Chapter 84
Normally, a crew ship of this scale wouldn't take on such a job. The only reason the crew agreed to pick them up this time was the generous payment.
After boarding, Natasha was shown to her room.
The ship had 12 full floors and was far more luxuriously furnished than expected.
"It'll make a round near Cendale before sailing southwest," Zachary said, striking up a conversation with Natasha as they stood together on the deck.
Trailing behind them, Julian couldn't help but feel happy too. After all, if his boss was in a good mood, so was he.
"Can you two stop haunting us like ghosts?" Xavier couldn't hold back his
sarcasm.
Things got so tense that they nearly ended up fighting.
Natasha said, "Mr. Anderson, there's something I'd like to talk to you about. It's regarding the project. Would you be open to letting my friend join? With him on board, I can get things done a lot faster."
Her request was a little bold, but Quentin wasn't the type to be overly rigid or by- the-book.
"Certainly. A good leader knows how to make the most of their people," Quentin replied. "Once the project is officially handed over to you, how you handle it will be entirely up to you."
He had discussed a lot with Yancy, which had deepened his trust in Natasha.
Natasha was overjoyed. "You can count on me. As long as it's within my ability, I'll give it everything I've got."
The moment she received the good news, she rushed off to share it with Xavier.
Evening eventually fell, and the sun had long sunk into the western sky.
Natasha came running down the deck's stairway, full of excitement. Just as she turned a corner in the hallway, a figure suddenly appeared before her and blocked her way.
Startled, she let out a scream and took several steps back.
Across the grand hall, bodies wrapped tightly like cocoons dangled from above, descending one after another before the stunned crowd.
"Are you alright?" Zachary stepped in front of her, shielding her from the gruesome sight.
"I'm alright. I think I accidentally twisted my ankle just now," she replied.
No matter how fearless Natasha usually was, it was impossible to be unfazed by corpses dropping out of nowhere.
Zachary helped her to a chair nearby.
The ship's security team responded immediately and secured the area. The entire ballroom was soon locked down.
It had been a dance party, and Natasha and Zachary had only stumbled in by accident. They never imagined they'd witness something like that.
A total of 12 bodies were discovered in various corners of the venue, and all of them had died three days prior. There appeared to be no connection among the victims, leaving the case with no clear direction for further investigation.noveldrama
The police had no choice but to resort to the most basic method-tracking down anyone who might have known the victims, since someone must have noticed their presence on board. The investigation would have to begin with their social ties, which were likely a key factor behind their deaths.
"We've sorted out urgent issues, but I don't think the ship will be cleared to dock anytime soon. The murderer is definitely still aboard," one officer said.
After all, staging something on that scale inside such a large venue couldn't have been a one-person job.
As Natasha limped out of the hall, supporting herself against the wall, she was suddenly lifted into the air.
"Hey! What are you doing?" she cried out.
Zachary smiled. "You're injured. I'll carry you back."
"Put me down! I can walk on my own!" she protested.
She was hurt, but she still could walk on her own.
What do you think?
