Chapter 1417
However, in doing so, the corporation would be finished, and as the chairman of the corporation, Lindon could not allow that to happen.
After a brief pause, Lindon spoke in a deep voice, "Gentlemen, give us some time to consider this. Also, please negotiate with the court again; the bail amount is just
too high."
"Moreover, we need to meet with Jaden and Connor as soon as possible," Carlson said.
Sergey nodded, saying, "We'll do our best, but according to the laws here, you might not be able to see them until after the trial."
After saying this, the two stood up and walked towards the exit. Lindon gestured for Carlson to see them off.
Once he saw the two out, Carlson returned and plopped down on the sofa, exclaiming, "What's with this nonsense? Asking for fifty billion straight up, do they think we're running a money press?"
Meanwhile, Lindon began pacing back and forth in the living room, frowning in silence.
After a while, Carlson sighed and said, "Stop pacing around, it's giving me a headache."
"They've been set up," Lindon muttered to himself, ignoring Carlson's remark.
Upon hearing this, both Carlson and Elise stood up, looking at Lindon.
Continuing to pace, Lindon said, "I warned them that things aren't as easy here without connections, but they wouldn't listen. They were too eager to prove themselves."
"Don't blame the kids at this point. Just tell us what's going on," Carlson urged anxiously.
With a grunt, Lindon said, "That gold mine? They never intended to give it to them in the first place. Arresting them was just to make them back off."
"Well, let them back off then. If they don't want the gold mine, then so be it. Let them release our people," Carlson said, his voice filled with frustration.
Glancing at him, Lindon furrowed his brow. "It's not that simple. Without being stripped down to the bone, we might find it hard to get them back."
"What do we do then? We can't come up with five billion," Carlson said.
Lindon looked at his daughter, Elise, and said slowly, "You mentioned visiting Earl Hans, and you even gave gifts and money, didn't you?"
"Yes, I went along as well. The Earl seemed like a decent person. My brother mentioned he's influential in Morburn," Elise quickly interjected.
Carlson, upon hearing this, immediately suggested, "Lindon, why don't we try finding this Earl fellow, offer him some money, and see if he can help get Connor and Jaden out? Then we can leave this godforsaken place."
"Only the person who tied the bell can untie it. It's a good idea to seek his help," Lindon nodded and said.
Carlson urged, "Then let's hurry up and go."
Lindon shot him a glare. "It's nighttime now. Without an appointment, it's extremely rude. That's not the right approach when asking for someone's help."
Carlson slumped on the sofa and began smoking.
Lindon continued pacing, murmuring to himself, "I suspect Earl Hans might be involved in this matter too."
"What are you saying?" Carlson and Elise exclaimed in disbelief, mouths agape.
Lindon glanced at them and said slowly, "It's just a guess. When a big opportunity presents itself, anyone would be tempted to take advantage. If Connor and the others end up in prison and Hans is involved, it'll be even more troublesome."
"What should we do then?" Elise looked anxious.noveldrama
Lindon furrowed his brow. "Don't panic. Let's pretend we know nothing. Tomorrow, we'll visit Hans, assess the situation, and then decide our next move. Right now, we can only take it step by step."
Carlson nodded helplessly, but then Elise suddenly spoke up, "Father, do you remember the number I called you from?"
"It was an unfamiliar number. Why?" Lindon asked.
"That person's name is Wilbur, also from Dasha. He told me if we need help, we can find him. He lives here too," Elise explained.
What do you think?
