and Everett stepped out, his long strides quickly covering the ground.

Rebecca rushed over, clinging to his arm, her voice full of indignation.

"Selena's lost it! She came and started giving me attitude, then deliberately spilled red wine all over me. She embarrassed me in front of my friends. You have to set her straight, or I'll never live it down!" Everett paused, looking down at Rebecca, a slight smirk playing on his lips. "What did you do to her?"

"I... I didn't do anything," she stammered.Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

Everett's dark eyes narrowed, scrutinizing her silently.

The heavy silence made Rebecca's

resolve waver, and her voice quivered, just asked her to help serve some wine to my friends. It's not too much to ask, right? As the host, she should be taking care of the guests, shouldn't she?

Her confidence returned, "Honestly, she just doesn't know her place, coming from a humble background. She can't hold her own and only gets by with that flirtatious charm of hers..."

Everett's expression turned icy as he snapped, "Enough! Rebecca Bennett, where are your manners?"

Nothing unnerved Rebecca more than her cousin using her full name. Her heart skipped a beat, and she fell silent.

"And remember, Selena is the host, not a servant. She's my wife, not someone you can boss around!"

Rebecca was stunned. Over the years, she'd often bad-mouthed Selena to her cousin, and he never seemed to care. But now, he was actually defending her? "Are you feeling alright?"

Everett shrugged off her hand, his tone even colder. "From now on, show some respect to her!"

Disappointed that her plan had backfired, Rebecca could only stomp her foot in frustration.

...

As Everett reached the second floor, he saw Selena chatting animatedly with Callum.

Ever since she brought up divorce, every interaction with him was met with either a forced smile or a chilly demeanor. Yet here she was, laughing with someone else dooking genuinely happy.

A flicker of jealousy crossed his eyes as he approached, wrapping his arm around Selena's waist and pulling her close, meeting Callum's gaze head-on.

He offered a smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. "Callum, since when did you and my wife get so chummy?"
