Chapter 24
Mia
I left the VIP section after settling the bills for what I had bought, my mind racing with different thoughts. It was still hard to believe what had happened.
I couldn’t convince myself that I had seen the right thing; it all felt like my imagination was playing tricks on me.
A part of me believed it was true – that Noah had come to the mall with another woman. I believed he was cheating on Jasmine. Another part of me believed it was unreal – that I was only imagining things.
Noah was never in the VIP section, to begin with, and it was just me perceiving things because I was bothered. How could he have disappeared in those minutes if he was the one? He should still be there. How did he leave in those few minutes I was on the phone with Jasmine?
I shook my head, still unable to believe what I had seen. I made my way towards where I had left Jasmine, my mind still in shambles, unsure if I had seen the right thing or if it was just my mind playing tricks.
“Where have you been, Mia?” She grumbled as I reached her.
I smiled. “I went to see if I could find a dress I’d like,” I responded.
“Did you? Your taste is out of this world. I don’t think you can find anything you’ll like here,” she chuckled.
I knew she would say that. “You can’t believe it, just like I can’t believe it – that I found what I liked. I found a lot of dresses I liked, and I even had a tough time trying to pick from them.”
“You should have just taken everything. It will take months to find what will suit your unique taste again,” she teased.
As we both pushed the basket toward the checkout counter, I took the other handle, laughing, “Alright, that’s enough teasing, Jasmine.” Her infectious smile was heartwarming. I was determined to preserve that smile, to protect her from anyone trying to rob her of her happiness. I was aware that I had to start with Noah – my suspicions about him couldn’t be dismissed. There was something about him that set off alarms whenever I was near him. The dangerous aura he seemed to radiate was something I couldn’t ignore.
Finally, we reached the counter, completed our payments, and left the mall with our shopping bags. They were laden and full of the items we had purchased.
The bags were weighty, so we took slow, deliberate steps as we made our way.
Stepping outside the mall, I spotted the same figure I had seen in the VIP section, this time more visibly. It was Noah.
Swiftly, I positioned myself in front of Jasmine to shield her from that sight. She would be utterly devastated if she saw Noah with another woman, and I couldn’t bear to watch her heartbreak.
“Why are you standing still, Mia?” Jasmine inquired, puzzled.
I smiled awkwardly, struggling to find the right words. I wasn’t sure how to explain why I was blocking her view. How could I tell her that I was trying to shield her from the sight of her boyfriend with another woman? How could I confess that I was standing in her path because her man was cheating on her? She was being betrayed!
“Mia! These bags are heavy. Why are you not moving?” She grumbled.
I laughed nervously, maintaining my position until I was certain they had moved away. Slowly, I stepped aside and chuckled, “I was just trying to avoid someone,” I murmured, hoping she would accept my excuse.
“Who is it? And why?” She pressed for more details.
I cleared my throat and hailed a cab, needing time to think of a response. As we loaded the bags into the trunk and got inside, I believed she might have forgotten about it.
However, she asked again, “Who were you hiding from, Mia? And why? Is everything okay? Do you need help with something?” she inquired.
Shaking my head, I held her hand. Gazing into her eyes, all I could recall was the image of Noah with another woman. The thought that something like that could happen to Jasmine shattered my heart.
She deserved better.
Jasmine had always been kind and considerate to me and everyone around her. I couldn’t fathom why Noah would treat her this way. To think that she even rejected her mates because of that punchbag made me even angrier.
As I had doubted, I had always felt that Noah never truly loved Jasmine and she was just a pawn in the game he was playing, but I had no evidence to back up my claims.
Hence, I couldn’t do anything or show Jasmine who Noah was. But I had just one mission – I had to do just one thing, and that was to show Jasmine who Noah was, to reveal his truth, and how he was just using her for his interests.
“This guy has been bothering me for months now. He wants a relationship with me, but I am not interested,” I lied.
She laughed, and I let out a loud sigh, relieved that she bought the lie. “I don’t know what to say, Mia, but you should try to consider him. If he has been persistent for months, then that means he is really in love with you,” she advised.
I sighed and nodded, “I will think about it. He might even be the partner I am looking for.”
She smiled, “Exactly, Mia. Just let me know if you need any help, okay?”
