Marrying my high school bully

Cutting her off

Dexter

I was broken beyond repair.This is property © NôvelDrama.Org.

Lorraine just killed my sister without any form of remorse like a trained killer. She jilted me to exact revenge.

I spun around and my fist connected with the window of my car which had an immediate crack at the impact. Drake watched me quietly after collecting the phone, but he didn’t interfere which made me happy.

“I thought she loved me.” I rasped, sliding down my car as my voice cracked.

Drake interfered this time and crouched beside me. “Things happen for a reason, boss and she might have acted under duress.” He added, then snapped his mouth shut when I sent him a scathing look.

There was no need to find her or maybe there was, but not today. It was getting late and going ahead to find my sister’s body would prove abortive because I had no idea where Lorraine took her to.

“Take me home.”

He opened the car door for me without saying anything then drove off. The car rolled into the facade of my empty house and I pulled myself in.

I didn’t know when he left even though I heard him mumbling some words earlier. It felt like I’d been detached from my world and floating in a different space.

It felt good being there, at least I wouldn’t be reminded of my anguish.

My eyes darted at my wine cellar and I remembered a scenario that took place the first night after I forced Lorraine to be my wife.

I offered to have a drink with her and she accepted. The memory was still very fresh in my mind but the reminder that she was a heartless murderer shoved it aside.

Walking through a daze, I strolled towards the cellar and picked a bottle of Macallan with a wine glass. I loosened my tie and sank onto the floor with a sigh.

The silence wasn’t just unbearable, but it kept reminding me that the home I once enjoyed returning to everyday had been shattered and would never be repaired and so was my heart.

I’d loved Lorraine for the longest time and she decided to hurt me like this. Even though she was trying to retaliate for forcing marriage on her, she should have dealt with me instead of Victoria.

I banged my fist on the floor and clenched my teeth, my body raking with unshed tears. Not wanting to be overwhelmed by my pain, I quickly opened the bottle of Macallan and poured a very generous amount into the cup.

A knock sounded on the door, causing me to hiss at the unwanted visit. My appearance was shabby, not good enough to reveal to outsiders, but the knock was persistent just like my throbbing headache so I groggily asked the person to come in.

Heels clicked on the tiled floor as I downed the Macallan and dropped the cup. “Just say what you want and leave.” I spat bitterly.

“What’s going on, Dexter? Where’s Lorraine? Have you been able to get to her?” Her series of questions fueled my anger, but I reined in my emotions as I lifted up my face and glared at Emilia who wore a worried look.

“I haven’t heard from her and I don’t care where she is.” I said curtly.

She sighed and lowered herself onto the floor. “Something isn’t right, Dex. Your wife is missing and all you’re comfortable doing is to drink? Don’t you love her anymore?” She scolded me, but that only irked me further.

“And who are you to tell me what to do?” I roared, causing her to jerk backwards in fear.

She caught her breath, her eyes bulging but not straying away from me. At a point I felt sorry for her because she was here when everyone deserted me. “I’m so sorry for not minding my business.” She scurried away from me and picked up her bag. “I think I should leave.” Sadness was evident in her tone.

I caught her wrist before she could make it to her feet. “Don’t go.” I breathed. “I’m sorry for being harsh. It’s just that…” I trailed off. “A lot has happened today that sharpened my perception about people, especially Lorraine.” I couldn’t even bear to call her my wife.

“How do you mean?” She asked with a low tone that showed she was ready to listen.

There was no better way to announce it than pushing the words out so I went ahead. “Victoria is dead.” Emilia’s gasp was unmistakable, but I continued. “Lorraine killed her.”

Her palm flew to her mouth as she drew closer to me with empathy masking her face. “How do you know about it?”

I told her about how she had been unreachable before the wedding, then the video that was sent to Drake’s phone. By the time I finished, my body was vibrating with renewed anger and disappointment.

“Oh my. I can’t believe that Lorraine would do such a thing. She was so nice and sweet to me.” Emilia replied, horrified. “What are you going to do now?”

I shrugged and averted my gaze from her because I wasn’t sure of my plans yet, but all I knew was that I had to get the body of my dead sister then track Lorraine down. She had to pay for her crimes, wife or not.

“Tomorrow will tell.” I answered shortly then flashed a glance at her. “Do you care for a drink?” I offered and she smiled, nodding her head.

“Why would I reject a drink from you? It’s like a peace offering.” She chuckled and I got up to get another cup for her, but my view became muzzy and I staggered.

I couldn’t believe that just one glass of whiskey was messing with my balance, but then nothing about my life presently was under my control.

As I headed to the cellar, my steps continued to waver until I missed a step and nearly fell if not for the small hands that held my arms. “Be careful, Dexter, you will hurt yourself.” Emilia came to my aid.

“I’m hurt already.” I peered at her face then my eyes lowered to her parted lips which looked a bit inviting.

Once upon a time, I’d have been repulsed by her presence, but right now I needed a distraction that could help me forget about Lorraine, and she availed herself.

“I want to kiss you,” She murmured and I blinked hard, contemplating on my options.

She was available yet something held me back. Then I realized that Lorraine still had a strong grip on my life that had to be cut off.

I wrapped my hand around her neck and lowered my head due to the difference in heights. “Do as you wish.” I urged her on.
