Forbidden Passion

Ruby gave up trying to persuade Nancy. She sat there like a puppet, surrounded by people applying makeup.

Two hours later, they had dressed her in a very revealing, glittering strapless mini dress, making her look like a nightclub hostess.

Ruby sneered. To sell her off, they had completely abandoned their dignity.

After everyone left, Nova walked in slowly and sat down next to Ruby. "Ruby, don't hate Mom and Dad. They are also at their wit's end."

Ruby scoffed.

Seeing her staring at him with mockery, Nova felt a bit uncomfortable. He said, "Don't worry. As long as the Adams family gets through this tough time, we will be your strongest support. Believe me, Edmund won't dare treat you badly."

"Do you believe that yourself?" Ruby mocked. "Nova, you were never good at managing the business. The Adams Group has been in your hands for only three years, and it's already on the brink of collapse. No matter how much money you get, it's just a bottomless pit."

Nova's pride was hurt by her words, and he suddenly became furious. "What do you know? If it weren't for the market regulation, how could I have invested all the funds?"

"That just means you're stupid," Ruby ridiculed, her eyes full of contempt.

Nova raised his hand in anger, and Ruby offered her face, deliberately provoking him. "Go ahead, hit me. Hit me in the face, you coward. You have no ability yourself, so you want to sell me to keep the company afloat. I despise you."

Nova gritted his teeth. "Ruby, don't push me. You'll still need my support in the future, and the Walker Family won't mistreat you because of it."

Ruby spat in Nova's face. "I've had enough of your face. Get out!"

No one had ever dared to spit in Nova's face before. He was furious but didn't want to mess up Ruby's makeup.

He gritted his teeth and swallowed the humiliation. Wiping the spit off his face, he said viciously, "Fine, you're tough. Let's see if you can be this tough in the Walker Family."

With that, he turned and walked out of the bedroom.

Ruby was utterly disgusted. When her parents kicked her out of the Adams family and she ended up on the streets, she had sought Nova's help.

What did Nova say back then?

Nova had hypocritically advised her, "Ruby, it's not that I'm blaming you. Mom and Dad are also doing it for your own good. You're an unmarried girl. If you get pregnant and your belly grows, how are we supposed to explain it to others? It would bring shame to the family. I advise you to get rid of the baby quickly. I'll find you a good husband, and you can have as many children as you want. Why insist on keeping this illegitimate child?"

Ruby's heart turned cold. Knowing Nova wouldn't help her, she never sought him out again.

As soon as Nova left, Ruby immediately stood up. This was her old room, hastily tidied up.

She stood up, walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, and opened a small pane to look outside. She was on the second floor. She couldn't sit and do nothing; she had to find a way down.

She turned back, looking at the curtains and bed sheets, and had a sudden idea.

She ran to the door, locked it from the inside, then pushed a nearby cabinet against it. She quickly ran back, took down the bed sheets and curtains, and tied them into a knot.

After securing one end of the curtain to a chair, she tried to climb out the window.

Suddenly, someone tried to open the door from outside. The handle moved, but the door didn't open. Nancy's voice came from outside, "Ruby, why did you lock the door? The Walker Family is here. Open the door."

Ruby, hanging outside the window, almost fell when she heard Nancy's voice. She quickly grabbed the bed sheet, cold sweat dripping.

She had to hurry.

Nancy pushed the door a few more times. "Ruby, don't think you can avoid meeting the guests by hiding. I'm telling you, whether you want to or not, you're getting married today!"

Ruby heard Nancy banging on the door, her heart racing. She slowly slid down the wall, Nancy's threats echoing in her ears.

"Ruby, don't forget, Peter is still in our hands. If you don't come out obediently, I'll make sure he ends up dead."

Ruby gritted her teeth. She knew that if she ran, they wouldn't spare Peter. Peter's grandmother, Cliff, had been so good to her. She couldn't repay kindness with ingratitude.

After a moment, she climbed back up and jumped back into the room through the window.

She quickly moved the chair and cabinet away from the door, then yanked it open and stepped aside. Nancy, who had been banging on the door, stumbled in.

Ruby could have reached out to help her, but remembering Nancy's cruelty, she didn't. She watched Nancy fall.

"My back," Nancy groaned, struggling to get up. Seeing Ruby standing there watching, she said angrily, "You saw me fall and didn't even help. What a waste of all the effort I put into raising you."

"You want to sell me, and you expect me to help you? Do you think I'm a masochist?" Ruby sneered.

She wasn't the type to repay evil with good. What Nancy had done to her over the years, and especially today, was enough for her to hate Nancy for a lifetime.

Nancy dusted herself off and saw the room in disarray, with bed sheets hanging by the window. She glared at Ruby. "You tried to run?"

Ruby sneered but didn't answer.

Nancy was furious, but looking at Ruby, who was their only hope for money, she had

to swallow her anger.

"The Walker Family is here. Come with me to meet them," Nancy said, grabbing Ruby's hand and pulling her towards the door.

Ruby yanked her hand back, coldly saying, "Don't touch me. I'll walk myself."

Nancy, feeling rejected, scowled and walked out first. "Don't try anything funny. If younoveldrama

don't marry into the Walker Family, Peter will pay the price."

Ruby didn't bother arguing. She followed Nancy downstairs, hearing a rough, unfamiliar male voice from below.

At the top of the stairs, she saw a fat man sitting on the sofa, talking to Charles.

Charles and Nova were fawning over Edmund like servants, treating him as an honored guest.

Feeling nauseated, Ruby pulled off her fake eyelashes and rubbed her face, smearing her makeup and lipstick.

Nancy, focused on Edmund, called out halfway down the stairs, "Edmund, Ruby is here. Ruby, come let your future husband see you."

Everyone turned to look at Ruby, who was standing behind Nancy. She smiled, revealing her teeth, but her smeared lipstick made her look like she had just eaten something messy.

Edmund, having heard Ruby was a beauty, was startled by her appearance.

"What the hell?"

Charles and Nova's faces changed. Nancy, seeing the once beautiful Ruby now looking

like a madwoman, was furious. Without thinking, she slapped Ruby.

"You bitch, you did this on purpose! I'll beat you to death!"
