Chapter 556 That’s Your Business

The next day, Clarissa and Damien left the house at five in the morning. Neil was left in Mrs. Faber’s

care.

On their way to Florin, Clarissa kept yawning.

“We didn’t even do anything. Why are you so sleepy?” Damien said teasingly.

“Aren’t you?” she asked in return.

“I don’t need that much sleep now that I’m older,” he said sarcastically.

“I suppose that makes sense. You’re almost forty, after all. I bet you’re close to losing certain functions.”

“Yeah, I am. We used to have sex on a daily basis, but now, we can only do it on alternate days.”

Damien looked serious, but his tone was far from it. “You were the one who didn’t allow me to do

anything last night. Why are you complaining about it now?”

“I’m not complaining!” Clarissa sounded a little flustered. “I was referring to you losing sleep. It’s not as

salacious as you think!”

Damien didn’t say anything. He merely smiled.

It was a foggy day, and they couldn’t see any other people around. For safety reasons, he drove slowly.

Clarissa soon dozed off.

As they stopped at a red light, Damien turned to look at her. She was bundled up in her coat, and she

had pulled it over her head. They were almost like two forgotten wanderers traveling through the fog.

“It’s so foggy that I almost can’t even recognize you,” he said to her.

Clarissa knew that he was building up to something, so she didn’t say anything in return. She wrapped

the coat tighter around herself and slouched down onto her seat. She figured he would just say

whatever he wanted to say, anyway. Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

“I recognized you last night, but not today,” she muttered.

“Yeah, we only know each other when we’re naked. Once we have our clothes on, we’re complete

strangers.” The light turned green and the car started moving.

Clarissa was at a loss for words.

She didn’t say a single word to him before they got to Florin.

Damien dropped her off at the university before heading to Eden Investment Corporation for his

meeting.

During the meeting, Charles updated Damien on the progress of the Ashland project, saying that they

were about to start building the base. Then, he said hesitantly, “President Lawrence, the incident with

Chanel Kirk wanting to jump off of this building has really given me a terrible fright. You know that we in

real estate are terrified of such a thing happening… I asked around, and it turns out that it was because

Chanel and Clarissa had some sort of conflict. I’m afraid of it happening again, and that we might not

be so lucky the next time.”

He knocked on the table lightly, wanting to attract Damien’s attention.

Chanel had gotten what she had wanted.

Damien knew very well what she was trying to achieve.

“What do you intend to do?” he asked Charles.

“I’d like to get your opinion.”

“Have her leave Eden Investment.”

Charles’s eyes practically glowed at his words. He hadn’t expected Damien to be so blunt.

However, to prevent Damien from holding a grudge against him, he said, “Ashland is our baby, and we

can’t allow a time bomb like Chanel to ruin it, can we? I can arrange for Miss Johnson to go

somewhere better—after all, there’s no denying that she’s good at her job.”

He gave Damien a thumbs up.

“No, it’s fine. I’ll arrange something,” Damien said.

“Oh, then I won’t interfere. But in terms of letting her know about it…” Charles was hinting that he didn’t

feel comfortable telling Clarissa himself. He wanted Damien to help him.

“That’s your business.” Damien was unmoved.

“Yes, yes, you’re right. It’s my business.” Charles found this a little tough to handle. Clarissa was an

independent director, and he had reached out to her while she had still been studying in Lotharia. Now,

he was asking her to leave over something that only had a possibility of happening. It wasn’t the best

look.

It was better for things to be bad now than to be worse later, though. And so, Charles sent Clarissa a

WhatsApp message.

Charles: [Clarissa, due to a change in the company’s strategy, the board has decided to remove you

from the position of independent director. I hope you’ll understand.]
