Chapter 224
Chapter 224
Cordelia needed a leave slip to leave, but it was too late to contact Waldron. Recalling the spot where Everard had just leapt from, she quickly got out of bed and headed for the door. She briefly told Daisy and the others, “I might not be back tonight, don't wait up for me.”
She sprinted to the school's vicinity and took a couple of steps back. The two-meter-high wall was a bit of a challenge for her. Summoning her strength, she jumped onto the wall, flipped over with ease, and leaped down.
To her surprise, she landed in a familiar embrace. Startled for a moment, she saw Everard holding her, chuckling, "What's this? Couldn't bear to leave me, so you decided to throw yourself into my arms?"
Cordelia pushed him away, landing on her feet, "No, it's Little Flame; something's happened to him. I need to check on him."
Little Flame must be Yates. Hearing the trouble Yates was in, Everard's expression darkened, thinking about the Griffin family's situation, he followed Cordelia, "I'm coming with you."
As they walked a bit further, Cordelia realized it was hard to hail a cab due to the school's secluded location. While contemplating ordering a ride on her phone, Everard dashed to a parked Land Rover on the roadside.
The vehicle was imposing in black, looking both large and formidable. Cordelia, not knowing much about cars, simply got in with Everard, and after she provided the hospital's address, Everard drove off swiftly.
They quickly arrived at Ontoky City Hospital. Once out of the car, Cordelia rushed inside, finding Merry pacing anxiously outside the operating room. Cordelia, unusually hurried, approached and asked, "What happened?"
Merry was on the verge of tears, "Oh, Lia, it's Yates... Yates tried to kill himself!"
Cordelia was stunned, "What?"
Merry sobbed, "He vomited a lot of blood, and he took so many pills, such strange pills...”
Her crying intensified, leaving Cordelia more confused. Everard made a call, and soon, hospital officials rushed into the operating room.
After the officials went in to attend to Yates, Everard turned to the inconsolable Merry, "Calm down and tell us everything from the start."
Merry nodded, choking back tears, "I went to class today, and when I got home to have dinner, Yates messaged me asking if I was free to come to his hotel."
Cordelia was puzzled, "He didn't leave?"
Merry nodded, "I went to the hotel address he gave, but no one answered the doorbell. So, I called him, and I heard his phone ring inside. I quickly asked the hotel staff to open the door, and there, I found several bottles of pills on Yates's table, along with alcohol. I've heard that drinking alcohol with sleeping pills makes them work faster... By then, Yates was unconscious, lying in bed, vomiting blood... I immediately called 911 and had him brought here."
Cordelia was in shock, "Why would Little Flame do this? Was someone bullying him?”
As she spoke, an intense aura of fury enveloped her, as if ready to confront anyone responsible. Merry shook her head, "I don't know. The way they rushed Yates into surgery didn't sound good. I'm so worried."
Cordelia frowned, then grabbed her phone, "It must be because of that Gamer." She immediately called Floyd.
Floyd answered cheerfully, "Lia, calling for a game?"Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Cordelia cut straight to the chase, "Little Flame tried to kill himself. He's in the hospital."
There was a pause before Floyd responded, "Are you joking? Why would he do that?"
Cordelia remained silent, conveying the gravity of the situation. Realizing the seriousness, Floyd urgently asked, "Which hospital?"
After Cordelia gave him the details, she hung up. Twenty minutes later, Floyd arrived footsteps echoing urgently. Seeing him, Cordelia was livid. Little Flame was fine back in Greenmeadow, so why would he attempt suicide now? It had to be something Floyd did. Cordelia grabbed him by the collar, her strength pinning Floyd against the wall, "What did you do to Little Flame?"
Floyd frowned, "He wouldn't... he couldn't have..."
Merry interjected, "What's impossible? What did you do to Yates to drive him to this? He only came to Ontoky City for you. You could've easily invited him to join your team as a shooter, and he would've accepted. Why didn't you?"
Floyd sighed, a mix of frustration and resignation in his eyes, "I couldn't let him join."
He didn't explain further. Everard, trying to calm the situation, gently patted Cordelia's back and asked Floyd, "Did he come to see you today?"
Floyd nodded, his eyes filled with regret. Today, Yates had gone to the club, contacting the person in charge directly, offering to play as a shooter. The club, desperate for a good shooter, was ready to sign him immediately.
But when Floyd saw Yates, with his distinctive red hair, about to sign the contract, he stormed into the room and stopped it. He wasn't an

sustaining its operations came from his deep pockets. There was that moment when Yates threw down the gauntlet, boasting with all the bravado of a high roller, "Money's no object for me. Sign with me, and I'm talking a cool million in investment!"
The manager was notably tempted. That's when Floyd lost it, dropping a bombshell ultimatum, "You sign with him, and I'm outta here. Your call."
He was playing hardball, hoping to sway the manager to turn down the deal. But after those words left his mouth, Yates's eyes turned a fiery red,
burning with what looked like sheer fury. Floyd couldn't bring himself to meet that gaze...
And then, without waiting for the
manager to wrestle with his decision, Yates turned on his heel and left. In that moment, Floyd
knew. He'd burned bridges with
Yates he'd never be able to rebuild. What he hadn't expected was for Yates to retaliate in such a drastic way...
Just then, the doors to the operating room swung open, and a doctor with a stern face emerged, his brow furrowed in concern. "Who's family to the patient?"
They all rushed over in a panic. "I'm his brother!" Floyd's voice trembled, the weight of the moment pressing down on him. "How is he?"
The doctor let out a heavy sigh, "I'm sorry..."
