Chapter 407
Elian's car sped down a deserted road, the world outside turning into a blur of trees and shadows. Since they entered this area, Miranda's sharp instincts kicked in, sensing the presence of surveillance cameras all around them. However, these weren't your typical city cameras. They were hidden, tucked away in the shadows, undetectable to the average passerby.
The car came to a halt in front of what appeared to be a nondescript apartment building. But as Miranda stepped closer, she realized there was more than met
the eye.
"Is this... a hologram?" she murmured, more to herself.noveldrama
It was Miranda's first visit to RapidForce, and she had never seen its true form. She'd only been given a location, but she trusted Elian to know the way, so she let him drive.
Elian raised an eyebrow, impressed. "You figured it out in one glance?"
Miranda nodded, her gaze steady. "Yeah."
A grin spread across Elian's face, pride glinting in his eyes. "The holographic projection here is incredibly lifelike. Over the years, almost no one has spotted it." Miranda simply shrugged. It did look real enough, but perhaps her instincts were just sharper than most, allowing her to see through the facade immediately.
Elian turned to her, "This is as far as I can take you. From here on, you're on your own. I'm not part of this department, so I can't go in. Systems and departments operate independently. If you trespass, you could end up in a military tribunal."
Despite knowing the general location of RapidForce, Elian had never been inside. The entire military system was like that; few people even knew this department existed, let alone what they did or who worked there. Miranda's involvement had given him a glimpse into this enigma.
Miranda nodded, stepped out of the car, and approached the building. There was a small screen by the door-a palm scanner. She placed her hand on it, and the unassuming building shattered like glass, revealing its true form: a sleek, futuristic structure encased in glass, like something out of a sci-fi movie, where reality and illusion blurred into one.
As Miranda stepped through the entrance, she vanished, the
building's illusion snapping back into place, indistinguishable from the ordinary apartment building it had appeared to be.
Outside, there was an additional layer of environmental camouflage, ensuring that
no one would accidentally stumble upon the site, and if they did, they'd be
promptly redirected.
Elian wasn't surprised. In the world of cutting-edge technology, it was always the elite-be it the military or RapidForce-who had access to the best. He knew RapidForce's Budget was astronomical. '
Just after Miranda disappeared inside, Elian's phone buzzed. It was a satellite call, with no apparent origin.
"Is this Mr. Ashcroft?" a voice inquired.
Elian gazed at the building, a smirk playing on his lips. "It is."
"I apologize for any inconvenience, Mr. Ashcroft. I'm ShadowFox, the department head. I'd like to extend a warm invitation for you to visit our department. Would that be O convenient for you?"
Elian's voice held a tinge of amused surprise. "So open? I've heard your department is quite the enigma, even the military can't get a hold of your records."
There was a brief pause, followed by a polite chuckle. "Mr. Ashcroft, you are different. Perhaps in the future, there will be opportunities for collaboration."
Elian arched an eyebrow, his gaze fixated on the building, his curiosity piqued.
Inside, Miranda found herself facing a large white door. As she advanced, it slid open automatically, welcoming her into the unknown.
What do you think?
