I had gone from my doctor’s appointment to the wedding dress shop. The doctor had said I wasn’t eating well so I was weak and I will have to see a dietician for that. Noah had worried about me and he said I should just cancel the gown appointment and go home but his mom. I had to leave a good first impression. Well, second impression or hell even third impression.
“Are you sure it’s a good idea to meet with Mrs. Grumpy there?” Cara said when we met at the lobby of the wedding dress shop.
“Do I have a choice?” I asked her giving her a serious face.
“Well, you could faint. I think she wouldn’t bother you again” Anika said putting in her own advice.
“Nika you mean to pretend to faint right?” Anita said.
“If I faint and Noah hears he will be worried,” I tell them casually.
“And for some strange reason, you don’t want him to worry” Leah piped in with raised eyebrows.
“Yeah, the doctor said I’m weak and I need to be put on a special diet” I explain.
“Someone is already falling in–” Claudia said being her usual self.
“Love,” a couple of multiple voices said and I just shook my head at them.
“Let’s go in and greet my future mother in law,” I said and they all rolled their eyes with a frown.
“Eileen is so lucky that she is not here” Claudia murmured as we made our way inside.
“Are you calling my wedding preparations not fun?” I say managing fake hurt flashing and holding a hand to my chest.
“It’s not your wedding preparations,” she said a little bit loud this time. “It’s your mother in law. She is no fun” Claudia spoke her mind.
“Common. We are thirteen badass ladies we can let a grumpy old woman take us down” Lila said and they all started yelling incoherent words of yes and we can.
“Let’s go show this woman who is boss” Anika commented lazily.
“You sure you want to do that?” Ana commented mocking her sister.
“After this, you owe us food,” Anika said ignoring her sister.
“Pizza” Cara chipped happily.
“I have to eat healthy,” I tell them.
“What does that have to do with us?” Jade said and I chuckled lazily.
“I need a diet buddy and I have got thirteen girls to do that with me,” I said with a hint of amusement in my voice.
“Eww, disgusting, we will never do that, why spend our young lives eating food for my mom” were they commenting.
“Why don’t you ask Noah to do that for you” Leah asked as we opened the waiting room to see my mother in law sitted there.
“Good afternoon Mrs. Lorraine,” I say catching her attention. It felt weird for me to see that I might need to take that last name soon enough.
She turns to me and then catches the attention of the twelve ladies behind me.
“Good afternoon Rachael. What are they doing here?” she asked raising her eyebrows.
“They had promised to help me with my gown choosing before but then Noah told me you wanted to do that and since I didn’t want to disappoint anyone I brought everyone along,” I said and she just sighed.
“Then come along let’s get started,” she said clicking away to one of the many sales girls.
An elderly woman catches the eye of Mrs. Lorraine and she comes to her.
“Emila,” the woman said a Scottish accent coming on from her speech.
“Vanessa” Emila mussed too and gave her one of those weird hugs that we see in movies. They were barely touching each other. “So I will need a dress for my daughter in law to be, ” Emila said to the woman pointing to me.
“What do you have in mind?” Vanessa asked Emila.
“Well, we were thinking of a dress that will cover up the baby bump perfectly. And then we need something in the colors of off-white or cream” she said and then turned to face me. “Only virgins wear white on their big day,” she said with enough spite coming from her speech.
“We won’t have you talking to Cara like that” Ana immediately sprung into action.
“That is just not nice” Debby spoke and she didn’t feel too pleased with the tone her voice had taken. Debby sounded hurt and so did I. Emila was being rude on purpose anyway, she just had to ignore her as much as she could.
“If you think that because you are buying the dress you can be rude you can take a ride because all of us here can buy her a thousand dresses,” Cara said before adding “Old woman”
“Guys it’s okay,” I said trying to stop them from saying anything that would make her face to harden more than it was.
“It’s not okay Rachael. I don’t think Noah will be too pleased to hear what his mother said to you” Claudia said.
“What did my mother say?” Noah’s voice came from behind us. I turned around to see him standing there.
“What are you doing here my son?” Emila said as soon as she saw Noah stand there.
“Well, I came to tell you that you have to schedule this dress meeting for another day. I found the dietician” he said directing the last part at me. “So what did my mom say,” he asked still going to that topic.
“Nothing,” I said immediately making sure I passed a message across to them that he couldn’t hear anything about this.
“When can we reschedule you?” Vanessa asked. I even forgot that she was still standing there.
“Make that next week” Noah answered for me.
“Noted,” Vanessa said leaving the place.
“Let’s go then?” Noah asked taking my hands and leading me away.
“Text us” someone shouted as I made my way out.
“So you are going to hide what my mom said” Noah spoke as soon as we sat inside the car.
“I’m not hiding. I just think it’s really unnecessary” I said putting on my seat belt.Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.
“You know in three weeks we will be married and then we can’t have secrets,” he said seriously.
“Your mom commented on me being not pure enough to wear a white dress because of the baby,” I said and he frowned.
“I’m sorry about her” he apologized.
“It’s okay. I think she is right” I say and then add “but not because of the baby”
“This is all messed up,” he said. “But if this makes you feel any better,” he said with a slow sigh. “I kind of like you already”
