Chapter 1017: Brandon’s Engagement
Back at home, Jared tidied up the dishes on the table and prepared a bowl of sweet porridge before heading to the bedroom.
Tina caught the scent and asked curiously, "Uncle, what did you make? Why does it smell like strawberries?"
Jared handed her the bowl, letting her take a look.
Tina chuckled when she saw the porridge topped with a layer of strawberries. "How did you come up with this?"
Jared smiled at her. "If I didn't add something you like, were you planning to starve yourself and the little one?"
With her favorite strawberries, Tina had no trouble finishing the porridge.
After wiping her mouth with a tissue, she turned to Jared. "Uncle, what did they say when you went over today?"
Jared took the empty bowl from her hands. "They told us not to rush. With someone like Claudia, pressing too hard might backfire. It's better to observe for a while and wait for the right moment to catch her."
Tina fell silent.
But she had a feeling Claudia wouldn't give up so easily. With ambitions as vast as hers, Claudia would seize any opportunity, no matter how small. When she struck again, it would be even more vicious.
Taking the chance, Tina updated Jared on the situation with the Swanson family. Jared's expression darkened, and he agreed with her assessment. "Given Claudia's ambitions, that small thing wouldn't be her main focus."
"Still, before handing it over to them, it might be worth letting Master take a look." Tina raised an eyebrow. "Do you think there's something wrong with it?"
Jared pressed his lips together. "Master has been investigating Claudia's background. He might recognize something."
Tina nodded. Master wasn't with the Brookes family at the moment, but they could have Jayden take photos of the items and send them to him for review.
Coincidentally, Tina was planning to interrogate Orion Woodwind the next day. If there were any unexpected discoveries, she could pass the information along to Master.
Tina was about call Jayden to arrange things wher ared placed a hand over hers. "No rush. On my way back, Brandon called. He said your parents left the country, and he's in a panic."
Tina froze. "My parents went abroad?"
Jared nodded. "It seems they left on a whim and didn't tell anyone."
Tina frowned. "What does Brandon need them for?"
Before Jared could answer, Tina's phone rang. It was Brandon himself.
Jared signaled with his eyes and left the room, carrying the bowl.noveldrama
Brandon's voice was fraught with urgency. "Tina, you've got to back me up here. I understand your parents wanting some alone time, but did they have to disappear now? I've been practically living at the Warren family's doorstep trying to get things sorted, and they just turn off their phones!"
Tina felt a headache coming on. "Brandon, get to the point."
Brandon took a deep breath. "Angela said that whether it's an engagement or a wedding, Alina has to be present. If she's not, Angela won't show up either."
Tina was speechless.
So, Brandon had successfully proposed?
His voice was hoarse with anxiety. "I can't reach them, Tina. The hotel is already pressing me for answers. If I can't find them, all the effort I've put in this past month will be wasted. Angela's traveling for work soon, and there's no time left!"
Tina could tell this was a one-man operation. Brandon was handling everything by himself.
She sighed, rubbing her forehead. "Brandon, why don't you postpone the engagement for a few days until my parents-"
"No way!" Brandon interrupted firmly. "I've waited so long for this, and you know it. If Angela gets upset and changes her mind, where am I supposed to cry? Just three days, Tina. Get them back in time for my engagement, or I'll show up at the Warren family every day to cause a scene."
Tina was at a loss for words.
Knowing Brandon's personality, he would absolutely follow through on his threat. If that happened, both the Warren and Brookes families would become the talk of the town.
Faced with this situation, Tina had no choice. If she rejected him outright, she could already imagine the chaos Brandon would unleash.
"I'll try to contact them, but don't get your hopes up too high. You know what my mom's like."
Tina knew her mother well. If she didn't want to be found, no one could track her down-not even the Brookes family's resources.
After hanging up, Tina leaned back, massaging her temples.
Jared walked in just as she ended the call. "What's wrong?"
Tina exhaled. "Brandon's getting engaged, and he insists my mom has to be there."
She had tried calling both of her parents, but their phones were off.
Jared chuckled softly. "What a coincidence. Hayden sent me some 'good news' too." Tina looked up. "He's getting engaged too?"
Jared smirked ambiguously. "The day after tomorrow. Hayden said they wouldn't start the engagement banquet unless you were there."
Tina's lips twitched.
Hayden was quick, but now she was stuck. What was she supposed to do? One person wanted her to find her parents, while the other demanded her presence. Did they think she could be in two places at once?
Jared placed his hands on her temples, gently massaging. "I'll handle finding your parents. It's not a big deal."
Tina wasn't doubting Uncle's abilities, but she knew her mother too well. "You know what my mom's like. If she doesn't want to be found, no one can find her."
Jared nodded. "I've never underestimated Master's abilities. But sometimes, looking at things from a different angle makes them easier to solve."
Tina looked at him curiously. "Uncle, what's your plan?"
Jared waved a finger at her. "Pregnant women shouldn't worry. Just rest."
Tina was speechless.
Uncle was becoming more cryptic by the day. But he wasn't wrong-his influence abroad wasn't any weaker than it was at home. Maybe he could find a lead on her parents.
The next day, Tina called Jayden and instructed him to photograph the items from the Swanson family and send her a copy.
Jayden agreed and added, "Young Master, the ashes of those two bodies were retrieved yesterday. What should we do with them?"
Tina paused, postponing her plans to interrogate Orion Woodwind, and instructed
Jayden to select a burial site.
She then got into a car and headed to the Reed family.
It was nine in the morning, and only Jennie was home.
When Jennie saw Tina, her pale face brightened with a smile. "Tina, you're here. Come
in."
Tina looked at her but didn't enter. She spoke softly, "Jennie, we found her."
Jennie's expression shifted. She took a deep breath and said, "Tina, wait for me."
The car soon left the city and turned onto a mountain road, finally stopping at the foot of a hill.
This was the capital's most prestigious cemetery.
Tina got out to help Jennie, but Jennie shook her head. "Tina, I'm fine."
Nathan also got out of the car, following a few steps behind Tina.
Jared had instructed him to stay close to Tina at all times to ensure her safety.
Even without Jared's orders, Nathan had already noticed something unusual.
Recently, there had been dozens of unfamiliar presences in the area. They posed no immediate threat, but they only appeared when Tina was around.
What do you think?
