Chapter 45: Friday 

The party concluded two hours before midnight.

Many of the guests have already left, but the Wright siblings were still enjoying their chat.

While sitting in front of the same round table with Kaleb, Scarlett finally had the chance to check her mobile.Her eyes widened seeing how many calls she had missed, all of them, coming from Cindy Barnes.She turned to Kaleb, and he was quick to pick up based on her worried expression.She tilted her head in the direction of the huge double doors and Kaleb nodded, silently agreeing.

Soon, she made her way outside.

Scarlett found a good private spot where three sofa seats were set up in one corner.She sucked in a breath before making the call.

"Scarlett, I need your help," Cindy quickly answered.

Composing herself, Scarlett thought back ‘How would I normally answer this?’

"My help? That’s the first," Scarlett remarked before asking, "What do you need, mother?"

"Look, Scarlett.I would not come to you if I did not think I had another choice.Your father is missing!" Cindy finally revealed.

She then narrated how it would seem like Aurora took Philip away.

"And you know what else is bothering me? Courtney has become paranoid.She is always jumpy and lately, she has been spending too much time with Analisa.We should be working together to find Philip, but right now, I don’t know what she is doing!"

"Mother, Aurora has been in your care even before I was born.She is loyal to the family."

Scarlett swallowed air down her throat before representing, "There must be a reason why she left with father-"

"But why not tell us? Why disappear all of a sudden?" Cindy reasoned.

"Please Scarlett, can you ask Kaleb to help us in the search? The Wrights not only have private security, but they have connections with the police, and the military, too! Kaleb would easily find your father."

"I beg you, Scarlett.And don’t worry, when we find your father, I will convince him to change the will in your favor."

"That is not what’s important.And don’t worry, I will speak to Kaleb.Whatever is happening, we will get to the bottom of it," Scarlett assured her mother.

Either way, that was their main purpose, to address Philip’s sudden illness.

"Do you have someone with you? Are you taking your blood pressure medication?"

‘Yes." Scarlett heard Cindy sniff.

"I’m trying hard not to lose myself in the situation."

Scarlett had to listen for another ten minutes, with Cindy letting out all her worries.

At the end of the phone call, Scarlett said, "I’ll call you if we learn something sooner.If not, I will still call you and check on you."

"Okay, goodbye," Cindy said before finally ending the call.

Scarlett did not know for how long she lingered outside the venue, just thinking, but eventually, Liam and Kaleb came to find her.

They returned to The Third Diamond Hotel, then after.

Putting a cup of coffee in front of Scarlett, Kaleb reported, "We will fly out to Swaxon City tomorrow.We will drop off Liam at my parent’s house early in the morning."

"Have you heard from your men?" Scarlett asked, wondering if the doctors have found out what was wrong with Philip.

The two were in the living room, covering their plans for the next day.

Kaleb sat on the couch in front of Scarlett and replied, "Nothing yet, but the private hospital has already collected blood and urine samples.

Archer has also sent the contents of the bottle to a private laboratory, the same one which Aurora had seen Courtney put in Philip’s tea… If not tomorrow, we will find out soon if your father is indeed being poisoned."

Scarlett took a sip of her warm beverage before she muttered, "I hope we did the right thing, Kaleb."

"Either way, our intentions are good," Kaleb responded.

"And if Aurora is wrong, I’ll take care of everything.You don’t have to worry."

"I also had men follow Analisa and Courtney around.So far, the two have been hiding in a private apartment near the Jameses’ mansion," Kaleb updated.

Scarlett nodded.

It was recently that her mother Analisa decided to live out of the Jameses’ mansion, despite having her own quarters in the said home.

A few times, she would rest at the Jameses’ estate, but on other nights, she would go home to her own apartment.

"If our hunch is correct, the two must be scared out of their wits," Kaleb described.

"Or? Planning an escape."

"God, I hope not.I hope they go to jail if they were really responsible for my father’s illness," Scarlett replied, all while taking deep breaths.

The two spent a few minutes finishing their coffee while assessing the situation.

When they were finally done, Kaleb sat next to her.

He wrapped her in his arms and requested, "Kitten, I know you have a lot on your mind, but I just need to hear it… Tell me again you love me."

Hearing his request, Scarlett just could not help but smile at the man.

She caressed his jaws and landed her forehead on Kaleb’s, saying, "I love you."

Kaleb closed his eyes.He gathered air into his lungs and asked, "Say it again."

"I love you," Scarlett replied, and she also started to peck on his lips.

"I love you."

"I like the sound of it," Kaleb announced.

"I was really worried you’d break my heart, kitten.You love Liam more than me.You’ve told him many times you love him, but you never said the same words to me… until tonight." Scarlett chuckled.

She embraced Kaleb and said, "Doesn’t matter.You and Liam are a package deal, remember?"

"That is true," Kaleb acknowledged.

For an undetermined time, dead air fell upon them.

Scarlett relished the feel of his warmth before revealing, "Kaleb, I truly love you.I love everything about you, the way you argue with me, how you make me smile, the way you treat me like a gem, that you have Liam, that you have this amazing family, and – well, the fact th you are rich and gorgeous is just a bonus."

"Hmmm." Kaleb was smiling like a fool at her words.

It elated him to hear her heartfelt admission.

On top of that, he was especially amused at how Scarlett rated his good looks at wealth, second to his other qualities.

He thought, ‘My kitten is something else"

Kaleb leaned Scarlett on his chest as he moved back to the armrest of the couch.

Repeatedly, I caressed her hair and said, "And I….I love everything about you."

Scarlett and Kaleb quietly delighted at having confessed each other’s feelings by maintaining their hug and savoring each other’s scent.

After some time, Kaleb suggested, "Kitten, now that I know you love me, maybe… we can celebrate a little?"

"Hmm? What do you have in mind?" Scarlett meekly asked.

"Let’s see.How about one round inside of you?" Kaleb answered before he shrugged.

He wasn’t sure if Scarlett was in the mood, but he wanted to try, anyway.

Scarlett chuckled.She replied, "We can’t."

"We can’t?" He asked back and then he groaned.

"Even if I was in the mood, Kaleb, we can’t."

She looked up at him and revealed, "I have my period."

"What?" He inquired, utterly dismayed.

"Yes.When I went to my studio and showered, I had my period," Scarlett revealed.

"So… we can’t." Kaleb grunted.

He hissed and sought, "For how many days?"

Yet again, Scarlett laughed.She snorted in her reply.

"Five days.That’s not so long."

"Yeah, well, you should have told me you loved me five days later," Kaleb countered, his head counting the days.

"Friday then."

Still laughing, Scarlett acknowledged, "Yes, Friday."

"I can’t wait," Kaleb said.
