Married At First Glance: I Am Not Ugly

Jerk

Marissa stood there, her eyes wide open in shock, trying to understand what had just happened. A stranger, a rich-looking man, had asked her to marry him out of nowhere.

“Huh? Wait, what?” Marissa said, her voice shaky.

Alexander seemed annoyed, sighing loudly.

“Yeah, I asked if you’d marry me. Can you answer that?”

Marissa was confused, not sure what to say. She had been having a tough day, and this unexpected proposal was just too much.

“But… why me?” Marissa finally managed to ask, her voice trembling. “I mean we don’t even know each other and you just told me to marry you just like that? It’s just….. crazy don’t you think?”

He leaned back in his chair and looked at her closely.

“I’ve got my reasons. You’re the one I want for this.”

“Me?” Marissa asked, a look of surprise on her face.

“Hmm-hmm.” he replied.

“You’re the perfect person I want to marry for this.”

“But…. you…. don’t know who I am.” she said. “I could be a bad girl or worse a thief who just wants to steal from you and run. Why would you marry someone you just met?”

“Because I need your help,” he said.

Marissa was still struggling to make sense of the whole situation, and her thoughts tumbled out in a rush.

“This is insane! You’re like…. proposing to me out of nowhere, and we haven’t even had a proper conversation! What if I have a dozen cats at home and I talk to them in my spare time like doctor dolittle huh? What if I have a secret collection of garden gnomes that I like to play with? What if I was some witch who can just cast a spell and make you disappear to Hogwarts huh? “You don’t know anything about me! Marissa exclaimed, her voice filled with disbelief.

Like this guy must be crazy or something or maybe he got some loose screws in his brain and needs medical attention.

“Or do you need to go to the hospital or something for a test? Because it looks like you’ve clearly lost your mind.” she said.

“My mind is clearly intact lady. I need your help and I’m not crazy.” he said

“Marrying someone you don’t know is all round insane you know that right?” she asked.

“I know…. but do I look like someone who gives a fuck what you think. I don’t care if we just met. I asked you a simple and direct question; will you marry me?” he said, looking obviously angry.

“And what if I say no?” she asked.

“Then I have no business with the likes of you.” he said, harshly.

Marissa has had enough of this guy rudeness and cleaned her tears.

“You don’t talk to me like that. I deserve to be respected.” she said. “If you are asking someone for a favor, you should be polite and respectful and not be all rude and a jerk about it.”

“Did you just call me a jerk?” he asked.

“I didn’t call you a jerk. I said if you want to ask someone for a favor all you had to do was be nice about it and not be all rude and a jerk about it.” she replied.

“That’s the same thing! You called me a jerk!”

“Oh my gosh! You’re so impossible right now.” she said. “This is the reason why we can’t get married, mister. You’re not nice and you like treating people like me like shit.”

“Well…. I treat those I want or like well, while those who don’t deserve it, I treat them like a piece of shit. That’s how I roll young girl.” he said.

Marissa wasn’t going to back down easily, especially when faced with rudeness. She decided to address the matter head on.

“You know.” Marrissa began, her voice firm. “You can’t just go around treating people like they’re disposable. Your attitude is terrible.”

He looked at her with an angry face.

“And who are you to lecture me on my attitude huh? Are you my parent or are you my girlfriend? Answer me!” he asked.Content is © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.

“I’m someone who won’t stand for being treated like dirt. If you want my help, you’ll have to change that annoying attitude of yours.”

He scoffed.

“You think I care what you think? I have my reason for everything I do.”

“Well I don’t fucking care about your goddamn reason okay? You can’t expect anyone to marry you if you keep acting like this.” she said.

He raised an eyebrow, intrigued by her boldness.

“Are you saying you won’t marry someone like me?”

“YES!! If you were you, would you marry you?” she asked.

He didn’t say anything and just kept staring at her, anger in his eyes but Marissa didn’t care at all. She has been going through a lot and had less than 48 hours to provide the money for her brother’s radiotherapy.

“You haven’t answered my question.” he said finally.

Marissa nodded.

“That’s exactly what I’m saying. I won’t marry someone who’s disrespectful and treats people like garbage.”

He leaned back in his chair, a smirk playing on his lips.

“Well well, you certainly have a way of standing up for yourself.”

Marissa shot back without hesitation.

“And you have a way of pushing people away with your arrogance. Our conversation had taken an unexpected turn, with both of us standing our ground. It remained to be seen whether we could find common ground or if our differences would prove too great to overcome.”

Alexander looked angry.

“Look, I have my reasons alright for this, and I don’t think I need to explain my reasons to you since we don’t know each other. I just need your help and cooperation and I thought this proposal would be a simple way to get it. If you’re not interested, just say so and stop wasting my precious time. Because if you haven’t noticed, I’m a busy man.” he said.

“What a jerk!” Marissa said to herself while looking at him.

Marissa paused for a moment thinking about what to do. Part of her is curious about what his reason was to propose to a lady he just met and the other part is wondering what’s in it for her if she accepts his proposal.

“Okay, fine. Let’s say I’m crazy enough to go along with this. What’s in it for me?”

Alexander stood up from his seat and came closer to her, his voice serious.
