Chapter 76
Gina.
It’s been two weeks since the war, and somehow its effect still rubs off on everyone who was involved with it.
Even though our pack won the war, the pain of people that have lost someone in the battle has drenched every form of excitement in the heart of everyone.
Samuel, his mate, and his warriors have long returned to their pack, and even my parents have gone back to their home.
The palace Is uneasily hushed, and the only sound I seem to hear these days is the rapid panting of my heart.
The warriors who were killed during the war have been buried and monuments built in their honor.
The wounded warriors are being treated with utmost care and attention, but the scarred seem to lose hope in life and the importance of living in the present.
One such person is Denver, he has never been the same since after the war. The arrows that he was shot with were heavily laced with the wolf-bane plant, which happens to be highly poisonous to his wolf.
It took a lot of time before he was brought back to the pack, and that gave the poison time to spread all over his body.
It completely shut off his system and made him unconscious for over a week before he finally regained consciousness.
They are yet to get the wolf bane completely out of his system, which has made his scars and burns linger.
Our pack doctor said that he may never get back his wolf and that the only solution is hidden in our old mythology.
Although he wasn’t very detailed about the mythology, from his tune, I could tell that he feels that the solution, he was talking about is near impossible.
With his wolf dormant, His wounds and burns were gradually healing up at a human rate.
Denver has been hard on himself as he has stopped speaking with everyone, including me.
And God, it hurts me so much to see him in so much hidden pain that he has decided not to share with me.Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
His silence is slowly killing me, and I can only hope that he realizes that I truly care about him and want to be part of all that was happening to him.
I do my best in trying to assure him that everything would be fine and that he is not alone, but, it seems my words to him are nothing but a breeze.
The thought that he might no longer be interested in me, is something I don’t ever think I will get used to.
I love him, without him, it almost feels like I am completely lifeless, and I just want things to go back to the way they use to be.
It’s been very difficult for me to get a grasp of all that has happened and the fact that the ringmaster that orchestrated the attack on one of my mates was none other than my evil father.
Learning about his death seems to be the only comfort that I have gotten from this war. And I can’t help but wish for the worst after-death experience for him if there is truly one.
I was in my room getting dressed to go out like I have been doing for the past few days.
I had just finished sliding on my sandals when I walked to the mirror to stare at myself. I was wearing a knee-length blue dress with a pair of stud earrings.
I applied only a tiny bit of l*p-gloss as makeup and let my hair flow over my both shoulders.
I was going to see Denver in the hospital and attempt to break his silence. I need him to speak with me, I need him to share his pains and concerns.
Denver most times use the guise of wanting to be alone to shut everyone out. When his father suggested that he should come back home so the doctors and nurse continue his treatment for him. He had refused, saying that he required the time alone.
As soon as I walked out of my room, I saw Devon and Derrick walking in my direction.
They, too, had sustained minor injuries from the war, but they were fine within the first few days.
They have also not been left out of Denver’s sudden coldness and silent treatment, and they most times rely on me to be able to see him.
A weak smile lighted my face as I tried my best in trying to keep a happy face in their presence.
“You look astonishing,” they both complimented me.
“Thanks,” I said to them.
They were driving me down to the hospital, while also using that opportunity to check and see how Denver was faring.
We soon arrived at the hospital, and we were welcomed by a group of pack members who had come to see how he was doing.
Most of them respectively bowed their head as we walked past them. Since the pack seer made the announcement a week ago that I was going to be the next Luna, I have gotten nothing but love and support from my pack.
The alpha king has fixed a date for me to pick my mate, and it coincidentally is the same day that Lucia told me.
The seer of our pack has told me countless times about the need for me to try to pick the right mate, as the peace of our pack greatly depends on it.
We arrived in the Denver ward just in time to see a nurse attending to his wounds. As soon as he noticed my presence, he dismisses the nurse and quickly puts on his shirt to hide his scars.
His actions made my heart ache, but I tried not to let my pain show. His brother stopped at e door after seeing his none approachable demeanor.
“We will be waiting for you at the reception,” Derrick said to me.
Within seconds, I was left with him, there was this coldness between the both of us, and it was mostly him.
“How are you,” I questioned with a smile as I casually walked into the room.
He didn’t answer, but, instead, moved away from me and in silence to look outside his window.
My heart sank.
“I came to talk with you, keep you company,” I said as I pulled out the chair by his bedside to sit on.
He still didn’t say anything as he continually kept staring outside his window.
His silence was loud, I wished he could just say something, anything.
“Okay, since you would rather not speak with me, I will just be talking by myself while you listen,” I said, dropping the bag I had with me on the table.
I was going to start saying anything on my mind when his deep voice broke the silence.
“What do you want,” he questioned, still staring outside the window.
“To talk. I want to know how you are doing,” I said calmly to him.
Glad that he was finally saying something.
“I’m fine, as you can see, you can leave now,” he said dismissively to me.
“I would rather not leave, I came to spend some time with you,” I said, standing up from the chair I sat on and slowly going to where he was, but on seeing me he moved further away.
“I would rather not talk, please just leave,” he said, moving further away from me.
My heart broke, as I found myself gulping hard on my saliva, in an attempt to keep the cracks that come along unshed tears locked in.
“Did I do something, are you blaming me for what happened?” I questioned, my eyes suddenly finding the floor before me fascinating to stare at.
Or maybe that was just me doing my best not to look at him as he was dicing my heart with his words and actions.
“Gina please, stop making this harder than it already is, I just don’t want to be close to you,” he said, and his words made me subconsciously look at his eyes as tears rolled down my cheeks.
His words cut deep into my heart as the possible thought of him rejecting me, deepened my sorrow.
“Why? Why don’t you want me anymore? Are you mad at me? Do you blame me for the actions of the evil man I just found out is my father? If you are angry at me, why don’t you say it? I would truly understand your pains.
“Gina, stop it, you know all these things you are saying are not true,” he said in a slightly warmer tone.
The calmness he had used since I walked in.
“Then, what is it?” I inquired as unshed tears blurred out my vision.
“I don’t love you,” he blurted out at the top of his voice.
“What?” I questioned, surprised at his words and sudden outburst.
“I’m sorry, I have not always loved you, I was only using you, and seriously I am not sorry about it,” he said and at that moment I didn’t know where my palm hastily collided with his face.
I only realized what I had done right after I did that, and I quickly made an effort to apologize, but he abruptly cut me off.
“Are you done? Now get out,” he said in a spiky, icy voice that impeded my heart and made it bleed.
More tears spilled from my eyes as I stared at him to tell me he was joking.
But his cold stare told me that as of that moment, he was done speaking with me.
I slowly wiped off my tears and tried my best to be responsible for my emotions as I walked towards the door.
But the moment I opened the door to find my other two mates waiting for me, fresh tears brewed from my eyes.
