Chapter 44 The Calls
Hearing Benjamin’s voice, Harper subconsciously looked up and met his cold, deep eyes.
Displeasure was written all over his face. Harper said with some confusion, “I’m not impatient. Not wishing to waste your time, I got ready in advance and waited for you here.”
She thought, “Isn’t it better to be early?
In this way, he can be with Lauren openly at once.”
Harper didn’t understand what he was angry about..
However, she refrained from asking and gazed at him in silence.
Benjamin glared at her fiercely, as if he was very displeased. Meanwhile, Lauren came down from upstairs and whispered, “Benjamin. NôvelDrama.Org owns all © content.
Yeah.” He then walked down
Lauren continued, “Benjamin, are you going to go through the formalities later?”
Harper ignored her, pretending not to hear her, since Lauren was not asking her anyway.
Benjamin said indifferently, “Yes.”
It was succinct.
Harper felt that he was probably in a bad mood. After all, he was to cold towards his sweetheart, Lauren.
It would be better for her to say less
Lauren was delighted and asked, “Benjamin, shall we eat out tonight?”
Benjamin did not refuse and said, “It depends. If there is no arrangement, I will have Curtis pick you up, okay?”
“Okay,” Lauren smiled and nodded.
Harper felt like an outsider in that instant, nearly at a loss.
Fortunately, Draven came to remind them to have breakfast.
About half an hour later, after breakfast, Benjamin went out first and got into the car. Harper picked up her papers and hurriedly followed
They all sat together in the car. Just before it began to move, Lauren approached again and leaned over to peer through the window at Harper and Benjamin. She said, “Benjamin, Harper, I want to extend my congratulations to you both on your newfound single. Harper, I’m grateful to you for taking care of Benjamin for me this year. Can we be friends in the future?”
Expressionless, Harper glanced at Lauren coldly and said, “Ms. Davis, do you like to befriend your husband’s ex–wife? I’m sorry. I have no interest in my ex–husband’s current wife, so we may not be friends.”
[ you: can become
“Harper, you think too much. You and Benjamin don’t love each other. You got mamied for the sake of your elders, so it’s possible that y very good friends after divorce. Besides, Benjamin will look after you in the future. When we get married, it will also be my responsibility, so we can make friends.”
“Sorry. I’m not a saint. Ms. Davis, as you please,”
With that said, she raised the window directly, successfully blocking Lauren’s voice.
Harper turned to Benjanin. “Benjamin, let’s go.”
Benjamin did not participate in the conversation between Harper and Lauren. After stepping on the accelerator and starting the car, he glanced at her and said, “Tauren didn’t mean to be unkind to you. Why did you have such a big reaction?”
“I was stating the facts
“Whot fact?” he naked.
“Benjamin, I don’t think I can be friends with you or Lauren anymore after our divorce. After all, aren’t we supposed to be complete strangers? It will be good for both of us in the future.”
Most importantly, Harper still couldn’t bear to see the loving scene of the man she loved and his sweetheart
A qualified ex–wife should never have any contact with her ex–husband.
Benjamin didn’t say anything to Harper’s explanation. At that moment, her cell phone rang
At the sight of the caller ID on the phone screen, she frowned and slid her finger to reject the call.
Benjamin noticed it and asked calmly, “Why don’t you answer the call?”
“It’s not urgent, so I don’t need to answer it.”
Harper looked out of the window.
The call was from Jennifer. Of course, Harper knew what it was for.
So, she didn’t want to an
to answer it.
But another call immediately followed. Harper appeared indifferent and turned off her phone directly.
Everything should have waited until she completed the divorce procedures with Benjamin.
Benjamin asked, “Who is calling?”
my mother.”
“Why don’t you
‘t you answer?”
Harper said, “She doesn’t want us to divorce, so it doesn’t matter whether I connect the call or not.”
Benjamin’s eyes were deep, and he asked, “Your relationship with the Mitchell family is not as good as it seems on the surface, is it?”
“More or less. It’s not important ”
Harper didn’t want to talk in depth. After one year of marriage, Benjamin had never taken the initiative to ask her about her relationship with the Mitchell family. Now that they were getting divorced, it was not necessary.
Naturally, Benjamin sensed her indifference. He caught a glimpse of her with a dark face and then said, “Your parents don’t want us to divorce. Without their permission, how will you explain it to them?”
“I am already an adult and can make decisions about my own affairs, so you don’t have to worry so much about me.”
She showed no emotion at all. It was just a very calm response.
But in Benjamin’s ears, it seemed like a purposeful rejection of maintaining their distance. He grew increasingly somber, and his deep eyes turned cold
After that, they fell silent.
Soon, the car arrived at the door of the Courthouse and stopped steadily.
As long as they walked through the outer door, any connection between them would cease once they emerged.
They didn’t speak in tacit agreement. The atmosphere in the car was so quiet that they could hear each other’s breathing.
Half a minute passed before Harper said, “Benjamin, let’s go in.”
“Okay,” Benjamin replied.
Harper opened the car door and was about to get out when Benjamin’s cell phone suddenly rang.
When the call was connected, he asked in a low voice, “What’s wrong?”
Harper had no idea of what the person on the other end said, but Ise became anxious and frowned tightly. The next moment, he ended the call,
turned to her, and said, “Lauren is not feeling well. I have to go to the hospital now. Do you want to come with me?
Furrowing her eyebrows slightly, Harper said, “Can’t we go through the procedures first?”
“Harper, when Lauren feels uncomfortable, her life will be endangered at any time. Compared to the divorce, she is undoubtedly more important to me.”
Without waiting for Harper to respond, Benjamin directly stepped on the accelerator and headed to the hospital.
The car was running so fast that Harper, who had already unbuckled her seat belt, had to put it on again quickly.
From the corner of her eye, she saw Benjamin’s gloomy face. She thought, “At this moment, he is already very worried about Lauren, so what does it matter to postpone the divorce with me for her?”
After all, he said Lauren was more important.
Harper remained silent all the way to the hospital.
But she didn’t get out of the car and just said, “I won’t go. I’ll wait for you here.”
“Whatever.”
Benjamin glanced at Harper indifferently and then strode into the hospital.
His anxious back made her heart sink.
Benjamin hadn’t come out for a long time. Harper guessed Lauren might be seriously ill.
