Goodbye, My Wretched Love

Chapter 9 Better Leave

When Claire arrived at the entrance of the banquet hall, she saw two annoying people at a distance.

Bonita held Sierra's hand with one hand and pulled her dress with the other.

"Sierra, should I have worn that white dress?"

She seemed a little hesitant and insecure.

"Oh, Bonita, you look gorgeous like this.I can guarantee all wealthy men in Bysea will fall for you."

"Really? But my skin has lost its shine and luster recently. Can you come with me for mesotherapy someday?"

The two walked to the entrance of the venue as they spoke.

However, the usher stopped them when they showed the invitation. Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.

"Sorry, you two can't goin."

"What? What did you say?" Bonita asked, frowning.

"This invitation is for Darren Sampson, the president of the Quantum Group.Only he is permitted to attend the banquet."

"I'm Darren's elder sister."

"I'm sorry. This invitation is only for him.Not his family members."

Bonita's face darkened.

"Who do you think you are? I have the invite.Who stipulated that guests’ family members aren't allowed to attend the banquet? Everyone has brought a date tonight.Have you sent invites to them as well?"

"You can go in only if Mr.Sampson accompanies you.Otherwise, we can't verify your identity," the usher explained with embarrassment.

However, Bonita became agitated. She couldn't take the humiliation anymore.

Sierra didn't expect to encounter such a situation, so she didn't know what to do.

Just then, the two heard a voice and turned around.

"Why is it so noisy here?"

Claire stood in front of Bonita and Sierra, grinning.

Bonita’s eyes widened.Sierra was equally shocked.

"Claire! What are you doing here?"

Sierra asked, scrunching her nose with distaste.

Just then, something occurred to Bonita.

"Claire, the Sampson family just drove you out.Why are you still bothering Darren? Shame on you!"

She assumed Claire was here to win Darren's heart.

Claire couldn't help but laugh at her.

"Don't forget it was I who asked for a divorce.I don't give a damn about your Sampson family.Since you're not eligible to attend the banquet, you'd better leave."

Claire walked past them and went straight inside. The usher politely bowed to her, which infuriated Bonita.

"Are you kidding me? What's going on? How does she get to go inside without any invitation? How?"

The usher looked at them helplessly.

Just then, Claire stopped short and looked back.

"If they want to come, let them in."

She grinned, turned around, and walked inside.

The usher nodded and stepped aside, letting Bonita and Sierra go in.

Bonita froze. She stared at Claire, dumbfounded. She couldn't understand what was going on.

Claire's sudden authority startled her.

Sierra's eyes narrowed with resentment.

"It's okay, Bonita.Calm down. She must have hooked up with some wealthy man here.He must have arranged everything for her in advance."

Bonita immediately nodded, thinking it was the truth.

"She just divorced Darren and has immediately hooked up with another man.She must have had an affair with someone when she was still married to Darren.God, what a slut! Shameless woman! Anyway, I'm sure he will soon dump her."

Bonita indirectly slut-shamed Sierra as well.

After all, she, too, had seduced Darren, a married man.

Sierra's face was taut with rage, but she didn't utter a word. However, Bonita didn't notice it.She glared at the usher and dragged Sierra inside.

At the open-air banquet, Claire spotted Haylee among the crowd.

Haylee's eyes lit up with joy.She ran to Claire and pulled her into a tight embrace.

"I missed you so much!"

Claire rolled her eyes. She was used to her best friend exaggerating everything.

People unaware of the truth might think the two hadn't seen each other for years.

"We just met last week."

"Oh, you were a sad, grumbling woman last week.Look at you now. You're the beautiful, regal princess of the Williams family. This is how you should look.Happy as always."

Haylee's face beamed as she examined Claire from head to toe.

Claire hadn't changed into a formal outfit yet.She was only wearing a long, dark green dress.

But even so, she looked alluring.Claire totally different from her past self after the divorce. She was back to being the happy, chirpy girl she was before she got married.

Claire's family had pampered and spoiled her with love and care since she was a child.

However, love blinded her.She had suffered for three years for loving a ruthless man.

He wasn't worth the pain and humiliation she had experienced.

"Haylee, I'm sorry for having made you worried." Claire smiled apologetically.

"It's okay.Let bygones be bygones! In my opinion, Darren is blind! I don't know what you saw in him.You gave up everything to marry him.It was an honor for the Sampson family. But he missed an angel like you by hooking up with that bitch!"Haylee's face reddened with rage.

"You know what? Darren personally handled the case with all his connections to prevent that bitch from going to jail."

Haylee was always well-informed.

Claire wasn't too surprised. She knew Darren wouldn't let anything happen to Sierra.

But considering he could solve the matter, Claire didn't know why he had asked her to take the blame. It was apparent that he didn't give a damn about her.

Claire was utterly disappointed in him.

"I don't care about them anymore."

"The last time we met, you were still hopelessly in love with Darren. What happened then? Why did you decide to divorce him?"

Although Haylee seemed nonchalant, she had always been careful not to hurt Claire's feelings.

Claire shook her head, reluctant to speak further.

She didn't tell anyone about Sierra's pregnancy, nor did she mention the Sampson family wanted her to take the blame for Sierra.

Claire's family and friends were already worried about her.She didn't want to add to their distress.

Just as Haylee was about to get to the bottom of the matter, Bonita's loud cry caught their attention.

"Claire! You thief!"
