Chapter 293
Herbert stood up at once and took Jessica's hand. "Little Mute, let's go."
Tonight's dinner was Jessica's treat. She wanted to thank Vince he'd helped her find a lawyer for her divorce, and she was flying abroad tomorrow. This meal was her way of showing gratitude.
If Timothy showed up here, it might mess with her travel plans. Jessica turned to Vince and said, "Let's eat together another time, okay? I don't want to see him."
Vince rose as well. "Jessy, I can't speak for everyone, but I know Timothy. Even if you avoid him tonight, what about tomorrow? If you don't clear the air, I doubt you'll make it onto that plane."
Running away was only a short-term fix.
Herbert's expression darkened. "Vince, did you come here just to play Timothy's messenger?"
Herbert didn't know Timothy, but Jessica did. She quickly signed to Herbert, "He's right."
Then Jessica asked Herbert to let Timothy know she was here.
With two friends by her side, she wasn't worried anymore.
It was time for things to be said, once and for all.
Vince texted the restaurant's address to Timothy.
Still, for Jessica's safety, he also messaged a security firm to post a couple of bodyguards in the lobby downstairs. Last time, Timothy had gotten physical with Jessica-who knew what he might do tonight? Vince was the one who'd suggested Timothy come; he had to make sure Jessica was protected.
When Timothy arrived, he saw that Herbert was there besides Vince.
The two men sat on either side of Jessica, like silent sentinels.
Timothy's face clouded over.
He walked over to Vince and said coldly, "Move over."
"We just started eating. I've already used my silverware. I'm not switching seats."
He had no intention of letting Timothy anywhere near Jessica.
Timothy was here to take Jessica home, not to start a fight, so he sat down on the other side.
Jessica ignored him completely.
Timothy pulled out a cigarette, trying to steady his nerves. He shot her a steely glance. "I had a talk with our son today. When are you coming home?"
"I'm not."
At that moment, Timothy's phone rang-Secretary Allen was calling.
He answered.
"Mr. Lawson, we still haven't found your wife, but the courier just delivered a summons from the court-she's filed for divorce..."
A chill swept Timothy's features.
"I understand."
Closing his phone, his voice was icy. "I've never treated you badly. The only thing
I owe you is a wedding, and I've already promised to make it up to you. What
more do you want? Does it really have to end up in court?"
"Yes."
Her hand signed the word without a hint of hesitation.
It wasn't that she hadn't tried to reason with him.
The problem was he was impossible to reason with.
The room seemed to shrink under the weight of silence.
"Maybe the problem isn't with our marriage..." Timothy stubbed his cigarette into the ashtray, then glared at Herbert. "Maybe it's that you have someone else on the side!"
For seven years, things had been peaceful-at least until Herbert showed up. That's when Jessica started talking divorce.noveldrama
Nothing he said or did could change her mind.
What else could it be, if not this?
"Timothy! Seriously? After everything you've done, you have the nerve to accuse Little Mute of cheating?"
Herbert was seething.
Vince couldn't help but wince for Timothy. Was this really his idea of winning her back? He was only making things worse.
What do you think?
