Chapter 48 (Clare)

Chapter 48 (Clare)

He moved closer to her, she took a step back, until her back was flat against the bathroom door. He placed his hand on the wall beside her head, making the hairs on her neck stand up at close contact. His heat seeping from his skin, imprisoning her.

“I don’t want to say no, let me pick you up tomorrow, show you around.” Kalbreal’s eyes were so appealing, unyielding in its request, but she wasn’t going to give in to his temptations so easily, this feeling wasn’t like what she felt for William, this was strange.

“First, I’m not your type and now you want to take me on a date, the day after I just lost my mother.”

He dropped his hand but kept his eyes focused on hers, showing no attempt to rekindle its course. The hollows in his face and the piercings in his ears were stark at the close distance. Taking a closer look at his ear, they weren’t piercings, but small shining tattoos on his skin, it was part of his flesh, a shiny silver metal.

He was no doubt an un-captured beauty, “No, not a date, just a tour, I find you fascinating Clarebella.” He paused, it was the second time he had called her that, “I was married before, not so long ago, and she was taken from me, you remind me of her. I wished to touch your skin the other day, it had been years...”

Kalbreal’s eyes dropped to the floor, he didn’t continue with what he was going to say, she exhaled a burst of warm carbon dioxide. Clare turned her head to the left, her hair falling in her eyes. She wanted to push it back, but his gaze was so captivating, so unrealistically burning. Was it arousal, or need, or hunger, she couldn’t tell, but all of a sudden she felt like the room just got fifty degrees hotter.“But without your name on your skin it’ll never be possible, the heavenly fire in my veins will burn through you with one touch.”

She didn’t know what to say by the little peek into his life, he had given her, “I’m sorry to hear about your wife, she would’ve had to be perfect to marry you, but you shouldn’t compare me to her.” She

didn’t know what she had expected from Kalbreal, but this was certainly not it, “I’m not sure if sightseeing alone with you is a good idea, as you said, trust issues.”

“I am ageless, I have patience.”

She muttered, “I don’t doubt that.”

She fanned her face, and took a painful swallow of saliva, “Is there anything else Angel-boy, I’m kinda hungry.”

“Yes, tomorrow one of those Angels are going to attend the meeting with the Orderian, I’ll try to summon another Harpien blade tonight, in the event, I tell you to run, you need to listen, do you understand.”

“Am I that transparent or is it your super mind-reading skills?”

Kalbreal closed the water by the sink after he washed his hands, his eyes finally moved off her, “I can’t read minds, I’m made from fire, it has its perks but also limits, but I hear you are quite the stubborn one.”

She thought it was interesting because she was certain, William had read her mind, and he was a Caster, she thought of saying something, but shrugged it off, “That’s me, what’s a Harpien blade?”

“Angel blades, made from the Infinity. As Angels, we can summon them at will, there was once a time you knew them better than any Lightwatcher around.”

“Seriously, I feel like all my memories are lost forever.” She meant to be sarcastic but it came out tired.

He closed the window behind the toilet, “It’s for the best, trust me.”

“As stupid as it sounds, I kinda do, to an extent.” She said, lying coolly, “I’m meeting with the Orderian, my brother’s out there, somewhere being tortured and god knows what else is being done to him, I feel it’s my duty to save him or die trying, just thought you should know.”

There was a knock on the door and Kalbreal vanished into thin air before she got to asking about Calub. Her body tensed and she paused with her hand on the doorknob, gathering herself up.

Nathan stood with his legs apart in the front of the frame of the door, he peeped at her through his hair, which was full over his eyes brushing his cheeks. Clare could see that he himself had a dangerous deadly spark to him. He had that bad streak, which woman craved, just like Kalbreal, accept both of them were made from light, and yet-

“Come on, little sister, let’s eat.”

She walked a few steps when he gripped her arm, her breath caught from surprise. He bridged the gap between them, whispering into her ear, “Kalbreal is an Angel but I wouldn’t trust him with your life and neither should you.”

She nodded, speechless because yet again, she found herself thinking that her brother was a smart ass, who never missed anything. She wanted to tell him that Kalbreal told her to trust only him, but that would’ve been awkward considering what he just said, but she didn’t deny facts, and it sure felt good to have an older brother looking out for her, even a possessive one like Nathan.

Nathan let her go as they approached the couches, “Come on, I want you to meet Adam, he’s a partial shifter, one of the Fuized, awesome guy.”

Clare followed her brother to a door that led to a kitchen. She stuck her head inside the door frame.

A few guys cooked, as flames sizzled. They all looked ordinary at first, but the longer she stared, the more she noticed. The guy who stood washing dishes, and whistling, his eyes were enlarged like an ant might be if it were his size. His head shaped in an elongated cone.

Her brother bumped her, getting her attention instantly. Guilt was written all over her face from staring, and he shook his head. She knew he was telling her to cut it out.

He spoke loudly, to no one in particular, “Where’s Adam?”Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
