Expensive Gift
The next morning, Marissa woke up early and decided to prepare breakfast since that day was a weekend. She looked at Alexander who was still fast asleep and smiled at him before leaving the room to the kitchen.
As she walked into the kitchen, she began to gather the ingredients for her favorite breakfast dish: waffles. She was in the middle of cracking an egg when she heard a knock at the door.
Frowning, she set the egg down and went to answer it. When she opened the door, she was surprised to see a courier standing there, holding a package.
“I have a delivery for Marissa.” the courier said, holding out the package.NôvelDrama.Org content.
Marissa took the package from him, surprised and curious as to what it could be. “Thank you,” she said, as she closed the door and returned to the kitchen.
She set the package down on the counter and examined it. There was no return address, and the label only had her name and address.
She didn’t recognize the handwriting, so she had no idea who it could be from. Her curiosity piqued, she decided to open the package. As she did, she realized that it was a small jewelry box.
She lifted the lid, her heart racing, and inside was a beautiful necklace. It was a simple design, with a single diamond suspended from a delicate chain. She gasped at the sight of it, wondering who could have sent it.
She read the note inside the box.
It said “Congratulations”.
She wondered who could have sent it as there was no name and all the sender wrote was congratulations. She sighed as she looked at the jewelry box and then decided not to think any negative thing.
She dropped the box on the table and returned to the kitchen to prepare waffles and coffee for breakfast before Alexander would wake up.
As she was whisking the batter, she found herself thinking about the necklace. She was sure it must have been an expensive gift, and it was very kind of the person who sent it to her.
She knew that she should be grateful for the gift, but a small part of her couldn’t help but feel a little bit suspicious.
Who could have sent it? And why had they sent it anonymously? She shook her head, trying to clear her thoughts. There was no point in dwelling on it, she told herself. She would just enjoy the gift and not think about who had sent it.
As she was whisking the batter, she heard the bedroom door open and turned to see Alexander coming into the kitchen. He smiled at her, and she returned the smile.
“Hey, there you are.” he said, coming up behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist. “What are you doing?”
She leaned back against him, enjoying the feel of his strong arms around her. “Just making some breakfast.” she said. “I hope you’re hungry.”
“I am,” he said,
And then he noticed a package on the table.
“What’s that?” he asked as he moved towards the package.
He picked up the package and looked at it curiously. “There’s no name or address on it,” he said. “Do you know what it is?”
“Yeah, I opened it and saw a necklace.” she said.
“Someone came to deliver it this morning.”
He opened the box and saw the necklace and Alexander let out a low whistle.
“Wow, this is some fancy piece of jewelry.” he said, picking it up and examining it closely. “But who sent it?”
“I don’t know.” she said. “There was no name, just congratulation.”
“Congratulation?” he asked, looking confused. “Congratulation for what?”
“Maybe for our engagement? I don’t know, but I guess whoever sent that gift was present at the event yesterday.” she said, shrugging her shoulders. “It’s a mystery.”
Alexander put the necklace back in the box and closed the lid. “Well, whoever sent it, it’s a beautiful gift,” he said. “But I’m more curious about how they got my address and why they didn’t reveal themselves.”
Marissa could see the wheels turning in his head, as he tried to puzzle out the mystery. She knew that Alexander was always looking for answers, trying to figure out the whys and hows of everything. It was one of the things she loved about him, even if it sometimes drove her crazy.
“It’s probably just some random act of kindness.” she said, trying to reassure him. “Or maybe it’s someone who knows us and is just being shy.”
Alexander sighed. “Maybe you’re right.” he said, though he still sounded unconvinced. “But I can’t help but wonder if there’s more to it than that. I mean, they obviously know us well enough to send us a gift like this. What if they’re trying to send us a message? Or what if they’re trying to interfere with our lives somehow?”
“You’re being paranoid.” she said, laughing. “It’s just a gift. Don’t read too much into it.”
“Maybe.” he said, but he still looked worried. “But I just don’t like the idea of someone out there who knows us and is keeping themselves hidden.”
“Well, whoever it is, I doubt they’re dangerous or have any malicious intent.” she said, trying to reassure him. “It’s probably just someone who wants to be nice and make us happy. That’s it. Nothing more than that.”
Alexander let out a breath, seeming to relax a little. “You’re probably right.” he said. “I’m just being paranoid.”
“I know you are.” she said, smiling. “You’re always overthinking things. But that’s just who you are, and I love you for it.”
He smiled back at her, a little sheepishly. “I love you, too.” he said.
Just then, his phone rings. He looked at the caller and realized that it was Jessie.
Then a thought crossed his mind.
“Could it be Jessie who sent the gift?” he asked himself as he looked at the phone ringing.
“She must be angry about me choosing Marissa over her and sent the gift to declare war.” he said to himself.
He took a deep breath and then picked the call.
