It had been an hour since they left the office.
Noticing Carrie staring at her with a conflicted expression, Madelyn smiled and asked, "Why are you looking at me?"
"Are you in need of money?"
The question had been nagging at Carrie ever since Madelyn's conversation about money with Jackson.
After all, Carrie knew Madelyn was married to the wealthy Miller family's heir.
The designer outfit she sported was undoubtedly a custom creation by Andrew himself, likely crafted by the world's premier fashion house. The watch that Madelyn was wearing cost millions of dollars. So, why was she discussing money with Jackson earlier?ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
Madelyn looked at Carrie with a hint of amusement. "Just because I'm not strapped for cash doesn't mean I shouldn't
ask for it," she countered.
"You asked for two million dollars."
Although two million dollars was insignificant to Madelyn, it felt like a blatant exploitation for a simple defense system upgrade.
"Jackson is rich. It'll be a waste not to get money from him. I'm hungry, so let's grab a bite."
"It will be your treat!"
Carrie hurried to catch up with Madelyn. The latter shot her a withering glance but said nothing. Carrie smiled. "I got you a huge deal that had netted you two million dollars in just an hour!"
Madelyn scoffed. "That's thanks to my skills!"
Carrie nodded, teasing her as she drove. "Luckily, you're a full-time housewife. With your skills, you could put many people out of business."
Madelyn's stomach growled ferociously, leaving her with no energy to respond to Carrie.
Just then, Madelyn received a call from Andrew. "Have you reached Lotivale?" she asked.
"I've just arrived. David said you left the house without having breakfast."
"Carrie needed my help with an urgent matter, so I just came out to grab a quick bite. Don't worry about me."
Hearing Madelyn's soft-spoken tone, Carrie instinctively looked at her. There was no trace of her sternness in the control room earlier. She had completely transformed into a docile woman. Carrie wondered if Andrew knew about Madelyn's skills.
After hanging up the call, Madelyn glanced at Carrie and said, "Why are you looking at me?"
"I remember you studied architecture in school, so how do you
know these things?"
If it weren't for Madelyn helping her update her computer system earlier, Carrie wouldn't have known she was a computer whiz.
Madelyn paused for a moment and shook her head. "I don't know, either.
"What?" Carrie stared at her in disbelief. Her answer would surely infuriate the experts in the control room earlier. Madelyn answered seriously, "I really don't know. I didn't learn a lot of things, but somehow I just know how to do them."
"You're a genius!" Or rather, a gifted individual. It was rare to find such talent, and not everyone could even try to achieve it.
Madelyn gave Carrie a sidelong glance. Finally, they arrived at a Crelean restaurant that Carrie had chosen. She had promised breakfast, but they ended up there for lunch instead.
"Order whatever you like. It's on Mr. Sinclair."
Earlier, Jackson had sent a generous sum, insisting that Carrie treat Madelyn to a good meal. Carrie couldn't help but think about how his initial attitude toward Madelyn in the control room had changed so drar Madelyn raised an eyebrow. "Well, I won't hold back, then."
As they were ordering, Carrie placed a glass of water in front of Madelyn and said, "Stella went back to the Jimenez residence last night. I've no idea what's up with her."
Madelyn paused, her hand hovering over the menu. She hadn't
expected Stella to listen and head back.
In this life, she hadn't gone to Felasko as planned. So, the tragedy that happened to her in her previous life should be avoided, right?
Thinking of the past, Madelyn's face paled slightly. She looked
at Carrie seated across and said, "Jackson's mother should be coming back next month."
