Chapter 529 I Want to Tell You a Story

After breakfast, Clarissa washed the dishes. When she was done, she said to Neil, “Listen to your

Daddy, okay? I have to go back to the university to spend some time with my friend, and I’m busy with

classes. You and Daddy can come to the university to have lunch with me in the afternoon.”

“Okay. Bye, Mommy.”

After saying goodbye to Neil and Damien, Clarissa suddenly felt like a weight had been lifted from her

shoulders. After all, it had been four years since Theresa’s death. The hatred, resentment, and anger

she had felt at that time had faded with time. Though she still felt uncomfortable at Madelynn’s death

and Lucy’s imprisonment, Damien had told her that he had done it for her sake.

In truth, it wasn’t really possible for her to move on from these things, but she wanted to give it a shot.

She wanted to find an excuse for Damien and for her feelings for him.

The moment she got to the paved path before Marble Garden, an elderly person stopped her.

He looked to be in his sixties or seventies, and his hair had turned white. He wore glasses and an

expensive-looking wool overcoat. He looked like a respected lecturer, but Clarissa was sure she had

never seen him before.

She didn’t think much of it, since there were plenty of people that she didn’t know at the university.

However, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of affection for elderly people. Perhaps it was because of

Grandpa Lawrence.

She wanted to walk past him and didn’t notice that he was staring at her.

His gaze was probing, curious, and admiring.

“Miss Clarissa Johnson?” Just as Clarissa walked past him, he called out to her.

“Huh? Do you know me?” She turned to face him. Perhaps it was because she and Damien had made

up as well as the good impression she had of the old man. She smiled at him.

“Do you have some time to spare? I’d like to talk to you about something,” he said.

“Me?” She pointed at herself. She was sure she didn’t know him.

“Yes.”

“Let’s go…” Clarissa wanted to say that he could come to her place because it was more of an office

than anything else, but she didn’t know who he was. What if she happened to cause trouble for

herself? “Let’s go to one of the restaurants at the university. There won’t be many people there at this

hour, and we can get a private room.”

“Sure.”

The restaurants at the University of Florin were of good quality and had a lot of excellent reviews. A lot

of couples that weren’t from the university wanted to have dates there, but it was almost always fully

booked, thanks to the students at the university.

It wasn’t even noon yet, so there weren’t many people at the restaurant.

The waiter knew Clarissa was a lecturer at the university, so he gave her a milkshake and the old man

a warm glass of milk before they even ordered anything.

The old man smiled as he held the glass of milk. “It looks like you’re pretty popular, Miss Johnson.”

“No, no. This is just a little perk for the university’s staff.” Clarissa smiled.

She ordered herself a fruit salad and the old man a pizza. She had just finished breakfast, so she

wasn’t hungry yet.

The old man said, “I want to tell you a story.”

“What? A story?” She found this odd, but she was also curious. She was quite sure she had never met All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

this old man before, so she didn’t know what sort of story he wanted to tell her.

“Yes. You can think of it as a story, at least.”

“I’m all ears.” She stirred her milkshake.
