Her Precious Baby

Chapter 124

Chapter 124

Evander’s expression remained calm. It seemed as if everything that happened was within his expectation. “Go on.”

Sitting on the couch, Angeline curled up into a ball—a posture with a great sense of security to suppress the resentment within her.

“Since Joseline could make a move against Grandpa, I believe my parents’ death was also related to her. I want to collect evidence and bring her to justice!”

Hearing that, Evander took a sip of coffee and reminded, “Since your parents’ autopsy reports are now in Joseline’s hands, I believe you have already asked Old Mr. Sorelle for the license plate number of the car involved in the accident back then, right?”

“Yeah. T-That’s right,” Angeline stuttered, staring at him with a look of surprise.

She couldn’t believe he was able to guess her approach correctly. “So, what do you suggest?”

“Even if you know the license plate number, it will only delay your investigation progress. Why don’t you visit the police station? Your parents’ case had caused a great stir back then. I believe they still keep what was left of the car until today.”

Angeline got anxious at his words. Since Joseline is the culprit, she would definitely be cautious and build a good rapport with the police. It’d be hard for me to enter the police station to investigate.

While she was at her wit’s end, Evander replied leisurely in the video call, “I’ll get Sylas to contact the police. The rest is up to you.”

Angeline was taken aback for a moment. Then, she stared at the man apologetically and said, “Mr. Golding, I can take care of it myself. I’ve already owed you too much.”

“So you’re aware?” Evander raised his brows and smiled cynically. “Anyway, there are already too many favors that you can never repay me, so I don’t mind doing you another one.”

He ended the video call promptly after that.

The look in Angeline’s eyes turned gloomy as she stared at his handsome face, which gradually faded to a black screen. At the same time, she felt a touch of warmth in her heart. The feeling of being protected by someone is so good. Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.

Meanwhile, Joseline couldn’t sleep at the hospital. Gazing at the night sky outside the window, she paced back and forth in the deluxe ward restlessly.

Her due date was only a few days away, yet there were still no signs of labor.

Being forced to stay in the ward, she could do nothing besides waiting for the news. Anxiousness and uneasiness overwhelmed her.

Especially after she learned from the maid that Angeline had gone back to the Sorelle residence earlier that day and gotten along well with Wilfred, she finally couldn’t bear it anymore.

She had encountered Angeline many times and found that the woman would always catch her by surprise.

Immediately after, she walked to the door and locked it carefully.

She fished out her phone and quickly pressed a series of numbers on the screen. A male voice rang out from the other end of the line before long.

“Babe, why are you calling so late? Do you miss me?”

“Stop your nonsense.” Joseline walked to the balcony and scanned the surroundings to ensure no one was around before she whispered, “I have some questions for you. There should be no problem with the drugs you gave to the old man, right? Are you sure no one will find out about it?”

The man sneered in disdain when he heard the questions. “Those are slow-acting poisons, and the medicine jar was replaced long ago; even the old man can’t differentiate it. Don’t worry. No one will suspect anything.”

“Okay.” Joseline felt slightly relieved at his words. As something suddenly flashed across her mind, she said in a trembling voice, “I’ve been having nightmares lately. In the nightmare, the Sorelles wrapped their hands tightly around my throat and shouted in rage that I was not their biological daughter. They even asked me to pay with my life. Do you think—”

“Nothing will happen!” The man’s voice was wicked and menacing as he spoke. “You are under immense stress before labor. Just calm down and focus on delivering our baby smoothly. Even if something happens, I don’t mind taking another life.”

Another life… Joseline shivered when she heard that. Well, three Sorelles’ already died in my hands. I shouldn’t be bothered about the consequences anymore. The most important thing is to reach my goal!

Joseline squeezed her phone at that thought. Her eyes were filled with maliciousness as she ordered coldly, “Remember, it’s Hanson’s baby. I’ll ensure you won’t get anything if you dare to leak the truth!”

I’ve been plotting this scheme for so long and will eventually get my hands on Sorelle Group once the old man draws his last breath. I can’t let anything go wrong at a time like this!

The following day, Angeline drove Floretta to the kindergarten.

To avoid attracting attention, she stayed inside the vehicle and kept her gaze on Floretta, who took her friend’s hand and finally walked into the building behind the teacher.

It was then she noticed Nancy had sent her a few advertising notices early that morning. She clicked on the voice message. “Angie, the marketing campaign of The Journey is successful. Mr. McKenna wants to arrange more activities for you and Jacob before the film’s release. I’ve checked for you, and the pay is considerable. Do you want to drop by the company today to have a look?”

After listening to the message, she leaned against the seat and tapped on the steering wheel. I’ll need a hefty sum in the search for my child. Besides, I don’t know if my child is safe. If something happens, I’ll need more money for the treatment. No matter how exhausting it is, I must grab every opportunity to make more money!

She pondered for a while and typed a few words in reply: Do as you see fit. But I’m not available today.

In fact, she had a more important thing to deal with that day.

After telling Nancy a few things, Angeline turned on the GPS, entered the address sent by Evander the day before, and headed toward the police station.

Half an hour’s drive later, she turned toward the foot of a mountainside and finally arrived at the police station.

The surrounding was sparsely populated, with only a few residential buildings.

She got out of the vehicle and called an officer named Jasper Lacroix.

Shortly after, a young man in a police uniform exited the building and approached her with a friendly smile.

“Are you Evander’s girlfriend?”

Angeline didn’t expect Evander would regard her that way and nearly lost her footing.

It would be much easier for her to execute things as his girlfriend, though.

For some reason, she didn’t even try to explain and held out her hand instinctively. “Yeah. I’ve heard about you from Evander. Sorry to trouble you this time.”

Jasper reached out to shake hands with her in response. With an excited smile, he spoke magnanimously.

“No problem. I already had a general idea about your parents’ case yesterday and retrieved all the documents last night. Please come to my office.”

“Thank you.”

Angeline was overjoyed when she heard that and hurriedly followed behind Jasper.

When they arrived at the office, Jasper signaled her to have a seat and poured her a glass of hot water.

“There may be a lot of pictures that you may feel uncomfortable looking at in these documents. I hope you can be mentally prepared for it.”

“Sure.” Angeline clutched the corners of her shirt with an inexplicable sense of nervousness.

Only after getting her consent did Jasper hand her the documents. She nearly passed out when she flipped open the papers and saw the first picture.
