Chapter 74
Chapter 74
The two of them exchanged a few more words before reluctantly ending the call.
After hanging up, Zoe curled up on the sofa, gently hugging herself as if it could provide some sense of security.
She reminisced about many things. She reminisced about the beautiful moments spent with her brother during childhood, the longing for their mother after her passing, and how her brother used to comfort her every night by reading fairy tales and singing nursery rhymes until she fell asleep.
Noah was the best brother in the world.
As the night deepened, Zoe fell asleep in the hospital room. Her face rested on her knees, cold and beautiful.
Outside the ward, Mason stood silently. A nurse stood beside him, lowering her voice, "She's been like this since she watched the news last night, Mr. Mason. Should we wake Mrs. Zoe? Sleeping like this might be uncomfortable for her."
Mason's gaze was obscure and difficult to decipher. After a while, he turned and left, leaving only a sentence behind. "Don't tell her I came."
Downstairs, he got into his black Bentley in a bad mood. He pulled out a cigarette and lit it but found it only added to his agitation. He decided to put it out.
As he extinguished the cigarette, he couldn't help but think that with so many women in the world and a plethora of attractive ones at that, it was unnecessary for him to waste his energy and money on Zoe. She was an unwilling wife, and it was simply not worth it.
Yet, he still did it.
Perhaps it was because he couldn't accept it.
He wasn't willing to let her go, and he wasn't willing to see her in the arms of another man.
After all, having spent a few years together, things were somewhat different.
…
The next day, Mason arrived at the hospital in the afternoon. He had strained his thigh ligaments while horseback riding and his secretary accompanied him to the hospital. Instead of going to the emergency room, he arranged for a doctor to bandage his thigh in Zoe's ward.
Sitting on the sofa, Mason glanced at Zoe.
Zoe leaned against the bedside, reading a book, seemingly indifferent. However, he had seen her vulnerable side last night and knew she was putting on a show.
Mason withdrew his gaze and told the doctor, "Leave the medicine kit."
His injury wasn't severe, and the doctor agreed. After the doctor left, Ava volunteered, "Mr. Mason, let me help you with the bandage."
Mason placed his arms on the sofa behind him, his tone indifferent. "I pulled my thigh, Ava. Are you planning to take off my pants?"
Ava apologized repeatedly, "Mr. Mason, I didn't mean that."
Mason raised an eyebrow. "Are you not going to leave?"
Once Ava left and closed the door, Mason looked at the person on the bed, "Come over and help me with the bandage."
He had been in the room for a while, and only now did Zoe raise her eyes to look at him.
Despite the injury, Mason was still impeccably dressed, exuding charm. Wearing a classic black and white suit, he looked incredibly handsome. Only the collar of his shirt was casually unbuttoned, emphasizing the sexy Adam's apple.
As Zoe got off the bed, Mason took off his jacket, gently pulling out his belt.
The room was brightly lit, and in front of her, Mason unabashedly lowered his trousers to the bend of his thigh, revealing a glimpse of the sexy V-line, disappearing into the black boxer briefs. The thin black fabric enveloped the man's essentials.
Mason looked up, catching Zoe's gaze.
His voice suddenly became hoarse. "You've seen it for three years. Is that not enough?"Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
