Falling for my Ex-Fiancee’s Best friend

The accident

Demelza being hit by a car remained on the ground as people gathered around to see if she was alive. The driver who had hit her hastily alighted from the car with so much fear of having killed her accidentally. He rushed to her side and felt relieved to see her eyes slightly open but he feared he might have done some damage.

“No! Don’t move her, call 911,” A person standing on the scene cautioned him as moving her might cause damage. In a confused state, he picked out his phone from his pocket but it fell down a few times due to fear of what happened. He did not know who she was and he feared that he might have hurt her badly as she was not moving but just drifting in and out of consciousness. His heart started beating very fast from the imagination that he might go to jail if she pressed charges. But on the bright side, a little bit of relief washed over him as he remembered he was not driving fast and she was the one who had not looked before crossing the road.

His heart sank immediately he remembered his boss, he knew he was done for if this blew out of proportion. He tried to compose himself and his hand finally stabled as he dialed 911.

He explained the situation to them and also their location and they told him they will be there in a few minutes.

“You have to keep her awake, do not let her fall asleep, alright?” The respondent on the other side of the phone instructed him.

“Alright, I will try my best.” He replied and ended the call.

He kept trying to keep her awake until the ambulance got to them.

After a few minutes of waiting, the ambulance finally arrived.

The air immediately crackled with relief as onlookers began to disperse.

The nurses strapped Demelza to a stretcher as they wheeled her and lifted her up into the ambulance.

“Keep her awake, please. She keeps drifting in and out of consciousness.” The doctor instructed the nurse as she climbed into the back of the ambulance, checking for visible injuries and possibility of internal bleeding.

*You will have to come with us to the hospital” the person in charge told the driver who nodded.

The driver got into the back of the ambulance and sat on the side as they rode to the hospital.

After few minutes drive, they got to the hospital and he alighted, following the nurses and doctor into the hospital as they wheeled Demelza in.

Demelza was immediately placed on oxygen to aid her breathing and also some necessary injections.

While all that was going on, the driver kept pacing back and forth in panic and fear. While he thought about Demelza being okay, he also thought about how he might possibly lose his job. While pacing, he unconsciously kept chewing his fingernails in anxiety.

“She is asking to see you,” a soft female voice said out loud to the driver which startled him as he was lost in thoughts.

His eyebrows furrowed as he wondered why she wanted to see him. He breathed in and prepared his mind for whatever it may be.

“Thank you.” He said, smiling at the the nurse who had delivered the information to him.

He walked into the room slowly and then shut the door quietly behind him.

“Good evening, miss,” He greeted Demelza who was looking at the other side of the room.

Demelza turned slowly and her eyes widened as she recognized him. As much as she felt sorry for him, her heart leapt with joy. Her accident seemed like an answered prayer.

“I’m really sorry, miss. I swear I did not see you coming,” the driver heartily apologized to Demelza.

Demelza’s thoughts drifted as she did not realize she was smiling which got the driver scared.

“Everything’s fine but you are about to become a victim of circumstance,” Demelza told him with a facial expression he did not understand.

“I’m sorry, ma’am, I do not understand what you mean.” The apologies to Demelza hoping she will help him understand.

“You will when the time comes. But I have forgiven you. My business is not with you,” Demelza told him.

“Ma’am, please.” The driver begged again.

“You have nothing to worry about. You can go home,” Demelza urged him, already feeling annoyed but she did not have the heart to shout at him. What got to her the most was that he was innocent in all these.

The driver, not wanting to provoke her, made his way out of the room and headed home in dejection to wait for whatever came.

Demelza refused to stay at the hospital so she insisted on being discharged from the hospital. Please check at N/ôvel(D)rama.Org.

Immediately she left the hospital, she made her way to the hospital where her mother was admitted to go check on her.

Since she could not go to Hampton like she wanted to, she decided to go see her step mum and spend the night there and then go see Nathan the following day.

Realizing she looked like shit, she decided to stop by the house first to take her bath and change her clothes because she looked like a mess. She didn’t want to risk her mother asking her questions she wouldn’t wanna answer.

Upon getting to the house, she hastily took a hot bath and put on very big joggers and a big hoodie with a face cap. Stepping out of the house, she goes back to pick her shades because light in her eyes is giving her a headache. she is yet to recover from the accident but still wouldn’t let her body rest.

In ten minutes, she got to the hospital and bought some snacks from the snack shop, hoping her stepmum would be awake and strong enough to eat something.

After buying the snacks she needed to buy, she made her way to her stepmum’s room trying to feel optimistic.

Her face brightens up with so much happiness as she saw her step mum smiling and conversing with the doctor.

She opened the door with a smile and her stepmom smiled too in delight at seeing her but her stepmom’s face dropped immediately when she saw the scars on Demelza’s face.
