Catching the captor
Dexter
I watched her fall into a deep and peaceful slumber. She needed to rest, and I needed to deal with someone.
My eyes darted to her small lips which she pursed as if she wasn’t happy that I forced her to sleep. “Have a good night’s rest, angel. ” I planted a kiss on her forehead and hoisted myself up gently to avoid arousing her.
She stirred immediately like she felt my movement, then turned to the other side of the bed and continued her sleep. I headed for the bathroom and quickly had a shower, then came out to meet a bag on the bed.
I opened it and brought out the black dress shirt and matching black pants that I’d asked Drake to get from the house earlier on.This content provided by N(o)velDrama].[Org.
Satisfied with how good I looked, I wore my wristwatch and loafers then headed out, after ensuring that Lorraine’s body was properly covered.
Drake, who was engaged in a conversation with the other men, left them and headed towards me. “Is there anything you want me to do for you, boss?”
I shook my head. “Just make sure no one enters this room. No one at all.” I ordered steely.
“Yes boss!” He replied and I patted his back as he assumed his position at the door.
Drake had become one of my most loyal men and I knew that he’d protect Lorraine with his life. I only prayed that it wouldn’t get to the extent of losing his life.
I drove to the hospital to make sure that Victoria was fine and my men weren’t slacking. Fortunately, I wasn’t disappointed as she was sleeping unperturbed when I checked on her.
“Dexter.” My name rang out from the hallway and I turned around to find Arnold trotting towards me.
He was dressed in a plain blue T-shirt with a suitcase in his hands. It was too late to attend a meeting by such time of the day, but I shoved the thoughts aside, deciding that whatever he did with his life wasn’t my business.
“You’re here.” I muttered.
“I’ve been calling Lorraine all day and her line is unreachable. Is she alright?” He questioned.
I was puzzled because only a few people knew that I was in the hospital. “How did you know that I’d be here?”
He shrugged, taking a cursory glance at the walls around us. “I came to see a friend who was rushed here in a dying minute, then I saw you. But that’s not the problem right now, where’s Lorraine? We were supposed to meet before I leave.”
Anger laced with jealousy simmered within me as I glowered at him.
“You asshole!” I hollered, summoning every droplet of self control I had so I wouldn’t throw a punch at him. “Lorraine almost got kidnapped because of you. When will you learn to stay away from her?”
His eyes widened and the suitcase in his hand dropped to the floor. “What do you mean?” His voice became soft as he advanced towards me.
I could see genuine worry in his eyes for her which helped to calm me down. “Victoria was admitted.” I informed him, evading his series of questions.
“What!” Surprise rang hard in his tone. “How’s she doing?”
“She’s recuperating and Lorraine is resting right now undisturbed.” My reply was blunt and short though he didn’t deserve that, but any time I saw him with Lorraine, I couldn’t ignore the jealousy that bubbled within me.
Arnold was handsome and easy going. He was more expressive with his feelings than I was and Lorraine hardly told me what they discussed…
God! What if he was already wooing her?
“I was supposed to leave for Chicago today, but I couldn’t because I felt something was wrong. Being here, I guess I was right and I have a request to make.”
I snorted, frowning deeply. It was bad enough that I didn’t feel comfortable around him, now he was asking for a favor.
“Spill.”
“I want to see Victoria.” He stated with a hint of uneasiness.
“And why should I allow you to see her? The both of you broke up a few years back and I’m not sure she needs you now.” I said in her defense.
Victoria was doing her best to get better, I won’t allow anyone who would jeopardize her progress to come close.
“We broke up because she cheated, yet I’m insisting on seeing her. Doesn’t that say anything to your conscience?”
His words got to me as I rolled my eyes. We weren’t conversing as business partners but as two men who needed each other even though I didn’t want to acknowledge it. “You can see her but if I return and discover that she’s hurt again because of you, it won’t be funny.”
His lips formed a smirk as he tucked his fists into his pocket. “Unlike you, I don’t do so well in breaking hearts.” He replied coldly, a flicker of challenge crossing his features then disappearing almost immediately.
I immediately regretted giving him the permission to see my sister, but I’d given him my word already and I wouldn’t go back on it.
“Don’t forget what I told you.” I brushed him off as I stormed out of the hospital.
Strangely, I didn’t feel uncomfortable knowing that he’d be around my sister, and I didn’t like it. I didn’t want to be friendly with him, especially now that I didn’t know where his loyalty lay.
Shoving the unimportant thoughts aside, I sped up to the empty building that Dante told me that they were in.
Fury began to brew within me as I trotted from the yard to one of the rooms that the douchebag was tied up in. By the time I’d be done with him, he would never hurt anyone close to me.
I wasn’t in the mafia, nor was I entangled in any bad business, but after escaping several life threatening incidents that were orchestrated by my enemies in the business, I decided to play by their rules.
In all, I made sure my hands weren’t soiled with dirt and I didn’t commit murder, but having the man who hurt my woman around me tested my decision to remain clean.
The door of the room he was kept in pushed open for me to enter. My eyes searched for the culprit and a sense of satisfaction welled within me when I saw him.
“I hope he’s good?” I motioned to Dante who took off the veil that his face was covered with.
“Yes boss.”
I advanced towards him to have a clearer look at his face, but I froze on my steps. His battered face looked oddly familiar, bearing an uncanny resemblance to the man I saw in the video that Blake showed to me.
I reached for his chin, tipping it upward so he could stare back at me. My face formed an intimidating scowl as I realised that he was the same man.
He tried to rape Lorraine a few years back, and today he tried to take her away from me.
At the snap of my finger, a chair was provided which I sat on. “Well, Mr Cornel, we have a lot of things to discuss but the first thing I’d like to know is who sent you.”
A gasp flew past his lips as he gulped, averting his gaze from me.
He was stubborn, but I was persistent and I had all the time to get all the answers I needed from him.
