The return
Part Two
Life they say is not just a bed of roses but it has its bouquet of thorns. However, Lorraine had more thorns in her life than roses.
Several attempts were made to end her life just because… And the man who was supposed to protect her turned his back against her, leaving her to the wicked claws of death.
Fortunately, she met a good man who made her his priority and after having a good conversation with her late mother, she decided to return to her past to take revenge on those who enjoyed inflicting pain on her.
She will return as Melissa Rogers, an elegant and charming model who’s not just talented but a wealthy business woman as well. She’s happy to meet her husband after two years, but her heart is broken into shards when she discovers that she wasn’t just betrayed by her friends, but also by the man she loves.
They thought it was over, but it’s just the beginning and they are yet to feel the true meaning of pain.
PS: Melissa Rogers will be the new Lorraine Hills. Since she’s returning to take revenge, she had to change her look to become unrecognizable.
Melissa.
The weather which was previously bright and sunny suddenly turned dark and gloomy, causing me to sigh heavily inside the car. But nothing prepared me for the kind of heavy downpour that drenched me the second I hopped out of my car.
Standing by the side of my car, I was completely perplexed and unsure of what to do next. Returning to my car wouldn’t make my clothes dry or produce an umbrella. Shit! Why did I have to forget my umbrella in my penthouse?
So I decided to take the bull by the horn and head in. I hid my brown leather bag underneath my sleeveless beige knee-length jacket and ran into Hemming corporations.
Amidst the cold, a nostalgic feeling hit me as I darted my eyes around the building. After two years, everything was still the way they used to be. It was January so the walls looked like they were retouched, but that was just the only difference.
I stopped at the reception and frowned when I realised that a new person had replaced the former receptionist. Dexter hardly dismissed his staff and that could only mean that some things might have gone wrong in my absence.
“Good morning. I have an appointment with Stefan Adams. Can you ring him for me?” I asked politely as she gauged me with a sympathetic look.
I was freezing and the air conditioner wasn’t making things any better, but I couldn’t complain. The meeting was all that mattered to me as it would be the first step to setting my plans in motion.
“Yes, ma’am.” She called him immediately and relayed the message to him. “Can I get you a cup of coffee?” She said and after ending the call. “You look like you’re about to freeze.” She joked and I nodded, wrapping my arms around myself.
This wasn’t how I planned to step into this company, but at least no one could tell it was me; not by my hair which I’d dyed to a light auburn color or my face which had undergone plastic surgery.
I was a new person in every sense of the word and I felt safe in the knowledge.
The coffee came and I sipped it slowly, basking in the unique flavor of the coffee. I made a mental note to ask what kind of coffee it was because I really liked it.
Confident footsteps traipsed towards me and I took my attention from the coffee and jutted my face up. Stefan flinched when our eyes met but I wasn’t fazed by his surprise. Maybe my gray eyes reminded him of the former Lorraine but that would be the only link.
Melissa was different. I was different.
He steered himself out of his reverie and cleared his throat while I bit back a smirk. It was good to know that he hadn’t changed.
He stretched his arm while I stood up and received it, the cold dissipating slowly. “Hi, Miss Rogers. I’m glad you were able to make it.” He gave my drenched jacket a once over, then touched his chest. “I’m so sorry for the inconveniences.” He apologised.
I gripped his hard firmly then broke the hand shake with a polite smile. “You don’t have to apologise for something you have no control over.”
His lips parted slightly as he tucked his hair behind his ear. “That’s so nice of you, ma’am. Let me take you to the CEO’s office. He’s the one that wants to meet with you.”
Dexter?
My eyes narrowed in slits as I arched my brows in fake displeasure. “I thought the meeting was with you? How does it concern your boss?”Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.
He evaded my gaze, settling his lower lip between his teeth. “I’m sorry if you’re disappointed, but since you’ve already gone through all the stress to be here, why don’t you see him? I promise it’s for a good reason.”
I smiled within me while rolling my eyes outwardly. My number one rule was to make everyone know my worth and be assertive about what I wanted.
Never again would I allow anyone to trample on me because I was an orphan. Now I had a father who loved me to death, and enough money from the investments I made from my father’s loan to last me for a lifetime.
“You’re making a point. Let’s go then.” I urged him on and he smiled in satisfaction.
It was funny how one’s life could turn around within a fleeting second. Two years ago, he was my boss but now, he is doing everything possible to make sure I meet his boss.
I liked the change.
His secretary cleared us, but she kept her eyes filled with awe. I ignored her stare and trotted into Dexter’s office with an intimidating gait.
My body became taut as soon as I saw him, fixed behind the large mahogany desk that seemed like it was custom made for his huge frame. His head was bent, engrossed on the tablet on the table.
My fingers tightened on my leather bag, but I kept quiet while waiting for Stefan to alert him of my presence.
“She’s here, sir.” He announced nervously while I flashed a surprised gaze at him.
Stefan was never nervous around Dexter so what caused the change of attitude?
It didn’t take much time for the answer to surface. Dexter finally dragged his eyes away from the tablet and gave me a piercing look.
Recognition flashed in his brown eyes then disappeared instantly. A scowl crossed his features as he stared at me from head to toe with disapproval.
“I heard Miss Rogers is smart and beautiful. Why is she looking like she just came out from a pool?” He asked with irritation.
Stefan made to explain but I stopped him with my hands raised in the air. There was no need to defend me. I could hold my own.
I cleared my throat and quickly whipped up a good comeback. “Mr Hemmingway, I believe your ears are still working. Or even if they are on break, you should have noticed with your organ of sight that it suddenly started raining, hence my wet clothes.” He massaged a cute stubble that formed in his chin, his eyes twinkling with amusement.
“Are you insulting me?” He asked calmly and I almost scoffed at the audacity he had to ask such a stupid question.
“It’s not actually nice to be insultive to someone you just met for the first time, but since you lack manners, I might as well leave immediately and attend to other urgent matters.” I concluded with a deep frown and spun around, ready to leave.
His deep sigh resonated in my ears, causing a slight bolt of electricity, but I ignored it and reached for the door knob.
“Wait! Miss Rogers!” He mumbled an order and strangely, I halted on my steps.
