Chapter 2251
Chapter 2251
The private room buzzed with the warmth of familiar faces, all comfortably nestled into their own circles of conversation.
Jonathan, Charlie, Morrison, and a few others were deep in chatter on one side, while Estelle and Magdalen were huddled with a few others on the opposite end.
Magdalen had been entertaining little Kya for a bit before turning to Emily, her curiosity piqued, "How many days till New Year's, Emily? Planning on spending it with the James family?"
Given everyone in the room knew Emily's situation, it was clear to all that returning to the Sullivan household was off the table for her!
Originally, Emily had planned on staying in the Royal Mansion over the holidays. She and Charlie weren't married, and while occasional weekend visits were one thing, spending a holiday like New Year's, which the James family, being quite the distinguished household, took seriously with numerous guests visiting, seemed out of place for her.
However, a conversation earlier that day with Mrs. James had left her reconsidering, though she hadn't made up her mind yet.
"I mean, staying at the Royal Mansion on my own isn't a big deal. I've got plenty of work to keep me busy. Who knows, I might even spend the holiday working," Emily mused, her tone nonchalant, perhaps a reflection of how the significance of holidays had dimmed for her after losing her family.
"Just listen to Charlie," Estelle advised, offering a sympathetic look.
Emily pursed her lips, nodding slightly in agreement.
Magdalen peeled a piece of chocolate, halving it between Kya and Estelle, before casually asking, "When are you heading back to C City?" "Tomorrow afternoon," Estelle replied.
Magdalen's eyes widened in mock despair, "I wish I could go with you!"
Estelle chuckled softly, "You've got to spend New Year's with the Langston family this year, especially since it's your first one since the wedding. Don't be rash!"
That reminder made Magdalen sigh, "I thought Gab and Sylvia had hit it off, got excited for nothing. Gab mentioned he's heading back to C City soon, didn't even seem to hesitate. That's Gab for you, heart of stone!"
Estelle's gaze deepened, hinting at underlying thoughts, "Maybe there's still a chance."
Magdalen's eyes sparkled with a new idea, "Sylvia doesn't have family to spend New Year's with, why don't you take her back to C City with you?" Estelle smiled gently, "Do you really think Sylvia would come with me?"
"You're right, there's no reason for her to," Magdalen muttered, then suddenly brightened, "But if there's no reason, we can create one!"
"What kind of reason?"
"Leave it to me. I promise, we'll get Sylvia to C City," Magdalen spoke with determination, "I refuse to believe that someone as beautiful as Sylvia can't win Gab over!"
Estelle wanted to let Magdalen know that her brother had been aware of Sylvia's beauty for far longer than just recently but didn't want to
dampen her spirits. Instead, she
played along, "Okay, getting Sylvia to C City is your mission. Making sure she stays for New Year's will be mine." Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
"Deal!"
Magdalen raised her hand for a high five, and Estelle met it, their moods lifted by the excitement of their shared mission.
Stepping out for a quick call, Carson bumped into Andrew upon returning.
Andrew greeted him with a knowing smile, "Just heard a funny story, wanna hear it?"
"What's the joke?" Carson inquired.
"Remember Freddy?" Andrew began, a hint of amusement in his voice.
Carson raised an eyebrow, "Yeah, played soccer with him once."
"That's the guy. So, he tried hitting on a girl and ended up getting kicked into a pool Came out just as his dad and some relatives saw the whole thing. Talk about embarrassing!" Andrew laughed, "He was so mortified he left the party early!"
The Greco and James families, both being prominent in their business dealings, were invited to mingle with the upper crust of J City. Freddy's public humiliation, especially in front of the Grecos, who, despite not being the top name in J City, had Freddy known for flaunting his wealth, was a spectacle Andrew and his peers wouldn't miss sharing, especially knowing Carson's disdain for Freddy.
A flicker of interest crossed Carson's eyes as he asked, "Who kicked him? Did anyone see?"
The story, ripe with the kind of social faux pas that fueled the elite's gossip, hinted at undercurrents worth exploring, especially in the intricate web of J City's social scene.
