Chapter 72 (Clare)
Chapter 72 (Clare)
The Asguardian was not to be trusted and given the chance, he would slice her head off without a second thought. At that moment she mentally made an enemy list, and gleefully placed Raphael at the top.
What became another problem in her list of puzzles was, who was killing the descendants and why did it sound like the Asguardians were covering it up, and blaming her. It seemed she was central to everything. In the human world, she wouldn’t mind, it was semantics with popularity, but in this world, well that just seemed to make more enemies. And with Tempters and Angels already gunning for her, her future was just getting dimmer by the second. All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
She wasn’t aware that she stopped and leaned against the wall of the court’s entrance, being lost in thought. A man from her right called out her name, snapping her out of her buzzing mind. She turned her head surprised to see it was the Shapeshifter Alpha, Jaiden,
“Yes, Orderian,” she said respectably, not wanting to lose his alliance. Though he looked like a man who couldn’t care less about formalities, she wasn’t going to compromise her brothers’ safety any further by a slip of the tongue.
She eyed Jaiden with an appreciative glance, capturing his ruffled spiky bed slept blue hair, and hazel eyes that slanted upwards, hidden behind thick long lush eyebrows. He stared right back at her, as his bridged nose flared. Talk about hotness coaxed in olive skin, Jaiden Pyn even walked like a tiger on a prowl. She wondered if he purred while suppressing the urge to fan herself as the sudden flush of heat crept on her.
Since she woke up from her sleep-induced trance, she had been getting a lot of hot flushes, similar to when she was ovulating. It must have been a side effect of getting her memory back, but she wasn’t going to ask her brother about that, no way.
When he stopped in front of her, he gave her a knowing smile. Clare instantly dropped her gaze as a sudden blush pinked her cheeks, glimpsing his suddenly extremely interesting black combat boots.
He cleared his throat, and she reluctantly lifted her head, to stare into his eyes that now looked black, and primal, his voice thick and gruff when he said, “The Shapeshifter I have for you is in Los-Angeles, I called him, he’ll expect you to meet him midday, in two days, be there. His name’s Thomas Browley, brown hair, about your height, tattoo on his body of a butterfly you won’t miss him, I don’t think he’ll make it sooner, he’d take you to the entrance of the demon realms, your brother has his number.”
He paused as if contemplating what to say next, “Never lower your head, Clare, especially if you plan to confront Kole, he’ll eat you alive. If you can barely look at me, you wouldn’t last ten minutes with Kole, especially if he’s having one of his moods.”
Clare laughed, completely puzzled, “Kole?”.
He looked at her confused, “Nikolai Blackwyll?”
She bit her lip, trying hard not to say something snarky, “Thanks for the info, I’ll talk to Nathan.”
“Malibu beach, Thomas.”
She nodded as Jaiden walked off, taking a sec just to admire his delectable back view, she turned to see Nathan, Kalbreal, Alonso and Nadia at the entrance of the cave, gawking at her.
Startled, because she’d been caught standing by the entrance admiring Jaiden’s asset, she raised her eyebrows to say well-what-the-hell-are-you-staring-at. She hadn’t seen them pass her to leave the court, not that she was really paying attention. Nathan was the one to drop his head and shake it, while Alonso and Nadia gave her knowing looks. Kalbreal on the other hand looked almost worried, not angry, or jealous, but worried.., interesting.
It was comforting to know that she hadn’t been launched, but she was really hoping to slip out unseen, because this Nikolai character piqued her curiosity, “You guys don’t have to guard me, I feel fine.” She shrugged as if it was no big deal, “I know my way around, go have fun.”
Her brother held his hand out so she could take it, “Psst, we ain't gonna be having fun here little sister, when there’s a party to attend.”
She smirked at Nathan and took his hand, “hmmm party, music and booze kinda party?”
They all laughed, except Kalbreal, who had the same distraught look plastered on his face,
Nadia added, gathering Clare’s attention, “There’s a whole lot more than deceptors booze. The Garde all left for their stations, including your father.”
“Yeah, I didn’t see him at the meeting,” She gave Nathan an expectant look, who had his head dropped to the floor, as they made the way back toward the elevator, “Aren’t we suppose to go with him to Washington?”
Kalbreal chipped in, “We will,” his gaze speculative. She guessed the Angel wasn’t sure whether Clare was angry at him or not. She’ll have to fix that, after meeting Nikolai Blackwyll.
Nadia remarked, “If we live through the next week.”
Outside of the dome, Clare was just about to make up some excuse when Nadia tugged on her arm, “Clare and I’ll see you boys at the Jakenson palace.”
After a brief hesitation from Nathan and teeth grinding from Kalbreal, the boys eventually left and Nadia pulled Clare further away from the dome, “I heard you talking to Vincent Ipswich, I know Nikolai Blackwyll, he’s a drunk and a womanizing liar. He has no remorse for anything, just going to him alone is a suicide mission especially in his recent state, he’s deteriorated, what if he kills you, Clare?”
Clare went completely defensive, for reasons she couldn’t possibly understand, when she practically growled, “Well it’s a chance I’m willing to take. Vincent’s alright, I don’t think he’d have told me about Nikolai, if he didn’t trust the guy, and I need all the help I can get, Casters can be helpful.” She shrugged as if the decision was simple, totally not true, but Clare didn’t like explaining herself to someone else.
Nadia sighed, “He prefers the term Warlock, if you going, at least take this.”
She handed Clare a silver gun, it was a 9mm, serpent symbols engraved on the handle. She recognized it as the seals for death, “Lemme guess, demon gun?”
“Ah, I see you picking up that memory fast.”
Nadia and Clare walked around the building into the open sky. The sun had just set, and the darkness started creeping into the shadows.
Clare felt chills crawl up the flesh of her spine, she didn’t know whether it was her nerves or the fact that the mountain of Aquadore looked like a nomads mountain,
“Clare focus, the guys will meet us at eight, that’ll give you two hours to get there, change and get back. I’ll meet you at the entrance cave, exactly at 7.45, with a change of clothes, don’t be late.”
She nodded, “Weird that you helping me, but thanks.”
Nadia looked serious, “Go, now, before I change my mind.”
