Chapter 78 – Surprised by Cayden.
Lily
When he told me that, I was a little bit shocked and surprised because I was wondering why he was suddenly outside my house and for what reason?
After giving me the cold shoulders yesterday?
“I know you’re lying, Cayden.” I tried sounding like I wasn’t bothered by what he said, but it didn’t work. I could hear my voice shake a little over the phone and I placed my hand over my mouth.
“I’m not. You should come out and confirm, don’t you think?” He sounded so sure, but I still wasn’t ready to fall for his tricks.
“Don’t you think it’s too early to play pranks, Cayden? It’s way too early. I’ll cut the call now.” I threatened, even if I knew that I wasn’t going to do that. I love the way his morning voice sounded in my ears.
“Just come out, Lily. Do that without arguing.”
He sounded like he wasn’t playing pranks at all and I reluctantly got off the bed. I decided to go and confirm myself to see if he was just playing a prank on me or not.
“Okay, Romeo. I’m coming.” I teased and I went to the living room. I tried brushing my hair with my hair, but I stopped when I saw that it was of no use.
I quietly opened the door and I stretched my head to confirm.
Yes, he was lying at all. He was sitting there in his car comfortably, while looking at me with his phone against his ear.
Our eyes met and for a second, the both of us couldn’t do anything, but stare at each other.
Cayden cleared his throat loudly over the phone and he started laughing. I hissed and closed the door.
I decided to check my body to see if there was anything wrong with what I was wearing. There wasn’t. Or was it because of the fact that I looked terrible? Oh, Cayden!
“Why are you still laughing? What’s funny?” I said with a really stern tone. I wasn’t comfortable with the way he was staring at me and laughing at the same time.
“Nothing. It’s the way you were staying at me like you were seeing me for the first time. Am I that.. pleasing to look at, huh?” I could tell that he was teasing me, but I was still smiling. I loved how carefree and funny he could be sometimes. Sometimes!
“You were also starring, Romeo.” I teased him back. I didn’t know why I was calling him Romeo, it just felt right, like the name was made for him.
“So, are you inviting me in or what? Or you could come outside instead.”
It was too early for him to come inside. Jacek and granny were still even in bed and inviting him in would look somehow. I couldn’t go out to meet him either. I just got out of bed and my hair was still really messy.
I started thinking about excuses to give him and I finally settled for one.
“I can’t come outside and you can’t come in either. Jacek is still in bed. Granny too.”
“Oh, really?” He said and I could feel him raising his eyebrows at me over the phone.
“Yes, so I think you should turn back now. I can’t get Jacek out of the bed now.” I was sure that after the excuse I gave him, he was going to turn back and leave immediately.
“Well, I think I know what to do.”
“Good. I’ll see you later. You could come some other time.” I was about to put my phone down, but he spoke again.
“Oh, I’m not leaving. I’m going to wait.” He didn’t sound defeated at all.
“What do you mean? Wait for what?” I knew the answer to that, but I didn’t want to hear it.
“Wait for Jacek to wake up and get ready. You too. I’ll wait for you.” The last part of his sentence sounded.. more intimate than I wanted to admit and I smiled at it. I didn’t know why that particular ‘I’ll wait for you’ sounded so intimate and.. nice to hear, but I liked it.
“You shouldn’t…wait for me. Just go. You shouldn’t waste your time.”
“I’m not complaining.” He said and the line went dead. I dropped the phone from my ear and I sighed. Cayden is a hard nut to crack and he could be annoying.. sometimes.
I peeped through the window and just like he said, he didn’t make the move to even leave. I sighed again and I decided to waste his time, so by the time Jacek and I were through, he would have gone.
I went to make breakfast and I took more time than I ought to. I wanted to waste his time properly.
An hour later, I went to wake Jacek to get him ready, which took thirty minutes to finish.
After Jacek was done, I served him breakfast and I decided to get ready too.
Three hours and thirty minutes later, we were finally through and I was happy that Cayden was gone.
Before I went to have my bath, I peeped through the window to see if he was still there and he wasn’t. Now that I’m checking the window again, he isn’t there.
I smiled to myself because I was happy that my brilliant plan actually worked.
Jacek and I were ready to go and I bid grandmother goodbye before I opened the door.
We hadn’t taken up to three steps, when we heard someone calling us from behind.
“You were leaving without me, Juliet?” Cayden teased me and I turned back to see him giving me a mocking smile.
He did it, he called me Juliet because I had called him Romeo earlier. I hid the smile that was threatening to break through my lips.
“You’re still here?” Yes, he really was. He had packed his car somewhere else to deceive me.
Jacek left my hand and he ran towards Cayden. Cayden bent down and opened his hands widely to welcome him.
“You didn’t think I was going to leave, did you?”
As a matter of fact, I did. I thought he was going to leave.Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.
