Chapter 24
After she hung up the phone, Selena didn't waste any time. She blocked Everett again without a second thought. With that done, she felt a surge of relief wash over her.
She was done pleading with that jerk for a divorce. Whether he signed or not didn't matter. He'd have no choice but to come crawling back, asking for a divorce once Margot started showing. Selena was ready to walk away with nothing now, but when he eventually wanted out, she'd make sure it cost him dearly.

Everett stood in his mansion as the dial tone echoed in his ear. His expression darkened. His grip on the phone was so tight that his knuckles turned white.
Behind him, Margot's voice was soft and hesitant. "Everett..."
He turned around, barely sparing her a glance. "I'll have the driver take you home," he said coolly, picking up his phone to make another call.
"But won't you get a headache from all that drinking? I can stay and look after you," Margot offered, moving a little closer.
"It's okay. I'm fine." he cut her off firmly.
A shadow of hurt flickered across Margot's face. She paused, then tried a different angle, "It's really late, and I have an early flight. If I go back now, I won't get any rest. Can't I stay just for the night?"
She gestured to the spacious mansion, hinting, "You've got plenty of guest rooms here."
Everett acted as if he hadn't heard a word. As soon as the driver picked up, he gave his instructions directly.
Minutes later, the driver pulled the car up to the door. Margot, biting her lip, looked at Everett with a mix of reluctance and resignation. Despite her disappointment, it was clear he was in no mood for company. She told him to get some rest, then turned and left quietly.Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

Selena was only in bed for a short while before dawn broke. Joy got up to get ready for work, moving around quietly, but still, Selena woke up.
It was early, and she no longer had to keep up with that jerk's insane schedule. She closed her eyes, hoping to catch a bit more sleep.
Suddenly, her phone buzzed with a notification. She reached under her pillow, grabbed her phone, and any trace of sleepiness disappeared.
The past few days had been chaotic, and she'd completely forgotten that payment day was just around the corner. She had planned to finish the last job and, with her savings combined, cover this month's expenses.
But thanks to that jerk, her job wasn't completed perfectly, her commission was halved, and now she was short on cash.
Losing income was as good as
losing everything. Selena muttered a curse under her breath, wishing the worst on Everett. She realized sleep wasn't happening and jumped out of bed, booted up her computer, and dashed off an email to her boss.
Selena: [Hey Boss, got any new gigs? I'm up for anything, no matter the level. Just send them my way!]
Boss, confused: [Is it that urgent?]
As one of the top talents at Ink &
Insight, Selena usually got high-caliber assignments. Having reached her current position, she was pretty well off and could work once and not worry for years. So, she was picky with her projects.
She used to turn down anything that wasn't challenging or groundbreaking. But now... she had to swallow her pride for the sake of her wallet.
This was the price of being caught
up in romance; she had no one to blame but herself. She didn't dwell on it and just laid it out straight: [Yes, super urgent! I'm really strapped for cash so please, Boss, I'm begging you to throw me a bone.]
Her boss was a bit taken aback but still sent over a new task.
