Chapter 89 Quota

After the press conference, Maggie has yet to reach out to Nathael again.

Unsurprisingly, Nathael did not reach out to her either.

For the past two weeks, she has been busy with her graduation project at school. Simultaneously, she took on a few design drafts, hoping to keep herself occupied and avoid overthinking.

Today marked the final day before the first phase of the project defense,

After receiving a call from her advisor, Maggie returned to school carly and went straight to the teacher’s office.

“Maggic, you’re here. Please take a seat.”

Laura Foster, Maggie’s advisor, is a middle–aged woman in her forties. She typically appeared somewhat stern and old– fashioned, often sporting black–framed glasses and keeping her hair up in a bun. She didn’t wear much makeup and exuded a scholarly demeanor that could be difficult to approach.

However, Maggie knew that her advisor was a very kind person, especially fond of hardworking and diligent students. Of course, she always found it difficult to maintain a pleasant demeanor towards students who wasted their time and showed no ambition.

Having lived two lifetimes, her advisor had always shown favoritism towards her. In her previous life, she had served the Camerons. Her advisor had advised her numerous times to plan for herself, to seek out a stage suitable for achieving great things rather than being confined to the narrow boundaries of the Camerons, bound by gratitude.

But at that time, she was still young. She could not comprehend the Camerons‘ intentions of using gratitude for personal gain, nor could she discern its hidden motives.

“Ms T gently.

how have you been feeling lately?” Maggie accepted the water offered by Laura and inquired

Laura’s serious expression softened into a smile. “Just the usual, nothing serious. I called you here mainly to discuss the exchange program to Yatria. You must have heard about it already, right?”

Maggie nodded, recalling the information.

If it weren’t for this opportunity, Vanessa probably wouldn’t have gone to such lengths to frame her with a fake bracelet last time.

She had done it all for this chance.

“The department originally secured two slots, but after one was allocated to landscape design, we’re left with only one. I plan to negotiate with the department leaders to secure another slot for you. What do you

think?”

Maggie nodded and replied, “Having this opportunity is something I can’t miss. I’ve heard that the architectural design in Yatria has a unique historical background and style. Moreover, designers in Yatria are known to be more daring in their ideas, and many famous design manuscripts from the Renaissance period are still influential today….

with Laura.

In her previous life, she had given this opportunity to Vanessa. Still, in this life, she truly desired to go and explore.

Having lost her sight, she realized how much she had missed out on. Now, with everything starting anew, she genuinely wanted to venture out, experience diverse customs and cultures, and witness various designs and architectural styles.

Laura always held a soft spot for Maggie. Following a pleasant chat, she smiled and said, “All right. I will do my best to help you secure it’

“Thank you, Ms. Foster.”

Laura gazed at Maggie, hesitant to speak but unable to hold back. “Vanessa is also vying for this opportunity. She’s quite complex and not entirely sincere. I advise you to be cautious in your future. interactions with her.”

Laura was aware of the bracelet incident from last time, so she had suspicions.

Maggie nodded and responded gently, “Please don’t worry. Everything will be fine with me as long as you’re in good health.”

Under intense pressure to meet deadlines, Laura developed cervical compression. She had fainted twice in class before, causing significant concern.

“I got it. Though my health isn’t as robust as before, I haven’t turned into an old fossil yet. I will look after myself.” Content held by NôvelDrama.Org.

After leaving the office, Maggie hadn’t gone far before encountering Vanessa.

Vanese was dressed in a light blue suit, exuding a delicate and fresh style that suited her well. Upon seeing Mas

couldn’t resist warmly greeting her,

“Hey, Maggie,” she said, approaching affectionately.

Maggie evaded her attempt to hold her hand and smiled sarcastically. “You seem to enjoy pretending to be so close despite harboring such strong resentment. Doesn’t it bother you?”

Vanessa’s smile faltered momentarily, then she withdrew her hand and said with a smile, “At the last press conference, Joseph mentioned that you were planning to accuse Nathael, but then changed your mind. Was Joseph upset?”

Maggie chuckled lightly, her eyes scanning the elegantly dressed woman before her as she softly remarked, “Hasn’t your Joseph informed you? He said that regardless of my decision, he would always support me.”

Those words caused a slight change in Vanessa’s expression, but she tried to maintain her composure. “Given our past relationship, Maggie, I suggest you not provoke Nathael. Associating with him is unwise and definitely not in our best interest.”

Maggie gazed directly at her with dark eyes, a hint of mockery playing on her lips as she remained silent.

Vanessa continued, “The Camerons are looking out for themselves in this situation, but there’s nothing to gain for you.”

At this rate, Maggie couldn’t help but laugh, her gaze towards Vanessa was filled with meaning.

In the past, she might have interpreted Vanessa’s words as genuine concern–a few kind words. But now, viewing it from a different perspective, she finally understood.

Despite Vanessa’s alliance with Joseph, her true fear lay in Maggie getting entangled with Nathael.

Thus, all the seemingly well–intentioned advice ultimately stemmed from Vanessa’s fear that Maggie might surpass her.

“Does Joseph know you’re speaking to me like this? I wonder how he’d react if he knew,” Maggie remarked casually.

Vanessa’s expression shifted, and she struggled to respond, “Maggie, I’m not joking. I’m speaking for the sake of our past relationship. If you don’t appreciate it, then so be it. There’s no need…”

“No need for what? No need to say much in front of Joseph?” Maggie interjected lightly, then added, “What kind of relationship did we have? I should thank you for taking such a jerk from my life. You’re so kind for sacrificing yourself for me.”

Maggie’s sarcasm further darkened Vanessa’s expression.

She hadn’t intended to sever ties so quickly, as there were still many ways she could benefit from Maggie.

It was just unexpected that, by some twist of fate, she ended up hearing her own words from back then.

Yet, it shouldn’t have come to this.

For some reason, Maggie was becoming increasingly difficult to deceive.

Despite feeling regretful, Vanessa was unwilling to continue trying to please someone who no longer served her interests. Once she realized that Maggie was no longer at her disposal, her demeanor grew

colder.

“Feel free to say what you want. Just remember, Joseph isn’t a jerk. Suppose he were to hear what you’re saying. In that case, he’d be quite disappointed, Vanessa spoke again, still maintaining a facade of innocence.
