CHAPTER TWENTY NINE

Serena froze, staring at him as he drove. She had no idea what to say and he gave her no reprieve by asking more questions, merely kept his eyes on the road much to her dismay.

“We are here.” Damon said jolting Serena from her thoughts.

“Damon listen, I did not know how to tell you…” she began.

“I know you have a reason why you decided to keep it from and I am fine with it.” He interrupted, leaving her staring at him.

She followed after him, staring at his rigid back… he was angry, she knew and he was also trying so hard to not turn his rage on her.

“We need to talk.” Serena grabbed his arm before they got into the warehouse.

“What about?”

He wasn’t looking at her which Serena found bothered her a lot.

“I am sorry” she began. When she found out that he wasn’t going to respond, she continued.

“I am sorry and I know I should have told you immediately, I freaked out.”

“You freaked out” he echoed, turning to look at her.

“Yes, my father… he said you were going to kill him.”

“After I reassured you that if he revealed the location of the drugs, I would let him go.”

“Yes, about that… he has no idea where it is.” Serena said, watching his face, there was no expression.”

“What do mean by he has no idea where the drugs are.”

“He told me he sold it to some people, unknown people and he has no idea where they are right now. I am so sorry, Damon… I wanted to tell you but he said that if you had an inkling that he has no idea where the drugs are that he wouldn’t be useful to you and you will kill him.”

Damon did not speak for a while and Serena thought maybe she had finally sentenced her father to death.

“He’s lying” he finally spoke up.

“Excuse me?” Serena asked confused.

“Your father is lying, Serena. He knows exactly where the drugs are, now I would really love to know why he is protecting his partners so much.”

“Did you hear nothing of what I said?”

“I heard you Serena and I believe your father is aware that you would inform me of this unfortunate turn of events, I believe he is counting you informing me so I can look elsewhere.”

“I don’t understand you, what are you saying?”

“I will explain later but when we get in there, I would threaten your father with your mother’s life and you are to be by the corner, roughly manhandled by one of my persons. We shall see if he speaks or not.”

“You want me to be manhandled?”

“I want you to be an actress, mia dolcezza. We are about to find out if your father speaks or not.” He smiled and Serena felt it to the pits of her belly.

Serena walked into the warehouse ahead of Damon who followed in after he finished speaking to one of his boys, his job was to pretend to hold Serena roughly by the corner by he confronted her father.

Serena was surprised at how well she was acting as she watched Damon threaten her father, she could see his face crack and before long he was in tears, much to her amazement.

“Where are my fucking drugs.” Damon bellowed.

“The fabrizios have it, they promised to help my family and I only if I stole drugs from you, the matteos.” He confessed.

The Fabrizios were a rival mafia gang and had long since been enemies of Damon’s family but they had never crossed the boundaries of each other’s businesses. Damon wondered why they had decided to seek war from his family.

“Please spare me, I promise I would give you the location of the drugs. Spare my wife.”

“I have no plans to harm your family, I am married to your daughter and you might not believe this but I am a man of honor. I just have one question, If you were in this much financial debt, why did you not come to us.”

“I barely paid the debt I owe your father, I don’t think he would be happy that I want to borrow another.”

“Instead you stole from us, do you have absolutely no idea what you have just done? There is going to be war and it would be totally your fault.”

Serena could hear them quite alright and she was crushed, her father had lied to her concerning not knowing where the drugs were. Damon had been right and felt like an utter fool, she decided to wait for him in the car because she could not bear to look at her father.

“Release him” she heard Damon say just before she slipped out to the warehouse and straight to the car.

It was some minutes before Damon joined her in the car, they said nothing to each other for some time.

“You have nothing to apologize for, you just protected your family is all.”

“So what happens now?”

“War” Damon said grimly.

He had to call his father and inform him of the recent developments, if the Fabrizio indeed stole the drugs, they were prepared for whatever scenario and they needed to be prepared too. He tapped his fingers silently as he drove back to their house, a glance at Serena told him she was lost in thought.

If only she knew that he would never allow any harm come to her and he would rather die first.
