Encounter

Aleia opened her eyes from a deep sleep that morning because of that unfamiliar sound. The sound was like buzzing in her ears. It was her husband snoring beside her. She grabbed her phone from the side table.

She was taken aback when she saw that it was already seven in the morning. Zach would be late for work. She stood and stormed away from the room to go to the kitchen and stopped. This is just a marriage of convenience so why would she worry about him. But later on, she still did her duties as a wife.

She scanned all the cabinets to look for something to cook. Fortunately, the kitchen has a lot of cooking materials and equipment. Yes, her husband hates her but it is her responsibility to take good care of him.

She toasted a few slices of bread and made an omelet. She also made two cups of brewed coffee for the two of them. But she paused midway. She did not know about Zach’s preference for coffee. Whether he would want it with sugar or not. Worst, she had no courage to ask him after what happened last night.

“Add a single pinch of sugar.”

Aleia froze for a while. She did not know that he was watching but later on she did what he said. She put a single pinch of sugar into his coffee.

But when she turned to bring it to him, she saw him leave the kitchen.

“Zach, you are not going to eat?” she asked sadly. He just waved his hand and did not bother to look at her.

“I’m not hungry. Just eat all that.” Then Zach vanished like smoke.

She bit her lip while looking at the foods she prepared. How can she eat all of that? She sat on her chair and tried to eat. Alone. Her husband left her on their first day as a married couple.

She was sipping the coffee she made when her cellphone which was on top of the fridge rang.

“Chelou?” she said.

“Lei, how was your first night? Did you have blast?” Her crazy laugh followed after that it almost broke her eardrum.

Blast? Yeah! A blast of tears and arguments.

She sighed.” What do you expect? He doesn’t love me at all. He just wants to take revenge.”

“Lei, I’m warning you. Don’t let him treat you like trash just because you love him. So what are you doing now?” Chelou asked again.

She looked at the table she set sadly and smiled. “Eating breakfast… alone.” Her voice almost cracked.

She was living alone for quite a long time. She thought that when she would get married, she would have someone for company, especially during a meal.

“Goodness! Get out of that house and come with me. You gotta file a divorce now.”

She did not know but she burst out laughing. Divorce. ” )Are you crazy? I can’t do that. It is still early to do that, Chelou. I know he has feelings for me. He will learn to forgive me as time goes by?”

“Aish! I don’t get you, sweetie. I asked for a leave today. I’m meeting the guys, why don’t you come with me. I’m sure they will be happy to see you.”

Her face lightened, the guys that Chelou mentioned are their friends who share the same interest with them. For short, they are the racing team that she belonged to a few years ago before she left for the province. She used to be a car and motorcycle racer that’s why her dad gave Ryder as a gift.

“But I haven’t raced for a while and I left Ryder on the island,” she said.

“It is okay. I can let you borrow mine in the meantime. Let us go out and have fun. Yeah, girl.”

“Okay. I’ll be there.”

After that call, Ale cleaned the table and washed the utensils. She also put the leftover in the fridge. It is such a waste to just throw some food. Then, she went back to their room.

She saw Matthew comes out of the bathroom with just a towel in the lower part, leaving the upper- topless. Her heart skipped a bit. He is devilishly handsome and gorgeous.

Matthew picked another towel and dried his hair and Aleia tried to be busy fixing anything just to divert her attention.

“Are you going to work today?” She could feel the tension in the room.

“Mmm,” he answered. Matthew was walking towards her. Her heart is beating erratically while mesmerized by the godly beauty in front of her. She swallowed hard and tried to control her emotions.

Matthew was just an inch away. She could even smell her manly scent. He was looking at her, then he smiled. She waited for what was next to come. Matthew leaned closer to her nape.

“Wife, you are blocking the closet. Please move a little. Is that okay?” he whispered and then Aleia felt that a glass of water was poured onto her. She felt like she woke up from a dream.

She moved immediately while Matthew was grinning from ear to ear as if he won the lottery. She immediately looked away to hide the embarrassment.

“Just tell me if you want me, wife, cause I am all yours.”

She turned back to see him and then looked away when she saw Matthew remove the towel. She went outside but before she opened the door, she heard Matthew mutter something.

“You don’t need to daydream like that, wife, I am hundred percent real,” he said with a soft laugh.

Sh*t! Aleia cursed after she closed the door. She banged the door softly. Her husband was teasing him. She felt her cheeks become hot. She was blushing.

There’s no way that she would allow to lose in this game. She will play fairly until he would confess his feelings to her.

“Wife, are you there? I need to go.”

Aleia moved so that Matthew could open the door. He was in his office attire already when he came out. She pretended to be unaffected by everything and tried to fix his tie. Her husband was looking at her intensely. So she got that chance to kiss him softly on his lips.

Loneliness struck Aleia again after her husband left to work. Usual couples would have spent a few days together after the wedding. Maybe in a faraway place to have quality time together. But here she comes, alone on the first day after she became a wife to her dream guy.

A few hours after Matthew left, she also left to meet Chelou and their old buddies. Well, it is good that they signed an agreement last night. At least, she can still do whatever she wants. She could not stand to be in the house alone with nothing to do. She’ll be insane before she knew it.

She sent Chelou a message that she was coming.