I nodded again, still holding her hand with a big smile on my face. I turned away from her, my mind drifting back to what I had seen a few minutes ago, and once again, I hoped it was just my imagination and Noah wasn’t cheating on Jasmine.
If that was the case, I would have to find concrete evidence. Otherwise, Jasmine wouldn’t believe that I was telling the truth; she would take me as a liar, and I didn’t want that. She was already so deeply in love with Noah that she wouldn’t believe whatever I said.
Minutes later, we arrived back at the school, and while I was still unloading the grocery bags from the car trunk, my phone rang.
I held the phone to my ear and propped it up with my shoulder while I continued to unload the items we had bought.
“Miss Mia,” I was forced to stop when I heard the voice of the investigator I had hired to run a background check on Noah and gather any evidence they could about him. “Please meet up with me at the Central Coffee shop in the next five minutes,” he added.
I had to put down what I was doing; it was something important, which was why he had to call me from a new number.
I turned to Jasmine, wondering what excuse I could give her.
“Jasmine, I… Uhmm… I forgot to get something from the mall. I’ll have to go back there.”
“Do you need me to come with you?” She asked.
I shook my head immediately, “No, you don’t have to. I’ll be fine on my own,” I smiled and signaled to the cab driver, “Can you please take me to the Central Coffee shop, I mean, the mall?”
I quickly hopped into the car and urged the driver to speed off before Jasmine changed her mind and insisted on following me.
I informed the driver about the exact place I was heading as we drove off, my heart racing with anticipation for what the investigator might have to tell me. I knew he might have obtained information about Noah, and I was eager to hear it.
Finally, after a few minutes of driving, I arrived at the coffee shop, paid the driver, and hurried inside. I scanned the crowd, searching for him until I spotted him from a distance. He discreetly signaled for me to sit at the table next to his.
I followed his instructions and waited, understanding that he was trying to keep our meeting hidden from view.
“Could you please pass me the menu?” He asked, his eyes indicating that I should hand him the menu when I looked puzzled about his request.
I handed it to him and waited, still eager to hear what news he had about Noah.
“Thank you!” He smiled and returned the menu to me, though I noticed it felt heavier this time. Slowly, I opened it to find a file tucked inside.
Curiosity piqued, I opened the file. The first thing I saw were pictures of Noah with different women. My heart seemed to skip a beat, and for a moment, I thought I must be mistaken.
I believed that what I had seen was just my imagination because I disliked Noah. But it appeared that my suspicions were correct all along – he had been cheating on Jasmine, not with just one woman, but with several.
I wondered how Jasmine would react when she learned about this. How broken and hurt she would be to discover that the one she loved so deeply never loved her back and had been with other women.
I pushed the photos aside and delved further into the file. What I discovered shocked me even more. Noah was not an orphan!
He had lied about being an orphan and had secured a scholarship to attend the Silvermoon pack. It was all a fabrication!
I couldn’t believe it. He was a rogue who had lost his father when he was young and had lived with a mysterious uncle whom no one knew about yet.
Yet, I couldn’t understand how he gets the wealth he throws around, what does he do for a living aside from being a student?
My sympathy for Jasmine transformed into anger and frustration. I had been right all along, my doubts about him had been warranted.
He had deceived Jasmine and betrayed her, and he would have to face the consequences. With this evidence to support my claims, I couldn’t wait to reveal to Jasmine who Noah truly was.Content © NôvelDrama.Org 2024.
I turned, only to realize that the investigator had already departed, leaving a note for me.
I picked it up, and it read, “I will contact you when there is new information.”
I sighed and exited the coffee shop, my mind swirling with unanswered questions. What could Noah’s motives be in this school and pack? What were his intentions? My thoughts consumed me until I sensed something unusual.
I turned and noticed someone darting behind a streetlight pole. My heart raced. Could someone be following me? It certainly seemed that way.
Deciding to take an alternate route, I found myself being pursued once again – not only on foot but also by a car. I quickened my pace, propelling my legs in a rapid rhythm, but the closer steps and the pursuing vehicle indicated they were catching up to me.
Fortunately, a speeding truck approached, and I took refuge beside it, running with all my might to match its speed and make my escape. I quickly hailed a cab and jumped inside.
Once I was a safe distance away, I leaned back in the seat and let out a deep sigh. However, one thing remained clear – the danger. I was still in danger.
