Chapter Fifteen
“Hey, where’s Peter?”
Amara greeted Matteo as she walked out of the bedroom in nothing but a very expensive-looking lingerie slip-on.
“You should cover yourself, ehmm… it’s cold. You could catch a cold.” Matteo said turning back to the kitchen and busied himself back to making coffee.
“Eh yeah, sorry I forgot that I have you as my chaperone.”
He could hear her light steps as she was getting back to her room. He couldn’t understand why her half-nakedness affected him so much. While he was usually surrounded by voluptuous strippers wearing less and leaving nothing for the imagination.
Amara was back with her leggings and oversize t-shirt and still, his dick stretched his slacks as her silhouette was shown from the morning light coming through the windows.
He cursed on the inside telling himself to get laid as soon as he could leave his post.
“Coffee?”
“Peter?” she was annoyed that he didn’t even answer her first question, yet told her to cover herself up.
She hasn’t even had her coffee yet. Walking to his side, she took her cup and poured it black, and drink it with almost half a cup of milk. She didn’t want it black anymore, it reminded her of Antonio.
“He went to the office with Paolo, he’s Peter’s watchdog as I am to you,” Matteo replied a bit too harshly as he was feeling the unwanted tension below his belt.
Not now big boy. Focus.
Chicks. Stripers. Fuck.
She’s not for you.
Need to jerk off.
Matteo straightens his thoughts and tries to get his dick from saluting the beautiful woman in front of him.
“Okay.” That was all Amara said then she was taking her coffee to the back porch.
The mountain safe house has a beautiful backyard view and is safe from predators. But he still keeps an eye on her, knowing that anything could happen.
She was calling Peter on her phone, he could hear her annoyed tone as she was asking her assistant to get her a laptop. And telling him that she needed to work, and continue with her life. Matteo could feel her frustration but he silently cursed when in a fraction of a second he could see a flick of light, a reflection of a shiny object deep in the woods across the back porch.
He was out the door and covered her body and quickly dragged her back into the house. But not quick enough as the bullet grazed his upper arm. He clenched his jaw and drowned the stinging pain trying not to let out any sound as he has to be alert of his surrounding.
“Quickly, go behind the counter. Now! I’ll cover for you.” He whispered urgently in her ear.
He was still shielding her with his body when he directed her to the kitchen counter. He covered for her until she was safe then go back out and try to see and if he was lucky enough to fire back at the shooter.
But the gunman was no longer there, it was a professional hit. Not a successful one but the aim was spot on, he wouldn’t miss it if Matteo didn’t see the reflection.
“We need to get out of here! come on, just leave everything behind, Paolo will get them later.”
But Amara was still in shock, and couldn’t stop looking at Matteo’s blue shirt that was stained with his blood. Matteo looked at her as she was not moving and kept on staring at his wound.
“I’m okay, I’ll be okay. But we need to go now!”
He startled her and she finally got up and walk alongside him to his car.
“Paolo I’m hit. I’m going back to my place and get Peter to mine, then secure the safehouse and bring her stuff to us afterward. I’ll be waiting for instructions on how Leo wants us to proceed. I’ll get one of the guys to meet you there.”
It was two hours later that they finally reached his place, by then Amara was over the top annoyed that he didn’t listen to anything she said.
“Look, I appreciate your concern but this is nothing.” But he winced when he opens the elevator door for them, it was an old pulled-up steel enforced door that would make a loud sound every time someone entered his place.
It opened right to his spacious living room. His place was one of those lofts bachelor pads complete with the high ceiling for the rugged warehouse feel. But the difference, he was living in the warehousing area on one of Leo’s properties. He liked the solitary, hence he’s socially awkward to others.
“Make yourself at home.” He throws his keys and takes off his shirt, he clenched his jaw when the blood had partially dry and made the shirt glued to his skin.
“Here let me help you.”
“It’s okay I got it…”
But Amara already wet the kitchen towel and push the cloth to dampen his wound, separating his shirt from his upper arm then slowly managed to slip it out of his body. Matteo sighed in relief, but it didn’t last long when he saw the woman in front of him shed her tears.
“I’m so sorry, it’s all my fault.” She wiped her tears trying to be strong, she hated the fact that she was crying so much lately.
“Look, can you not cry? I’m not comfortable with a woman crying…” he proved his words by not so gently tapping her back trying to comfort her.
Okay, what you all need to know about our Matteo is that he’s a big brute, a gentle giant who doesn’t do well with social interaction. This comforting act that he was trying to implement on our Amara made her finally laugh.
And she couldn’t stop laughing until he looked at her worriedly, which only made her laugh even more.

“Eh… me getting shot? you’re welcome?”
She laughed again when he looked at her and actually touches her forehead with the back of his palm.
But then she was crying again when she saw his wound was still exerting blood.
“Okay, you need to stop doing this. I’m worried. Let me call Leo and ask him.” He pulled out his phone but then she told him to call a doctor instead.
“I’m okay I just need to clean this and patch it up. Just a graze, won’t need stitches.” He went to the kitchen sink and put his arm under the running water.
“But you could get infected, it’s tap water you need disinfectant too, where’s your first aid kit?” she was determined to assist him making him let out his breath knowing that she would only slow him down.
She works on his wound and finishes it off by putting three large bandaids over his wound. He smirked looking at her messy work, obviously, she was not the nursing type.
“What?” she squinted her eye looking at him.
“Nope, nothing. Thank you.”
“No, what is it?”
“Well, you can’t even see the wound that’s good. Just stay with your day job.”
She was bitting her lip inspecting the wound a bit too close, he could smell her soft sweet floral scent and it was making him want to pull her close and have his way with her.
“This is my best work yet, you’re mocking me.” She pouted and leave him by the kitchen sink while she took a look around his place.
He was looking at her, his mind was telling him not to go near Antonio’s woman. Even if he’s dead she was still his woman and she was his loved one and he needed to respect him, respect his dead friend.
Crap!
