Chapter 101
Everett's gaze darkened instantly, knowing full well that this woman wouldn't say anything nice if her life depended on it. He sneered, "You're lying right in front of your parents. Aren't you worried they'll have a midnight chat with you?"
Everett was being so irritating.
Selena turned to glare at him, thought for a moment, and reintroduced him, "Dad, Mom, meet my future ex-husband." Everett was speechless. After a beat, he chuckled. "Selena, I dare you to introduce me like that at tonight's dinner party." Selena picked up on the "dinner party" bit and stood up, eyeing him strangely. "How'd you hear about that?"
"Grandma mentioned it this morning. She said she even got us outfits to make a grand entrance tonight."
Everett paused, a sly grin tugging at his lips. "We can't let her down, so I agreed."
Selena's mind was buzzing. Given her and Everett's current situation, hosting a dinner party together was downright awkward. She was planning to convince him to scrap the idea on their way back from paying respects. They both agreed weddings weren't their thing, so it should've been easy. But here he was, throwing a curveball.
Selena knew he was doing this on purpose, her hands clenching in frustration. "Haven't seen you this keen in the past three years."
He just couldn't stand seeing her content.
Everett, not at all bothered by being called out, crossed his arms and said coolly, "Don't want to go? Fine, tell Grandma yourself." He knew Selena wouldn't do that, as it might upset Grace.
Seeing his smug face, Selena felt her chest tighten with anger. She moved her lips several times before her voice emerged. Words nearly gritted through her teeth. "Everett, since you agreed to go, you better play your part. If anything goes wrong, you'll end up like this twig..."
She looked around, picked up a twig, and tried to snap it at Everett with force. The twig, which looked delicate, stubbornly refused to break on the first try.
Selena was mortified. What kind of twig was this? It was not cooperating at all!

Everett seemed amused by her antics, letting out a deep laugh. He usually wore a stoic expression, but when he laughed, his features softened, like the warm sun breaking through a winter chill. It's absolutely captivating.
Selena found herself drawn to him, thinking that with a face like that, he was made to torment someone like her who was obsessed with looks. Otherwise, who could put up with him with his irritating personality? She shook her head to clear those irrational thoughts. Remembering the wrongs she suffered after their marriage, she gave a cold laugh and snapped the twig in two.
Everett's smile faltered.
Selena bent down, placing the hibiscus flowers she brought in front of the tombstone. These were her mom's favorite flowers.Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Then she took out a wet wipe, carefully cleaning the photo on the tombstone while speaking to them.

Selena glanced at Everett, who stood with his hands in his pockets, watching her with those deep, unreadable eyes. But she didn't care to guess his thoughts anymore. She stood up, dusted off her clothes, and said, "Let's head back."
